CASA MARIA
Casa Maria is a charming and spacious 2 bedroom (sleeps 3), 1 bathroom apartment in upper Cortona. The front door is just
steps away from a breathtaking view of the Val di Chiana and Lake Trasimeno. The home is a 5-10 minute walk up the hill from
the center of Cortona. The owners, Maria and Angelo, are longtime friends of ours who have just purchased and restored this
wonderful home.
When entering the home from the street of Via San Marco, you step into a long corridor, where there is a full bathroom and a
small bedroom with one twin bed. Across the hall is the cozy master bedroom with a queen-size bed. Further down the corridor
is the open plan kitchen, dining, and living area. From the windows of the living area, there is a beautiful view of Cortona’s
terracotta rooftops and the Val di Chiana beyond. Casa Maria is furnished in a modern Italian style and interspersed with
traditional Tuscan antiques that were heirlooms in Maria’s family. Casa Maria has free internet, TV and a washing machine.
Maria and Angelo are also the owners of Agriturismo Aquaviva, our favorite restaurant outside of Cortona. It is located about 30

Maria does all the cooking herself and her food is sublime. If you are ready for an adventure and have a rental car,you will
have a wonderful meal and a non-tourist experience. Agriturismo Acquaviva is way out in the middle of nowhere and not many
tourists end up here. However, locals from all over the countryside and nearby towns come to eat, the food is that good! They
are only open on weekends and it is best to reserve in advance. Please let us know if you would like to do so and we can help
faciliate this for you. Be sure to tell them you are a guest in their home! Maria and Angelo take great pride in their lovely home
and are excited to share their beautiful apartment with you!
CORTONA
Cortona is a 3,000 year old Etruscan hill-town conveniently situated in Tuscany between Florence and Rome.It lays on the main
rail line and also the main Autostrada between Rome and Florence.
Cortona was recently made famous by the book/movie “Under the Tuscan Sun”. Along with incredible physical beauty and
views of the valley and lake Trasimeno below, Cortona offers a array of fine restaurants and shops.The town also boasts two
museums and numerous churches and historical sights. It truly is a magical place to explore!
*Please note: Cortona is an ancient, walled hilltown with many stairs, steep streets and limited driving/parking with no
elevators or handicap accomodations. Please be advised of this if you have mobility issues of any sort.

Stacey Mattraw and Rob Friedman, the former owners of Urbino in Portland, Oregon, www.urbino-pdx.com have been traveling
to Italy for 30 years and have lived between Portland and Cortona for the past 10 years. They have developed an intimate
knowledge of the town and and have established significant friendships and relationships with the Cortona local people.
They have secured the booking rights to these wonderful Cortona homes featured on the Sojourn Ventures website and have
personally developed strong working relationships with these Italian owners. They have inspected all of their featured homes
ensuring a high level of taste and amenities.
Stacey and Rob provide a “concierge service” for their guests to ensure a unique experience not normally available to tourists.
Their famous “Insider Tips to Cortona” is a booklet they have prepared to give you valuable information regarding travel in Italy
and specific information on Cortona, including favorite restaurants, cafes, shops, food stores, etc.
Their Italian colleague Denyse Perathoner of Together in Tuscany, a local Cortona tour company, is their guests contact and and
check in person. She offers a variety of fantastic local tours and activities, the most popular being personalized cooking classes
and wine tours. Further afield, she organizes excellent tours of the major cities, Rome, Florence and Venice.
