”We think it’s super here”
Susanna, aged 40, and Andreas
Rafwelsäter, 37, moved from Sollentuna
to Västra Ämtervik in Sunne about a
year ago, with their children Tilda,7,
Nils, 5, and Erik, one and a half years
old.
”Our quality of life has improved
and we have more money at the end
of the month. Tilda goes to a riding
school, which we would not have been
able to afford in Sollentuna. And we
have more time,” said Susanna.
She is very pleased that they decided
to move to Västra Ämtervik. But it was
a big decision.
”I grew up in Sollentuna and I’m used
to living in a big city. But as far back as
when Tilda was born we talked about
moving to Värmland when she became
old enough to start school. About a
year ago we decided that it was time to
make the move.”
The connection to Värmland lies
with Andreas who grew up in Torsby,
35 kilometres north of Sunne. He lived
in Uppsala for 15 years and then in
Sollentuna. He wanted to go back to
Värmland. He looked for work and
found a job with the Swedish Social
Insurance Agency in Kil, south of
Västra Ämtervik.
”After that we found our house via
the Internet. Andreas went past it a few
times and then we went and looked at
it together. I fell in love with it straight
away. It’s much bigger than the terraced
house in Sollentuna, which we have
now sold.”
At first they had intended to live
in the urban area of Sunne. But the
house with a lakeside view in Västra
Ämtervik was the deciding factor.
”The house is in the centre of the
village, near the railway station. It is
nice with the train. There is a lot of

movement, so it feels like a central
location anyway. At first I missed not
being able to go and look in the shops,
as I used to do that a lot in Sollentuna.
But I have got used to planning
instead.”
Susanna is on parental leave, but
has started as a supply teacher at three
preschools. She is a children’s nurse
and would like to train to become a
preschool teacher.
”The fact that I was on parental leave
made it easier to decide to move.”
The family takes most of her time at
present. In her spare time, Susanna sings
in the church choir in Västra Ämtervik.
For the children there are more or less
all the activities they can think of. In
Västra Ämtervik in particular, many
children play volleyball and football.
”Sunne is a positive municipality
with a lot happening. We felt welcome
right from the start. The municipality
helped a lot with child care. Everything
went very smoothly.”
There are far fewer children in
the preschool than they were used to
before.
”It’s an enormous difference!
Everything is calm here in a completely

The turf-cutting ceremony for the new
preschool, Hassebol, was held on 1
April. It is being built to last a long time,
as an energy-efficient passive building.
It is expected to be ready for use in the
spring of 2014. There will be room
for 72 children in the new preschool
and some of them were present at the
inauguration ceremony. The number
of preschool places in Sunne will be
increased by 46.

In Sunne, various organisers are
helped in arranging enjoyable activities
for the passengers. The latest theme
was “Children and the Family”. Hajen
Sune from the Vattenlandet water park
was waiting on the platform at Sunne
railway station and greeted everyone
with jolly dance steps. There was face
painting on the train and later in the
library as well. Other activities offered
were pony riding, matinée and a
theatrical performance by students from
the Broby Grafiska College of Cross
Media’s Ethical Course. Apart from all
this, those using the Sunne Train devote
their attention to shopping.
