The boys' tennis team defeated Fishers 3-2 Thursday night to win the sectional championship! As
expected, the match came down to the wire as the Royals won in dramatic fashion on a chilly, windy
evening. Mark Skelton had a heroic performance at #3 singles, winning the deciding match for the
Royals in a 3rd-set tiebreaker! Mark has been battling an elbow injury and took the last week off to rest
it, so for him to step up tonight, fight through the pain, and come through in this pressure situation was
huge! Mark won the match 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4). This is the second-straight year that the HSE/Fishers
sectional match has come down to a 3rd-set tiebreaker. Crazy! The other wins came from Josh DeFonce
and Nick Krauter at #1 doubles, winning 6-1, 7-6 (6) and Mark Slaninka and Andrew Myers at #2
doubles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Both doubles teams played very well tonight. #1 doubles came out and
played a great first set, but then they had a little trouble closing out the match. They made the 2nd set
interesting, but they stepped up when they needed to. Mark and Andrew played another dominant
match, winning another match without dropping a single game. These guys have just been so steady all
year. At #1 singles, Alec Gretencord had two close sets and played tough, but lost 5-7, 5-7. At #2
singles, Marcus Luke lost 1-6, 1-6. This is the 5th-straight sectional for the boys' tennis team. They will
begin regional play Tuesday at North Central and will play the winner of the Mt. Vernon sectional. Great
match, guys! Way to step up!! #FaceEverythingAndRise #SectionalChamps #5-Peat
