We will provide the food, activities, and tents so you'll just need to bring a sleeping bag and your bathing suit! If you're nostalgic for the days of family camping trips, rowboat rentals, Saturday-night movies and organized hiking excursions, you will LOVE this retreat. Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park is a delight for outdoor enthusiasts. This 14,086 acre park, covering land in Putnam and Dutchess counties, boasts hiking trails, a beautiful beach, picnic areas, and a campground. The scenic campground, formed along the park's natural rock ridges, provides alcoves of privacy and tranquility for campers. Restroom and shower facilities are centrally located to all tent sites. Movies are shown on Saturday evenings for the enjoyment of all campers. I loved the sacred space that was created during the full moon ceremony by the lake led by the awesome Autumn. The sharing of stories around the campfire, the silent meditative walk to the beach followed by yoga inspired me to open up and think deeply about my present and future as well as understand the past. The care and attention throughout the weekend made all of us feel so cared for and spoiled. It has enriched by life in the most wonderful ways and has helped me see my path forward with more clarity. Thank you for taking such good care of us.’ This experience is something everyone should do at least once in their life if not more than once. We get so bogged down in our everyday lives that we start to lose touch with what makes us happy. Anne-Margaret was an amazing group leader and an excellent guide in helping us get in touch with ourselves and Autumn was very insightful. I would encourage any friend to join in on one of these retreats and am excited to leave with new friends from this experience who live just a few blocks away from me. We hope to meet up and continue to hold on to the energy from this retreat! I had the best time ever at the camping yoga retreat!!! It was so nice to unplug and connect with not only nature, but with an inspiring group of women. I feel like the weekend gave me a deeper sense of self and a feeling of empowerment. What is so cool is that the connections and friendships will continue after the weekend. It was a nice balance of activities and alone time. The food was excellent and exceeded my expectations. Thank you! Loved everything! AnneMargaret was so well-prepared. We had enough of everything: food, fun, relaxation time to contemplate. The tents were large and comfortable and the chairs for sitting around the fire were perfect! The meditation, yoga, and spiritual talks, combined with the beauty of nature, were a wonderful respite away from hectic NYC. The weekend was super-relaxing and was just what I needed! I loved the themes of embracing a sense of adventure and returning to the ‘real world’ with a bolder and refreshed perspective. 3 May 2015 22-56 31st Street (Ditmars/23rd Avenue) Astoria, New York 11105 Studio: (718) 728—0110 Newsletter Summer 200-Hr Chakra YogaTM Teacher Training Intensive BEGINS 7/20! $2500—$500 deposit to register. $300 OFF if you register by 5/23! Registered with the Yoga Alliance, this certification is excitingly original in its approach. This training is designed to cultivate teachers who are able to express their unique spirit, strengths, and passions through yoga. Participants will learn the fundamentals of teaching yoga while journeying through a personal discovery of their unique style. Rooted in the wisdom of the chakras and the vast insight of the greatest spiritual masters, this training will provide a palette of several yogic styles, philosophies, and approaches for teaching students how to connect with their body, mind, and spirit. Participants will leave complete with a toolbox full of inspiration and practical approaches to creating classes that inspire and truly make a difference for others. Informational Meetings: Monday, 5/11 @ 7:30pm, Wed, 5/20 @ 3:30pm, Sunday, 5/31 @ 6:30pm Come have all your questions answered. Summer TT Schedule: M-F from 9am—6pm (with 1 hour for lunch) Some classes and workshops in the evenings and on weekends. Fall 12-Weekend Teacher Training begins September 18th! A FEW THINGS THAT SET US ASIDE FROM OTHER TRAININGS: Class is capped at 10 participants Because of this, you receive a great deal of personal attention and multiple opportunities to teach before you graduate. In most trainings, your teaching experience during the training may be limited to teaching your final class which many times is an hour-long class shared with one or two other people- and that is it. In our training, you teach a full-length 90-min class, a 20-min sequence, a 10-minute sequence, you lead a 15 -min meditation, a 10-min meditation, and lead sun salutations the very first weekend after you learn how to teach them. It is critical to flex the muscle of getting in front of people while you are training. This is invaluable experience to get you comfortable with this sometimes terrifying process, rather than waiting until you are in front of a paying student or a studio owner teaching an audition class. Hands-on adjustment experience Many trainings leave out hands-on adjustments or only devote an absolute minimum when it comes to learning this aspect of being a quality teacher. Our training offers very specific hands-on adjustments that you try on your fellow students as well as 9 hours of practice assisting in real classes at our studio. Cultivating the unique teacher within Our teacher training is designed to lead the students through a journey of self-discovery. Through a great deal of journaling meditations, each student discovers the unique gifts that they have to offer. Teachers in training learn how to connect with that channel of Divine guidance and how to trust their own intuition when getting in front of a room. In doing this, the teacher is truly teaching from the heart rather than simply regurgitating a sequence of postures. As a result, students truly feel the healing that comes from a teacher who 'sees' them and sincerely desires to be of service. NOTE FROM OWNER, ANNE-MARGARET... Our next teacher training begins July 20th and is a four-week intensive training. Each week we meet Monday through Friday from 9am until 6pm. Although of course we do not encourage your missing any of the training, we are not unrealistic. Many students have out of town weddings or last minute emergencies that arise. It is best you let me know of any conflicts ASAP so, if possible, I can work with you to minimize what you will miss. If you cannot attend a specific day, you will be given makeup work or will need to attend a future workshop if the hours missed cannot be made up through independent study. As soon as you register you can begin fulfilling/taking/observing your class requirements to get as much out of the way before the training begins. All of your class requirements are covered in your tuition. Please note that we are incredibly flexible with payment plans and will do our best to work with you. Your tuition also includes unlimited classes once the training begins. Our program is recognized by the Yoga Alliance and our curriculum is in accordance with their standards. Please feel free to contact me with any more questions. Something to keep in mind is that we do limit each class to 10 participants. We will have informational meetings in May & June to provide more details about the training and to answer any questions. Please be sure to attend one! Let me know how else I can support you. The yogic teaching of ‘Aparigraha’ (non-hoarding), challenges us to look at the ways we ‘grasp’ in our lives. Where and what do you ‘hoard’? For some, it may be possessions, food, or drink. For others, it may be negative thoughts, judgements, or someone else’s time. Anytime we find ourselves ‘grasping,’ we also find where in our lives we are cut off from experiencing wholeness and freedom. Aparigraha is a fear within that stems from feelings of unworthiness. Where in your life – on and off your mat – could you practice Aparigraha? How would it feel to have more freedom in your body, mind, self-expression, work, and relationships? This month, work with a mantra that makes you feel whole and present to life’s abundance. Ex. ‘I have everything I need,’ practicing this shift in perception harvests a greater sense of freedom and may lead to a more authentic connection to yourself and others. Quote of the Month: “What you own, owns you.” -Unknown BOOK OF THE MONTH: Living Wabi Sabi The True Beauty of Your LIfe by Taro Gold A blend of Eastern wisdom, feng shui, and the movement toward simplicity, Wabi Sabi is a Japanese expression meaning "wisdom in natural simplicity." The Giving Tree is expanding this intention becoming a center of global awareness and community activism providing leadership, vision and opportunities for action. Astoria is the most culturally diverse neighborhood in the world and therefore a microcosm of our global community. Too often, we see things going on in our world (genocide, devastation, corruption in government) and feel powerless. Sometimes all we can think about is balancing making a living and/or pursuing a dream. These injustices fade into the background and we can't conceive of where to start, many times feeling alone in our plight with little energy left to give. Fighting each other, claiming 'sides' through political parties, and being manipulated by our TVs and corrupt, governmental institutions is a thing of the past. Power is moving back in the hands of the people if we work together. Come hear from local leaders, watch clips from informative documentaries and discuss. If you feel called to make a difference or have ideas for these efforts, please attend! This month’s featured food is the delectable avocado. What does May have to do with avocados? Perhaps you’ll soon be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with this healthy produce. Here’s a breakdown: What are avocados? Despite their savory taste, avocados are not a vegetable. Botanically, they fall into the fruit category. To be more specific, avocados are single-seeded berries. Where are avocados grown in the United States? The majority of avocado production occurs in California. However, Florida and Hawaii also grow the fruit. Due to the unfortunate drought in California, you may soon see the price of avocados rise. What are the varieties? Avocados fall into three broad categories: Mexican, Guatemalan, and West Indian. One of the most popular varieties, Hass, a California avocado, is actually a Mexican Guatemalan hybrid. Hass are known for their buttery taste and are the avocado of choice for guacamole. Florida avocados, a lower fat option, are larger, with bright green skin and are often Guatemalan West Indian hybrids. ADRIANNE What are the nutritional benefits? Avocados are a healthy source of monounsaturated fat and provide nearly 20 essential nutrients. These include fiber, potassium, vitamin E, B vitamins, and folic acid. Due to their fat and fiber content, avocados can aid in satiety. The average avocado contains about 320 calories, so be mindful of portion size. What di I di with avocados? Lots of things! Avocados can be easily incorporated into a variety of dishes. Try substituting the mayonnaise in tuna or chicken salad with mashed avocado. Incorporate the fruit into smoothies. Make a quick dip by combining avocado with shelled edamame, lemon juice, salt, pepper and other spices. Prepare avocado toast at home—simply top good quality, toasted bread with avocado, flavored oil, salt and pepper. Any other tips? Allergic to latex? You may also be allergic to avocados. Be sure to talk to your health care practitioner if you are concerned. Choose avocados that yield slightly to pressure. To speed up the ripening process, place avocados in a paper bag. Finally we have a breath of Spring! The Sun is in Taurus, the winter is behind us and the future is ahead! This Full Moon in Scorpio happens on Sunday, May 3. I do believe that this Scorpio Full Moon will grant us whispered wishes, magical moments and relevant revelations. Due to it’s square to Jupiter in Leo, we may receive too much of a good thing, but as Leo Sun Mae West said “too much of a good thing is wonderful”. I’m inclined to agree, since we have had to slog through so many tough times, personally and globally. I do believe we all deserve a big dose of joy. AUTUMN This Full Moon in Scorpio creates a Fixed T Square; that’s when 2 planets are in opposition and another planet is square the opposition. This creates action, movement, and things to be solved and discussed. We already have the Sun in fixed sign Taurus, and Jupiter in Fixed sign Leo. In Astrology, the quality of Fixed indicates a steadfast energy, efficiency and reliability. When dealing with fixed signs, things are etched in stone, written in indelible ink and written in blood. No half measures with fixed signs… so oftentimes they take their time when making decision or choice. In dealing with fixed sign energy, we will feel the focus on our sense of value, worth and place in the world. The missing aspect to the 4th and final fixed sign, Aquarius, is how we manage this energy. Aquarius deals with groups, community, humanity and touching upon the far future. This Full Moon in Scorpio makes me think of the Priestess card in Tarot; a sense of wild abandon coupled with a great respect and knowledge about power. HER power. Using the powerful, creative darkness that sits and stirs deep inside mating with the sensual, earthy knowledge about the world we live in. After all… this Moon tells us, we are not of the world… we just live in it. This Full Moon gives us carte blanc to really REVEL in our sensual powers, the ones that we try our best to keep a tight rein on because of who we might scare. Ruthlessly cut away any dead weight so you can travel lighter. This Full Moon nudges us to GO BIG, release the Titan inside, and to own all our magical, mysterious power. If we bump into another’s stubbornness, or hit roadblocks in the form of other people’s search for self worth and power, we will find the answers in the missing leg of the T-Square: Aquarius. As long as we are patient, understanding and knowing that we are all fighting our own battles and need compassion, we can help others tap into their inner Priestess, and not relinquish a drop of our own inner Priestess energy. What does your inner Priestess look like? Remember there is magic everywhere… BLESSED BE, Autumn Anne-Margaret in Priestess Pose. 19
