President’s Message
Hello Baton Rouge Chapter of the IIA,
As we move into a new chapter year, I want to take a moment to be sure
the chapter realizes the excellent job the officers and governors did during
the 2012 – 2013 chapter year. The Baton Rouge Chapter of the IIA maintained its Platinum status and provided a quality set of programs. The current group of officers and governors hope to continue the success of past
years.
The officers and governors you elected to lead during the 2013 – 2014 chapter year have been hard at work to plan the chapter year. We hope to
bring you networking and learning opportunities that meet your needs.
Make sure you check-out the events calendar included in each newsletter
sent out this year for details on upcoming events. We will make every effort to give advanced notice for upcoming events.
In addition to events occurring during this chapter year, the Baton Rouge
and New Orleans Chapters are working together to submit a bid to the IIA
to host a Regional Conference in 2015. As we continue our planning efforts, we will be looking for volunteers to assist with the conference. If
you have interest in helping us put together the conference, please let me
know!

In line with the IIA’s partnership with Junior Achievement, we
will be working for our chapter to build a relationship with the
Junior Achievement team in Baton Rouge. For those who have
not had the opportunity to support the Junior Achievement mission, they coordinate a volunteer-delivered kindergarten – 12th
grade academic outreach program to promote work-readiness,
entrepreneurship, and financial literacy skills. From my personal experience volunteering with Junior Achievement, I can
tell you it is a rewarding experience to work with young children who are excited to learn. This newsletter contains more
information about Junior Achievement and how to get involved.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or any of the officers
during the chapter year, if you have any questions, concerns, or
ideas. We look forward to seeing each of you at the many
events we have planned for the fall!
Thanks,
Jude Viator

How great is the need for financial education in our community?
The answer is…Urgent and growing. Junior Achievement financial education programs are
part of a solution.
What is JA Finance Park?
A personal finance program for middle school students. Teachers teach financial lessons, afterwards students visit Finance Park to work with a volunteer for the day. At the park, they become an “adult for a day”. They will have a “family” receive a salary, pay taxes, get a mortgage, pay utilities, buy food, and more – all while living within their family budget.
What do Finance Park Volunteers Do?
Finance Park is a ONE DAY volunteer opportunity. Volunteers will work with a small group of
students (4 - 6) for the day assisting them through their park experience and helping them in
their household budgeting learning.
When is Finance Park?
The mobile laboratory is here from October 1 – Nov 6, 2013, operating Mon-Fri. Each day. JA
will need 18 - 22 volunteers to work with students.
Training: Volunteer training is done at 9:00 am, the morning your volunteer date.
Time Commitment: Volunteer training 8am - 9am / Working with students in the program
9am -1:30pm on the scheduled day
Where: Finance Park is held at Cortana Mall
