recovery,care,rehabilitationandre-homingofWeimaranersinneedacrosstheGreatLakes
region.NooneindividualisGreatLakesWeimaranerRescue...severalindividualscametogether
toformacollectiveandcollaborativeorganizationwithoursolepurposebeingtoassist
Weimaranersinneed.
DogsthatarereceivedintoGLWR’sprogramcomefromavarietyofbackgroundsand
situations.Somearerecoveriesfromvariousshelterswhomayhavearrivedasastraynot
reclaimedbytheirownerortheanimalmayhavebeensurrenderedtothefacilitybytheir
owner.Afewofthedogswereceiveintoourrescueprogramcomefromabusivesituations,
butthatisnotthenorm.Theytypicallycomefromlovingfamiliesthatcansimplynolonger
keepthemduetoamove,divorce,deathinthefamily,etc….Otherscomefromfamiliesthat
justdidn’tknowwhattheyweregettingintowhentheyboughtaWeimaranerpuppy!!
Weimaranersarenotthetypeofdogthatcanbeexpectedtokeepthemselvesentertained.
Theyneedbothphysicalandmentalstimulationtobehappy,healthyandcontent.Theyhave
ahigherthanaverageneedforexercisethanotherbreedsandarenotthetypeofdogthatwill
liearoundandwaitfor“theirturn”.Theyexpecttobepartofthefamilyand,iflefttotheirown
meanswithoutconstructiveoutlets,couldbecomedestructive.Theylovetobewith“their

Ourfosterapplicationprocessconsistsofanfosterapplication,referencechecksandahome
visit.Onceyoufilloutandreturntheattachedapplicationandyourreferenceshavebeen
checkedyouwillbecontactedforaphoneinterviewandthenavolunteerwillsetupamutually
agreeabletimetoconductyourhomevisit,whetheritbephysical,digitalorSkype.Ifyouare
approved,wewillsendyouafosterhomeinformationpacket.
