Maternity Tour Join us for a walking tour of our Labor & Delivery suites and our new Mother-Baby Unit. Pre-registration is required. Childbirth/Infant Care Program includes labor and birth information, breathing and relaxation techniques, comfort measures, medications, hospital procedures, cesarean birth and mother/infant care after birth. Classes should be scheduled so that they end three to five weeks before your due date! Register for a FREE Breastfeeding Class and our Maternity Tour at the same you are registering for this series. Childbirth Express Class In this four-hour abbreviated childbirth class, learn about labor, birth and pain management in a lecture format. Breathing and relaxation techniques are not included in this class. If you are interested in breathing and relaxation techniques, please register for our Six-Week or Three-Day Childbirth/Infant Care Class Series instead. Cesarean Birth Class This two-hour class will help to prepare couples for a planned cesarean birth. Class content includes cesarean birth video, discussion of procedure, anesthesia options, pain relief and quick recovery tips. Private Childbirth Classes Private instruction at your home designed to meet your special needs for those unable to attend a childbirth class series. Requires a minimum of four hours of instruction. Refresher Childbirth Class Three-hour abbreviated refresher childbirth class is for couples who have attended a childbirth preparation class within the last four years and only need a short review. Breastfeeding Class This two and a half hour class is designed to help moms get off to the right start with breastfeeding. Class is free to participants in our six-week and three-day Childbirth/Infant Care Course. Dads are encouraged to attend this class with Moms! Programs for Before the Baby Arrives... Brother & Sister Class Siblings (ages 3 to 6 years) will hear a story and talk about the arrival of a new baby. Children will choose a gift for the baby. “Hey, What About Me?” Class Siblings (ages 5 to 9 years) will view a video of children expressing their thoughts, feelings and perceptions about the arrival of a new baby. Children will choose a gift for the baby. Baby Care Basics Learn how to care for your newborn during those challenging first weeks. Topics include bathing, diapering, cord care, circumcision care, taking a temperature and when to call the doctor. This is a great companion class for our Childbirth Express Class. This class is not necessary if you are registered for our 3-Day or Six-Week Childbirth/Infant Care Class series – as the information is included in those classes. Fatherhood 101 Class A workshop to help expectant and new dads meet the challenges of fatherhood. Taught by experienced dads. For men only, but infants are also welcome. “So You’re Going to be a Grandparent” Class This class focuses on how to be a helpful grandparent, infant care and feeding, and safety with baby furniture and toys. A tour of the birth suite is provided. Programs for After the Baby Arrives... Lactation Consultant Services Certified lactation consultants are available for individual consultations in your home. Breast pumps are available for sale or rental. Please call 301-279-MOMS (6667) for information on fees and scheduling. All About Pumping and Going Back to Work All you need to know about choosing a pump and preparing breast milk when you return to work – use and cleaning instructions, safe storage and more. Register close to your due date or come after your baby is born (with your baby, of course). It will enhance, but not replace our breastfeeding class. Purchase a pump at this class and receive a $5 discount on our greatly discounted Medela Pump in Style Breast Pumps. B.E.S.T. Program: “Breastfeeding Education, Support and Togetherness” Breastfeeding moms and their babies can join this informal group for breastfeeding information and support for the continuation of breastfeeding and for assistance with challenging situations. Discovering Motherhood Class A six-week program of education and support for new moms and their babies. Discussion topics include adjusting to motherhood, coping skills, infant development, age appropriate play, positive discipline, and safety and childproofing your home among other topics. Infant Massage Class Learn how to massage your infant from birth to crawling, and experience the benefits of touch in this three-session class. Taught by a pediatric physical therapist certified in infant massage. Services Available to Make Your Stay More Satisfying Cafeteria: Located on the first floor.
