The 1,000 Singles and 1,300 Team players were delighted to have Dr.Cue Tom Rossman join Dave “The Ginger Wizard” Pearson for the four day weekend. TV Crews and local print media followed the entire event, starting with the “Suds & Spuds” Mixer Thursday night. Dave Courington, Valley’s Sales Director, was impressed, stating, “This is the best local media coverage for a pool event I have ever seen”. Dr. Cue and the Ginger Wizard continually one-upped each other, thrilling all who came to see their show. Rossman and Pearson make an unbeatable entertainment team and PA-VNEA was lucky to have these two professional performers. We hope they can schedule PA-VNEA States again. T echnology was another star performer for our 31st year. Using specialty software, players were texted their match when they were ready to play. Fifteen flat screen TV’s displayed digital charts complete with live streaming on-line charts for smart phone monitoring. 180 tables in the Erie Bayfront Convention Center’s 45,000 square foot center allowed for “Vegas Style” seating at every match, with risers for spectator viewing of finals, including the Junior singles event. B reaking the monopoly of the western border of Pennsylvania’s possession of the “A” team’s traveling trophy, Ray Bird’s Williamsport Eagles’ team took the title of best in the state to the center of Pennsylvania for the first time in 31 years. Ray Bird has brought a team to PA-VNEA States for 15 years; this was their year to take home the hardware. Congratulations to the Williamsport Eagles! In the Open Master Singles, Erie’s own John Barbale took the Championship. Johnny B has 25 years competing at PA-VNEA States and has played on numerous championship teams. This year the crafty veteran could not be denied his throne. ost Tournament Director, Ed Borgia of Warner H Coin, praised his staff and volunteer committee for running a “near perfect” tournament and the Erie Bayfront Convention Center’s team for welcoming the PA-VNEA States again. We all salute the players of Pennsylvania for their excellent sportsmanship throughout the entire weekend. Erie, Pennsylvania / by Dave Warner Team Results were as follows...
