Italy May 15-27, 2015
Karlyn and Bonnie have a wonderful trip to Tuscany with three days in Cortona, Italy from May 15 to 27, 2015. This is our
fourth trip to this wonderful facility. The Tuscan Renaissance Center will be our home for the first seven days and then we will travel to a lovely Tuscan town
named Cortona for three days. The Renaissance Center is a lovely fully renovated 15th century monastery. It has beautiful
rooms that are large and comfortable with en suite
bathrooms. We even have large screen TV’s and CNN
in every room. The food is served in five courses by
an executive cook. The center is also a cooking school
known as Il Chiostro. The food is organic and the chianti
is sulfate-free. We will have freshly baked cakes,
prosciutto and cheese, fresh bread, cereal, and more for
breakfast. After breakfast, we go to the local villages to
paint. We usually stay on to enjoy a relaxing lunch before
we return to the monastery. On our return from painting,
we take time to go to the studio, rest, read, exercise, swim
in the pool or whatever you desire. To the left is a photo
of our studio at San Fedele. Our itinerary includes places
like San Gigminano, Siena, Radda, Castelina and many
more. I have included a map to give you an idea of where
we are located. Our beautiful home is called San Fedele
and is located by Radda. Check out their website at www.
tuscanrc.com.
Our add on town is Cortona. It is a small town, but plenty to see and paint with nice museums too. There is a lot of street
life, cafes and great shopping. Cortona is a popular hill town, about 3000 years old, surrounded by Etruscan walls. It was the
setting for the popular movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”. Anyone who wants to organize their own independent add on to
other places in Umbria, like Assisi or Perugia, can easily take a bus from the main square or jump on a train. We will fly into Florence on May 16th and depart from Florence on May 27. You may want to extend your trip on either
end and stay on in Florence. I do not plan to go to Florence as a painting site because it is one and a half hours from San
Fedele. I will send more information about scheduling your flights so you can coordinate your flights with the bus arrival
and departure. The class will be co-taught by Bonnie Broitzman. We have done so many trips together we’ve lost count; it is at least fifteen. She is a wonderful drafts-person and talented artist. She always inspires me on these trips, and I really like her style.
The cost is $3200.00 and includes: • Pick up on arrival and drop off at the Florence Airport
