CHIDHAM
Harbour Way is located to the west of Chichester, in the parish of Chidham which is a peninsula of predominantly
agricultural countryside and to the north the A259 coastal road provides access eastwards to Bosham and Chichester
and westwards to Emsworth and Portsmouth. Walking and horse riding are popular activities in this area with
spectacular views over the shores of Chichester Harbour, the surrounding countryside and to the South Downs.
Chidham has a fine public house and restaurant, historic church, a primary school and nearby is the Cobnor Activities
Centre, a long established charity with links to West Sussex County Council Youth Service. Chichester Harbour is a
Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Much of the coastal area is populated by rare wildlife and designated an Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Harbour Conservancy is active in preserving the remarkable beauty of the
harbour and much of the surrounding countryside.
CHICHESTER
The beautiful ancient cathedral city of Chichester has a
particularly fascinating history and considerable
connections with the Roman Empire as seen by the
archaeological remains of the City Walls. Cultural
activities include the winning Pallant House Gallery and
the internationally acclaimed Festival Theatre. One on the
most exciting and colourful annual events of the year is
the Festivities centred on the Cathedral. Among the
renowned schools in the area, both in the public and the
private sector are; Bishop Luffa, Oakwood, Portsmouth
Grammar, Prebendal and Westbourne House, Great
Ballard, Slindon College, Seaford College, and Bedales at
Petersfield.
COUNTRY & COASTAL PURSUITS
Events and sporting activities in the area include the
Goodwood Festival of Speed and Revival events for
motoring enthusiasts, horseracing at Goodwood and
Fontwell racecourses, polo at Cowdray Park, golf at
nearby Goodwood, and bathing off the beach at the
Witterings. Chichester Harbour has about 3,800
moorings, 2,000 berths in 6 marinas and 14 sailing clubs.
Chichester Marina, Birdham Pool and Chichester Yacht
Club provide excellent sailing facilities. Other local
attractions include; the Weald and Downland Open Air
Museum and West Dean Gardens, Other places of
interest are Fishbourne Roman Palace, Tangmere
Military Aviation Museum, and the historic houses of
Goodwood House, Stansted Park and Petworth House.
GARDENS & GROUNDS
The property is approached from a private road close to the head
of the harbour. Crosstrees is approached over a carriage driveway
with a turning area and ample parking for numerous vehicles.
The grounds opposite the house of about 0.5 acres are included
and laid mainly to lawn with a small post and rail fence and an
area for a small dinghy. There is a private landing point with post
and rail decking area leading down to the jetty with dinghy whip
providing direct access to the harbour at high tide. The side and
rear gardens are beautifully landscaped and laid out for ease of
maintenance and mainly laid to a neat level lawn, bordered with
fencing and hedging, a few trees and flower borders, providing
areas which have a good degree of privacy. There is a hard court
Tennis court adjacent to the left of the house and detached
double garage to the east of the house. The paved sun terrace is
well sited for the afternoon and evening sun. There are stunning
views to the south over nearby fields and at the front tireless
views of the harbour. Note: Mooring (half tide) with
transferable licence included. In all, about 2 acres
DIRECTIONS
From Chichester’s Stockbridge roundabout continue along
the A27 westwards. At the next roundabout take the first
exit signposted A259, Fishbourne and Bosham, and after
about 1.8 miles at the Bosham roundabout take the second
exit. Continue along the A259 for about a mile and turn
left into Chidham Lane, and after about 0.7 miles turn left
into Harbour Way. After about 500 yards Crosstrees will
be found on the right hand side.
