When planning committee members paused during the event and looked around, they couldn’t believe how many people attended. Every vendor was busy, kids’ faces were painted, people engaged with Zumba, Jazzercise, Yoga; parents marveled watching their kids perform with the Prodigy program and kids of all ages/stages received a new back pack filled with school supplies! The back pack giveaway was a significant component and came to fruition as a result of a very generous donation from Simpson Environmental and a partnership with Somebody Cares Pasco. We truly appreciate these partners! Our event by the numbers: One Blood Mobile, 2 rescue vehicle demonstrations, 7 deputies, 25 volunteers, 10 partners planned event, 20 community partners set up resource tables, 30 immunization checks with 5 kids receiving shots; 73 dental screenings were conducted; 400 bags of veggies given out; 450 back packs stuffed for distribution; and, over 500 attendees enjoyed the activities throughout the event! The day went very quickly and many small, yet meaningful moments made the event a true success. We loved watching the deputies checked the Passport to Health cards and hand out back packs. They had a real connection with the families. One little boy was so surprised and excited to find supplies in his new backpack! The firemen were incredibly kind and easy-going on a very hot day. This event was very large and had many moving parts. We experienced staff and volunteers alike working hard with the muggy weather, lay-out changes, and the other thousand tiny issues that needed attention to run smoothly. It was truly “all hands on deck.” No problem was too big or too small, and we always found an answer with a smile. This event happened because many of our families need support to get kids ready for school and because our community care deeply about kids and families. Every event offers an opportunity to learn for the next event. Before we know it, the holidays will be over and planning begins for next year! Pasco County Schools Honors Veterans By Kurt S. Browning Last year, Veterans Day was not observed as a day off for Pasco students. Instead, Pasco County Schools promoted a wide array of school-based community events, beginning with our Veterans Day Ceremony at the Center for the Arts at Wesley Chapel, and ending with the “Vote in Honor of a Veteran” program at our high schools. The celebration was coordinated with Brian Corley, Pasco County Supervisor of Elections, and featured veteran and well-known local businessman Tom Castriota as keynote speaker. Believe it or not, many considered this move “controversial.” For many years, our school district chose to honor our veterans by observing Veterans Day as a non-attendance day so students could celebrate with their families and community. However, we were saddened to learn that many students did not use this time to attend Veterans Day events. It was just another day off of school. Since I could not bring the students to the community events, our school district brought the events to them. Pasco County has a rich history of military service, and I believe that hosting district-wide Veterans Day events is a far better way to honor our veterans than giving our students another day off school. This year’s Veterans Day Ceremony occurs on Wednesday, November 11, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge. Congressman Gus Bilirakis will serve as our keynote speaker, and we will continue our partnership with Supervisor of Elections Brian Corley. As part of the Veterans Day Ceremony, we will also have our annual voter registration drive at every high school, Vote in Honor of a Veteran, kicking off at the conclusion of the presentation. Each high school campus will host Supervisor of Elections ambassadors for the voter registration drive. Pasco County Schools honors and appreciates the sacrifices all of our veterans have made to protect and serve our great country. Historic Dade City Holiday Celebrations LLC 4th Annual Luminary Project HDCHC is once again gearing up for the luminary project to be held December 21, 22, and 23rd displaying over 3500 luminaries along with other decorations. This is a drive through display that enables everyone to view from the comfort of their own vehicle. Last year the project was expanded to include luminaries surrounding Price Park, and the north side of Meridian Avenue from 10th Street to 15th Street. We continue to light 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th Streets, as well as Magnolia, Robinson, and Beauchamp Avenues between 11th and 14th Streets. Each year the project has grown to become more beautiful and bring Christmas joy to the entire community. This takes an army of volunteers made up of neighbors, friends, family, neighborhood churches, youth groups, and ZHSJROTC. This year with the cooperation of the City of Dade City, we will be lighting the trees along Meridian Avenue in Price Park. We plan to continue expanding this effort each year until all of Price Park is illuminated. The Park will be lighted in conjunction with the other downtown lighting (Saturday after Thanksgiving) and will remain lit throughout the year end. This project is made possible by personal and corporate donations. A lighted sign in the neighborhood displays our list of sponsors as well as a flyer. There are (3) three tiers of sponsorships from which you could choose to participate this holiday season: $100 Candle Glow $350 Christmas Angel $750 Guided Star Checks may be made payable to Historic Dade City Holiday Celebrations LLC or HDCHC. It serves as a commercial center for an area encompassing more than 71,000 residents. Dade City’s downtown restaurants and antique gift shops are popular attractions for visitors The City of Dade City employs approximately 100 people. (http://www.dadecityfl.com) Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA In 1908, the first YMCA facility was built in Tampa. Over the decades, that first branch has grown to ten family facilities, four wellness centers, two golf facilities, an outdoor adventure camp, and numerous program sites across Hillsborough and eastern Pasco counties. Each location provides the wholesome, life-enriching activities YMCA’s founder George Williams envisioned long ago. YMCAs all across America became an integral part of our culture's fabric, sparking a spirit of creativity that has given us basketball and volleyball (both invented at the YMCA); the idea of night school, which has enabled so many to further their education; and the concepts for healthy organizations such as the Boy Scouts and Campfire Girls. Today, the YMCA, the largest and oldest service organization in America, serves 17 million members in 120 countries. In Tampa Bay, it reaches more than 160,000 individuals each year through membership, programs, and outreach activities in our community. Through Our Vision 2020, the foundation has been laid to take the Tampa YMCA into the future and to continue to serve the Tampa Bay community for years to come. The Tampa YMCA has approximately 200 full-time employees and 800 part-time employees. (http://tampaymca.org/3cmby) David A. Straz Jr. Center The David A. Straz Jr. Center for the Performing Arts opened its doors as the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center in July 1987 and has welcomed more than 10 million guests. In November 2009 the venue was renamed to recognize the generous donation, the largest individual philanthropic gift ever made to a cultural institution in the Tampa Bay area, of financier David A. Straz Jr. The Straz Center is located downtown on a 9-acre site along the east bank of the Hillsborough River. As the second largest performing arts complex in the southeastern United States, the 335,000-square-foot venue provides an environment for a variety of events. It has a leading Broadway series and produces grand opera, as well as presenting a variety of concerts, performances, and events. The Straz Center employs 293 regular full-time and part-time staff. (http://www.strazcenter.org/Tickets-Events) Grow Financial Federal Credit Union Grow Financial Federal Credit Union was founded in 1955 as the MacDill Air Force Base Federal Credit Union in Tampa. Civilian employees decided a credit union was needed to provide financial services for base personnel. It was a good idea at that time, as banks didn’t focus very much attention on the military community. So a broom closet in an office building was cleared, and MacDill Air Force Base Federal Credit Union was born, – Now, 60 years later, Grow Financial continues to flourish. It is based in Tampa with 561 regional employees and $1.8 billion in assets. (https:// www.growfinancial.org) Latest News from SBDC at USF Credit Card Changes Shifting Responsibility As consumers we have been receiving our new credit and debit cards with the ‘chip.’ Perhaps you’ve read that this makes your card safer. This is all great for us as consumers, but what does it mean to retailers? EMV, or Europay MasterCard Visa, is a newer technology for U.S. consumers that aims to reduce the amount of counterfeit cards and transactions. This technology has been in place in Europe and Canada for a number of years and both regions report their fraud and counterfeit cases have substantially been reduced. Many use the term chip instead of EMV to refer to the card. Now that the October 1, 2015, change over date is around the corner, U.S. retailers that accept credit cards on countertop stations, cash registers or mobile point of sale (POS) units have to update or upgrade their systems. This new card is not swiped but rather inserted into the POS, and it takes several seconds to authenticate before the transaction is complete. Many POS providers have equipped their clients with EMV enabled equipment, but perhaps the software update has not been made. If you are not sure, check with your provider to make sure you are ready to go on October 1. It will not be the end of the world for retailers that do not meet the October 1 deadline. However, should a counterfeit card be used, the liability now rests on the retailer. This liability shift is the biggest change with the introduction of this technology. The change will affect brick and mortar (2015), mobile businesses (2016) and gas stations (2017). Online retailers do not use a physical POS and no change is expected for this type of business, in the near future. Card users will have the option to use the card with or without a pin. Requiring the use of a pin will increase the security of the card, ultimately better protecting the consumer. Consumers can contact their card issuing company and request the additional feature of using a pin or requiring a signature for all transactions. The magnetic stripe is not going away any time soon. However, for POS businesses ready to take the chip, card swiping will not process the transaction. This is an additional safety feature for the consumer and for the retailer. Consumer chip cards will not be accessible to copy like magnetic only cards are, and retailers will be able to reduce their liability by using updated POS systems that will prevent swiped transactions of chip-enabled cards. Contact your POS provider for support and evaluate how the cost of updating your POS compares to your potential liability. Peace of mind, reduced liability, and business protection can be priceless. Building tours were conducted prior to the formal dedication ceremony. Kirk Hall is named for university president emeritus Dr. Arthur F. Kirk Jr., who retired from Saint Leo in summer 2015, after more than 18 years at the university. He and his family also attended the special event. "The naming of this state-of-the-art academic building so beautifully designed to support the most innovative and advanced teaching methods and to enhance student engagement in their learning is an honor beyond my imagination,” said Dr. Kirk. “My heart is full of gratitude for all the trustees, donors, and colleagues who honor me and full of joy that our students and faculty possess the absolute best academic resources available anywhere today. They deserve nothing less.” The recently opened, four-story, 48,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art academic building anchors the University Campus’ main entrance with its neighboring academic building that houses the Donald R. Tapia School of Business. Kirk Hall is the 11th new building at University Campus, in addition to three renovations, within the last 13 years. Kirk Hall is the new home for classes in liberal arts, education, criminal justice, and social work, as well as graduate-level classes for continuing professional education. It provides 16 classrooms, academic support services, and faculty offices. Saint Leo Forgoes Presidential Inauguration in Favor of Student Scholarships Twenty $2,500 “Inauguation Scholarships” to be rovided to deserving students College students and graduates have fond memories of campus events such as commencement, matriculation ceremonies, and academic convocations. These “rites of passage” events serve as a milestone in the life of a college and are remembered for years to come. The inauguration of a university president is traditionally celebrated with much pomp and circumstance. The word “inauguration,” which dates to the mid-16th century, is defined as a rite of passage marking a “formal or ceremonial induction to an office or dignity.” University presidents’ inaugurations can be both quiet ceremonies and elaborate affairs. Or, in the case of Saint Leo University’s new president, there can be none at all. Dr. William J. Lennox Jr., the 9th president of Saint Leo University, recently decided to forego a formal inauguration ceremony. “A day more centered around me seems at odds with our student-centered mission. Quite honestly, it’s not who I am or what I want to represent as the university’s president,” said Dr. Lennox. He decided that instead of having an inauguration this academic year, Saint Leo University will mark the leadership change by providing 20 “inauguration scholarships.” To honor Saint Leo’s “one university” approach, it will award five $2,500 scholarships each to students from University Campus, the Center for Online Learning, education centers, and graduate programs. These one-time scholarships will be funded and provided by a donor to the university. There is precedent for this type of action. In 2010, E. Gordon Gee, who twice served as the president of The Ohio State University, gave back some of his pay package. He directed more than $300,000 of his pay toward the $1 million he had personally pledged to donate toward scholarships. That same year, then University of Florida’s then president J. Box 2606, Dade City, FL 3352 Physical: 8527 Old Lakeland Highway, Zephyrhills, FL Phone: 352-567-6494 November 2015 Thanks! Saying “thank you” or even simply ‘thanks!” has nearly lost its meaning, its wonder, its fullness of true appreciation. “Thank you” and “thanks!” have become just another meaningless expression. So much so that people aren’t saying it as much these days and when they do, it is without a genuine feeling of appreciation. It’s just a phrase that is thrown around when you don’t know what else to say, said without a proper understanding of it’s meaning. But what if we could bring back the wonder and appreciation to the words “thank you” or “thanks!”? Not so much in how, or even when, it is said, but within ourselves, to feel genuine appreciation in our hearts for the gesture or gift someone has just bestowed upon us. To let that genuine feeling fill our words, to allow our “thank you” or “thanks!” to take on a life of their own so-to-speak through the genuine expression of the genuine appreciation that someone else would express kindness toward us. To allow the actions and thoughts of others to cultivate joy and happiness within. To turn our focus away from what we don’t have or wish we had to the many, abundant blessing that we do have. This is what Thanks-giving is all about. Being truly appreciative of all that we do have and less concerned with our wish and want lists. Thanks-giving for family, friends, love, memories, adventures, dreams come true, true joy and happiness that these things can bring to our lives. After all, it’s not happy people who are thankful; it’s thankful people who are happy. This month, many will do a thanks-giving challenge, listing something they are thankful for everyday. I challenge you to make the thanks-giving challenge a lifestyle. Begin to fill your “thank you” or “thanks!” to overflowing with genuine appreciation for everything in your life. Cultivate the habit of being grateful for the intangible things that are in your life. Rev. John J. Faughnan, Lead Pastor Rev. Michelle Faughnan, Associate Pastor, Christian Education Pasco Upcycle Festival November 14, 2014 10am-4pm Come enjoy the work of people who transform everyday, unwanted items into new products of better quality, or for better environmental value. Little Everglades Ranch 17951 Hamilton Road, Dade City For more info: 727-856-7252 [email protected] The Mayor’s Communiqué………………… With Halloween behind us with its ghosts, witches, goblins and treats, we turn our focus to the holiday season. We welcome in the month of November with its cooler mornings and comfortable temperatures, as our merchants ready their stores for visitors during this busy time of year. Dade City is preparing our town with beautiful seasonal decorations, lighting and more, while the merchants prepare to “unwrap” their stores to unveil holiday treasures and surprises. Festivities are plentiful this time of year as we embrace the sights and sounds of the season and excitement that comes along with holiday plans. During this very busy time for most, we remember that we have much to be thankful for in our community. We have many wonderful families, businesses organizations and services in our community ready to help with the next festival or event in Dade City. It is important however to remember that some families are not as fortunate as others and to keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this thanksgiving season. Sometimes we simply take for granted what appears on our tables in our homes each day while others find food and clothing scarce in their homes and neighborhoods. We are blessed to live in a community where organizations, services and families continue to reach out to those less fortunate in Dade City and the East Pasco areas. The Dade City Commission and staff continue to work with identified areas in our community that are in need of assistance. Recently, we completed the neighborhood cleanup to assist area residents rid their homes of unwanted items, trash and other debris which was hauled away. The City is in final stages of its Neighborhood Planning 1.0 Program. This program focused primarily on the Moore Mickens and East Lake neighborhoods. The Mickens field was updated with new equipment, scoreboard, and other amenities so that the children and families have improved areas for play. Naomi Jones Park was also updated with new playground equipment and remodeling of different aspects of the facility and more. Still more to do, but a start in the right direction. With the near completion of Neighborhood Planning 1, attention turns to Neighborhood Planning 2.0. Neighborhood Planning 2.0 will invite individuals from the community in the area to engage in conversation for suggestions for improvements, cleanup, demolition of blighted structures and other items , to make their community better place for all. We look forward to working with community members for the success of this planning. Further information can be obtained from City Hall and/or the city website. The City will continue to work diligently to clean up blighted areas, create attractive and inviting neighborhoods, promoting health and wellness with trails/bicycles, and providing for residents in the place they have called home. Wishing all a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends. As always, it is an honor and privilege to serve the residents of Dade City. Your ideas are encouraged and welcomed. Please contact me at [email protected] with your questions or comments as we continue to move Dade City from better to best. PASCO SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWSLETTER October 2015 We always talk about how important the relationship is between citizens and law enforcement. That isn’t just lip-service, it’s something we truly believe in here at the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. That partnership is fostered in our volunteer units. We’ve decided to bolster our ranks of volunteers with the formation of three additional units: The Volunteer Corps Marine Crime Watch Unit, the Volunteer Agriculture Response Team, and the Forensics Services Volunteer Team. The Volunteer Corps Marine Crime Watch Unit will patrol the waters of Pasco County, providing additional eyes and ears to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. It will function much like a Neighborhood Watch program where citizen volunteers, using their own vessels, patrol waterfront communities and other waterways. If those volunteers see something suspicious, they will then report it to the Pasco Sheriff’s Office. The Volunteer Agriculture Response Team will be mobilized across the county during times of natural disasters and critical incidents affecting the local agricultural community. This unit will assist the Pasco Sheriff’s Office Agriculture Unit in tasks that include emergency fence mending, corralling of animals, securing assets, and temporarily quarantining animals, among other objectives. Volunteers would be required to use their own vehicles and equipment during such events. Volunteer Agriculture Response Team members are expected to know the basics of animal handling, animal behavior, animal health, animal nutrition, fence mending, and must have a good working knowledge of the equipment and tools they are utilizing. The Forensic Services Volunteer Team members will assist in handling and processing property crime investigations. Forensics candidates will complete a 40-hour academy where they’ll develop forensics investigation skills. Forensics volunteers will also be trained in photography, identifying items of evidentiary value, fingerprint processing, evidence packaging, and report writing. As I mentioned before, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office has a number of volunteer units compiled of people who give graciously and willingly of their time, which we all know is important. Each year, our volunteers donate tens of thousands of hours to their community. To say we’re lucky to have that sort of support and partnership is indeed an understatement. And that is truly the embodiment of our motto: We Fight as One. Prospective volunteers must undergo a background check and fingerprinting. Volunteers do not receive any salary or benefits but are covered by worker’s compensation. Volunteers must also agree to work a minimum of hours a month that differs for the unit that they join. There are a number of volunteer units here and more information on each one can be found by visiting http://pascosheriff.com/volunteer-opportunities/. If you’re interested, please call the Pasco Sheriff’s Office Human Resources Department at (727) 844-7791 or 1-800-854-2862, extension 7791. You can also find an online application by visiting the website mentioned above. Brian E. Dianna Thomas Breast Cancer Screening Can Save Lives By: Michael Weiss, M.D., Obstetrics and Gynecology October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month—the perfect time to discuss the importance of mammography. Because breast cancer is often detectable in its early stages when there’s a good chance for a cure, screening is essential to early detection. Most significantly, mammography can identify tumors even before they can be felt. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, after non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. In 2012 (the most recent year numbers are available), 224,147 women in the United States were diagnosed with breast cancer, and 41,150 women died from the disease. The American Cancer Society recommends women have yearly mammograms starting at age 40 and continue for as long as a woman is in good health. If a woman is at high risk for developing breast cancer, her doctor may recommend screening at a younger age, along with additional imaging studies. Talk with your doctor about your history and whether you should have other tests or start testing at an earlier age. The Women’s Health Center at Bayfront Health Dade City provides breast cancer screening services. Screening and Diagnostic Mammography -A conventional screening mammogram is a low-dose x-ray test that creates images of breast tissue doctors can check for lesions or other abnormalities. The x-ray images make it possible to detect tumors that cannot be felt, and can find tiny deposits of calcium called microcalcifications that sometimes indicate the presence of breast cancer. -A mammogram used to check for breast cancer after a lump or other sign or symptom of the disease is called a diagnostic mammogram. Besides a lump, signs of breast cancer can include breast pain, thickening of the skin of the breast, nipple discharge, or a change in breast size or shape; however, these signs may also be signs of benign or non-cancerous breast conditions. Digital Mammography. At the Women’s Health Center at Bayfront Health Dade City women who undergo routine mammograms also have up-to-date diagnostic technology available with digital mammography. While digital imaging feels almost identical to conventional mammography, its benefits are a shorter exam time than traditional mammograms, and less chance that patients will be called back for repeat exams. Digital images tend to provide doctors with better visibility of the breast, chest wall and dense breast tissue. Through computer-aided technology, radiologists are able to enhance certain areas of the digital images to get a more precise picture of a patient’s condition. The digital images can also be stored electronically, and later retrieved to share with other doctors if needed in the future. Through the Affordable Care Act, all Marketplace health plans and many other private plans must cover breast cancer mammography screenings every 1 to 2 years for women over 40 without charging a copayment or coinsurance. Women should contact their mammography facility or health insurance company for confirmation. In addition, Medicare pays for annual screening mammograms for all female Medicare beneficiaries age 40 or older. Visit http://www.bayfrontdadecity.com/medical-services/breast-imaging to learn more about breast screening options. For more information on various breast diseases and conditions, the anatomy of breasts, other screening tools and more, visit www.BayfrontDadeCity.com, choose the “Health Resources” tab and type “Breast Health” in the search box. Bayfront Health Dade City Offers Vertigo and Balancing Treatments Are you finding it hard not to stagger when you walk, teeter when you stand or fall when rising from a chair? Do you ever experience dizziness, the feeling as if you are falling, blurred vision or a floating sensation when moving? These might be some signs of an underlying balance disorder or vertigo, a spinning sensation, and are a common cause for falls in older adults. Falls are the leading cause of death from injury among people 65 and older. Many experts believe that greater than 4 out of every 10 Americans run the risk of falling when experiencing episode(s) of dizziness that become serious enough to send them to the hospital. Many causes such as medications, health disorders, and/or inner ear complications can attribute to balance disorders and dizziness but all patients share psychological and emotional pain that can seriously impact every daily activity. As you grow older, your risk of developing these deficits increase and most symptoms start suddenly with no warning. Fortunately, non -invasive treatment can be provided depending upon the type of balance disorder you may be experiencing. Speaking with your physician, he or she will determine if medication or another ailment is to blame. Your physician will treat the condition and possibly prescribe a different medication if this is the case and/or send you to a physical therapist for further treatment. The physical therapist can evaluate and determine which type of balance disorder may be affecting you and provide specific, tailored treatment to aid in your recovery. Depending upon the type of balance deficit or dizziness you may be experiencing, the therapist may perform a series of movements, which can help dislodge crystals in your inner ear (vestibular system) back into their original position, relieving your symptoms. Treatment frequency may vary but in most cases one session works. Some may not experience full recovery from their dizziness and may need to perform a specific treatment plan to manage the symptoms and reduce their risk for falls that may lead to injury. Even individuals with chronic inner ear deficits who have undergone a period of medical management with little or no success may benefit. Balance retraining therapy and vestibular rehabilitation is also of significant benefit for fall prevention in the elderly patient who may suffer from multiple sensory and motor impairments and help promote improvements to their quality of life. To learn about treatments available at Bayfront Health Dade City, call (352) 521-1193 and ask to speak to Shane Sanborn, PT, DPT and Director of Rehabilitation. Penalty fee for not having health insurance increases this year Bayfront Health Dade City can help with enrollment Beginning November 1, Bayfront Health Dade City will again help area residents learn about and enroll in health insurance options on the Health Insurance Marketplace. As part of the Affordable Care Act, most U.S. citizens were required to have health insurance beginning in 2014. Since the passage of the ACA five years ago, about 16.4 million uninsured people have gained health coverage. Yet, approximately 30 million Americans remain uninsured. “As a primary health provider in east Pasco, our goal is to help educate residents in an easy-to-understand way, as well as assist those who haven’t yet signed up for health insurance or Medicaid, if qualified,” said Shauna Mckinnon, CEO of Bayfront Health Dade City “During the next few months, we’ll be out in the community and meeting one-on-one to help these individuals find affordable coverage.” Health Plans on Health Insurance Marketplaces The Health Insurance Marketplace provides U.S. citizens access to affordable health insurance coverage. Depending on household income, some individuals may qualify for government financial assistance– or subsidies – towards the cost of the premium and other financial obligations like co-pays or deductibles. All health plans on the Marketplace must offer a comprehensive set of benefits, and coverage cannot be denied for individuals with a pre-existing health condition. Some of the health benefits include free preventive care and wellness services, doctor visits, prescription drugs, hospital and emergency department care, lab services, pediatric services – and more. Julie Buckingham, City Market Bistro As a committed business owner, I view our Chamber vital to the Dade City business community. I want to thank the Dade City Chamber for supporting the business community by being a leading force for numerous projects within our community. I personally want to thank them for spearheading the co-op startup. The Chamber certainly has been a driving force for numerous events that helps keep Dade City vibrant and growing. Debra R. Flood, Owner, The Garden of Eden Salon and Day Spa From the point of view of a long time merchant in Dade City I support & appreciate our Chamber of Commerce for the diversity of its capabilities to promote Dade City, & it's close partnership & support of the downtown merchants. I believe cohesive communication is the key & the Chamber excels here. Dale Anne Laumer, Ivy Cottage Antiques and Wines This is the BEST Chamber I have ever belonged to. Just wanted you to know. Matt (Matthew J. Jowanna, Attorney at Law) The Law Offices of Matthew J. Jowanna, P.A. Top Drawer Antiques is very happy with its Chamber membership. We have seen a dramatic improvement in joint efforts between the merchants downtown, our former Main Street organization and the City Council. The Dade City Chamber of Commerce has increased awareness for events including the Kumquat Festival and the Car Show. Overall, we are pleased with the promotional work and support we receive from the chamber. John Moors is responsive to our feedback and communicates often regarding progress on various efforts. We encourage downtown businesses to become members in the Chamber, especially now that our Main Street organization has retired. Kathleen Hotchkiss, Top Drawer Antiques John, I just wanted to thank you and the Dade City Chamber for the leadership displayed over the last couple of weeks. With the announcement that Dade City Main Street was shutting down, there was a lot of 'uneasiness' among the retail merchants. But you stepped up immediately to reassure us all that the Chamber was more than willing to help with any gaps that might exist after the shut down. As a member for the last 16 years I am not surprised that this show of leadership was swift and immediate. The Dade City Chamber of Commerce is the arm that reaches out for all the small businesses that are unable to do this alone. The business climate in Dade City today is strong and vibrant and I believe the major contributor for this success is the Dade City Chamber. Again, thanks for all you do. Jim Hendry, A Matter of Taste Member Testimonials Continued.. I just wanted to say thanks for hosting the luncheon today, lots of energy and great information. Being a serial entrepreneur, I get a little pumped up to be in a room full of bright and energetic people. It makes me want to go and start other businesses! We look forward to getting more involved in the community through volunteer service and by hiring more local folks as we grow. Our vision has changed from a family business to a community business and the future is bright for our town. I look forward to seeing all of you again soon. Shannon Ray, Advanced Telecom Systems, LLC. Working closely with the Chamber gave us a tremendous advantage as we made important decisions about opening our business. We experienced a highly responsive staff anytime we had questions about the local business community, and the guidance it gave was simply invaluable. The Chamber and the City have successfully forged a unique partnership that eases the naturally arduous nature of opening a new business. The resources we found at the Chamber gave us considerable advantage all along the way. I’d strongly urge anyone who wants to be part of the local business community take full advantage of all the Chamber provides. Randy Sprayberry, Kingberry Estate Finds-Dade City We would like to thank the Greater Dade City Chamber of Commerce for assisting Entangle Media’s move into Dade City. John Moors and the Chamber team did a great job of showcasing the city, and taking the lead role in our decision to choose Dade City. The coordination between the Chamber, Dade City Officials, Pasco Economic Development Counsel, and SMARTstart Business Incubator region is very impressive, and the key to making our thought of relocation into a reality, in very quick time frame. Entangle Media has a very experienced team with online marketing, web design, web development, app development and social media. We could have chosen anywhere in the region, but have been very happy about the move to Dade city. It has been a great place to live, work, recruit employees, entertain, and for outdoor recreation. The combination of small town living, with big city conveniences, rural rolling hills, great bike trails, and coordinated economic team should be an attractive combination for any company. Mark Pinson, Entangle Media www.entanglemedia.com John, thank you for working with us on the 2016 Annual Kumquat Festival! Screening and Diagnostic Mammography A conventional screening mammogram is a low-dose x-ray test that creates images of breast tissue doctors can check for lesions or other abnormalities. The x-ray images make it possible to detect tumors that cannot be felt, and can find tiny deposits of calcium called microcalcifications that sometimes indicate the presence of breast cancer. A mammogram used to check for breast cancer after a lump or other sign or symptom of the disease is called a diagnostic mammogram. Besides a lump, signs of breast cancer can include breast pain, thickening of the skin of the breast, nipple discharge, or a change in breast size or shape; however, these signs may also be signs of benign or non-cancerous breast conditions. Digital Mammography At the Women’s Health Center at Bayfront Health Dade City women who undergo routine mammograms also have up-to-date diagnostic technology available with digital mammography.
