Preschool News!
Most of the children have settled well at Preschool. A few children are finding it hard to separate from their
parents. The children are enjoying making new friends and doing lots of different activities.
At the Preschool we follow The Early Years Learning Framework. The program is based on the children’s
interests. The children learn through play. They get to do different activities like painting, puzzles, drawing,
building with blocks and lego. The children learn numbers and action songs. They listen to stories and answer
questions orally.
At preschool the children bring a healthy snack and lunch eg. Fruit, yoghurt, cheese, sandwich and water. To
keep fit the children get to dance and do yoga.
We follow the sun smart program. The children and staff were hats for outside play. Children are provided with
sunscreen.
This year a speech pathologist will be visiting the preschool on a Wednesday. The speech pathologist will be
working with children that have speech difficulties.
Mr Mourad’s class 5M are our buddies. 5M will be visiting our preschool to read stories to the children.
Towards the end of term three the children get to visit the library. They listen to a story read by Miss Van Hoek
and then they get an opportunity to choose a book and look at it.
At the beginning of term four we have our transition to Kindergarten program. The children get to visit the
Kindergarten classes and also have development play activities with the Kindergarten children.

Lunar New Year Assembly
On Wednesday 10/2 we had our K-6 Assembly to celebrate the Lunar New Year- The year of the Monkey. Year 5
VCL students performed a Vietnamese song about spring time or Lunar New Year. The girls
wore colourful traditional dresses (ao dzai) and carried the cherry blossoms (hoa dao va hoa
mai), fruit, sticky rice cakes, candied fruits and red envelopes (bao li xi).
Year 3 CCL students also performed a singing and dancing item in Chinese and in English.
At the end of their items, students greeted “Happy New Year” in Chinese and Vietnamese.
The whole school enjoyed the items about the Lunar New Year including 5M drama
performance about the Chinese Zodiac.

Teacher Professional Learning.
It is important that our school community has a clear understanding of what the
Department of Education mandates in terms of our responsibility to teacher professional
learning and how that is delivered in schools. The department values the learning of its
staff and is committed to supporting your career-long professional development.
The research is clear. There is a strong link between the professional qualities of individual
teachers and the
learning outcomes of students. High standards of teaching and teacher professionalism are in the best interests of
students, of public education and of the teaching profession.
Teacher learning and development will take place in different ways through a wide range of flexible learning
options. These might include:

electronic learning

short courses

conference attendance

mentoring or coaching.
The Department of Education refer to these opportunities through which teachers learn and develop as,
professional learning. The department believes that:

all teacher professional learning should contribute, either directly or indirectly, to improved student learning
outcomes

teachers have the right to be supported in their professional learning throughout their career, especially as it
relates to the major strategic directions of the department

teachers have a professional responsibility to continue to learn

teachers professional learning is most effective when it is planned and linked to individual, team, workplace
and/or organisational learning priorities

teacher prior learning and existing skills and knowledge should be recognised and valued; and
technology, open learning models and flexible learning will provide teachers with enhanced access to
professional learning opportunities.
Much of teacher learning will occur in our workplace at CHPS. Opportunities for your professional learning are
provided by colleagues, by the department, by professional associations, by universities and TAFE NSW Institutes
or by other external providers.
CHPS publishes in our fortnightly newsletter the teachers who are participating in professional learning, the course
and date. We urge parents to stay informed as to their child’s participation in these events and understand that all
class programs continue to run by qualified casual teaching staff.

Summer Heat
With the weather warming up, please ensure that children wear the correct
summer uniform. Boys should be wearing shorts with short sleeve shirt, and girls,
summer dress. NO CHILD SHOULD BE WEARING TRACKSUIT PANTS. Children
can overheat very quickly and this can lead to medical issues.
ABORIGINAL EDUCATION 2016
Exciting things are happening at Canley Heights in 2016!
We have a dynamic and dedicated team of teachers who make up our Aboriginal Committee, a wonderfully motivated
group of students and fantastic and supportive parents who make up our hard working and special community!
This year we are striving to put into place some new initiatives as well as continuing with our very successful “Kulture
Club.”
These initiatives will only become DEADLY if we all work together as a TEAM. We eagerly look forward to the
opportunity to work together with our students, parents and community on these new initiatives throughout the year.
Our visions include;

An aboriginal inspired wall mural

A “Bush Tucker” garden

Creation of a “Yarning Circle” seating area

A “Didge’n’Drum” Club

And…..This year we are inviting our Pacific Islander and New Zealand friends as an extension to our
Kulture Club.
We are calling out to anyone in our community who can help our students and
teachers in making these DREAMS BECOME REALITY!
So what do we need?

Anyone who can help us paint our wall mural and/or has access to paint

supplies

Anyone who would be happy to help with supplying and/or planting bush tucker
for our garden (you don’t need to have a green finger!)

Anyone who can teach our boys to play the didgeridoo correctly? We have

purchased a set of beautifully hand painted didgeridoos just waiting to be played!

Aboriginal and Pacific Islander/New Zealand elders who can instruct our

students on culture and tradition

Anyone who can teach traditional Haka Performance.
2016 will be a busy and exciting year for us all!
In fact we hope it’s a “DEADLY” year!
If you are able to help, or know of anyone who can help in any of the
above mentioned areas, we would be greatly appreciative and thrilled!
Please contact the office and your details will be passed onto the
Aboriginal Committee.

swimming costume, towel, hat and jacket if it is a cool day. All children should have dry underwear to get changed
into after swimming. If your child has problems with
water in their ears, please supply ear plugs. Goggles are optional. Please make sure all swimming things are clearly
labelled with your child's name. If you have any questions please speak to Miss Bazzo or Mrs Payne.
TLC (Technology Learning Centre)
HORRAY!!!! TLC is starting this Wednesday!!!! Well done to all those students who got in quickly
with their permission notes. There were so many notes handed in so please check the list outside 6G
