Tidings
from Managing Director’s desk
India’s aviation on a new high
India’s airspace hasn’t always been so
lively or attractive. The government had
a monopoly on national air carriers and
strict aviation policies blocked foreign
ventures. That all changed with deregulation in 1994.
Air India, the country’s national carrier,
has been carrying the India flag around
the world for decades. Low-cost carriers
now rule Indian skies, with the likes of
Indigo and Spicejet accounting for two
thirds of the domestic market. While
most other airlines are removing frills,
however, Vistara, a new full-service
carrier, is adding them in.
Traffic figures for the month of
December 2015 released by aviation
regulator Directorate General of Civil
Aviation (DGCA) shows that in calendar
year 2015, Indian carriers flew 81.09
million domestic passengers, up 20 per
cent over the year 2014, making 2015
one of the better years for Indian
aviation.
Average domestic load factors in
the industry in 2015 was 82 per
cent compared to 76 per cent of the
previous year. The increase in domestic
capacity and increase in load factors
have resulted in large growth.
Between April 2015 and January 2016,
the number of international passengers
flying to and from India grew by 7.6%,
while domestic passenger traffic was
up 20.6%. By 2020, India’s airports are
expected to carry as many as 369
million passengers compared to the
current 190 million. As of today, just a
little over 2% of Indians take to the skies.
The huge potential has now forced
global aircraft makers to woo Indian
companies to buy more planes.
According to Boeing and Airbus,
the world’s two largest such firms,
India is expected to order more than
1,600 aircraft over the next 20 years.
Forecasted growth for India’s domestic
traffic is expected to be around 15%
for the current year.
By all means, India seems to be on
a cusp of a civil aviation revolution.
Aviation Industry in India holds around
69% of the total share of the airlines
traffic in the region of South Asia. This
time period, thus, is critical for the
industry and requires serious governance
and leadership to create global Indian
institutions.
To summarize, triggered by the reforms
that started almost 2 decades back,
India’s civil aviation sector is ready to
become one of the largest in the world.
While the opportunities are immense,
the vulnerability of our skies has also
grown manifolds.
In 2016, we will focus on the following
objectives, all aimed at improving
quality, pursuing partnerships with
key stakeholders and playing our part
in strengthening and broadening our
collaboration.
Let us aim in achieving our vision for
Amadeus, as a leading transaction
processor that is built around the
needs of its users and stakeholders,
providing the best and most accessible
information to the global travel and
tourism industry.
Here’s raising a toast to new
opportunities.

Burning issues facing tourism
in India today
By Anil Mathur
Tourism, like much else in India, presents
a fuzzy picture, with much scope for
confusion and even contradiction, reflected
in the classic example of half-full half
empty glass scene. But what cannot
be denied is the fact the fascinating
travel and hospitality industry is facing
some burning issues, calling for urgent
attention, so that the benefits of job
creation and contribution to the economy
are derived by all the stakeholders.
The much acclaimed Incredible India
campaign is due for a fresh lease of life,
taking into account the new developments.
Branding at the State and local level is
required as well as planning from down
to up, rather than the other way. The
E visa regime is being called a game
changer but for the full advantage to
flow, it should be made valid for multiple
entries, and for longer period. Safety and
security need greater attention in India,
even though it may be said to be issues
in many countries.
Many players in the industry narrate
stories of how cheating by touts and
others are harming tourism, and this
needs to be treated or curbed on a
war footing before more harm is done.
Airports need special attention, as that
is where the foreign tourist gets first
impression of the country.
The benefits of Skill Development
schemes must reach the tourism sector
in full measure, with the knowledge
that skills - rather than just degrees give you the jobs. The need of adequate
language guides at the right places
cannot be emphasised enough.
It is well known that the China
outbound market is booming, or even
bursting, but are we prepared to cater
to it?
Wellness, medical, MICE, adventure are
segments which need to be nurtured,
so that India gets the best out of
these. The E visa for short yoga courses
is welcome but it should be extended to
other areas as well.
Technology is fast changing and the
challenge is to integrate it into the
industry. Amadeus has done pioneering
work in this and the burning issue is how
the industry can make best use of it.
Clearly, there can be no tourism without
the States, and many States, such as
Rajasthan , need better air connectivity.
For example, Jaipur should be capable
of handling international flights. Several
airports in many States are not functional
which should not be hapening.
The marketing effort through tourist
offices, embassies and through other
means must be augmented as soon as
possible. In days to come much more
is going to be heard on ethical tourism
policy by which all segments and
stakeholders, agents, portals and hotels,
will gain.
INDUSTRY SPEAK
Here is what some leading players have
to say about burning issues;
Bhim Singh,
Managing Director, Rajasthan Tours,
based in Jaipur, feels that ‘the state
must have more flights to Jophpur,
Jaisalmer and Bikaner, and Rajasthan
must get more exposure at international
events like ITB and WTM.’ Reliable data
and statistics must be made available
and more language guides must be
hired and trained. Domestic tourism has
kept the flag flying, in the absence of
increase in international arrivals.
Nimit Chowdhary,
Nodal Officer, IITTM, Noida
who has wide international exposure,
wants more stress on projects, rather
than class room teaching. Branding
should be done so that the local needs
and focus is met.
Anil Bhandari,
Chairman AB Smart Concepts,
feels that Swacchh Bharat, launched
in 2014, is yet to pick up. Safety and
security is a big issue. Visitor experience
should be enhanced. Connectivity and
way side amenities must be augmented,
along with other infrastructure which
is growing at a snail’s speed. Japanese
and Chinese language guides must be
increased.
Mukesh Goel
Director, Oriental Travels, says ‘top
priority should be given to stop cheating
and touts be removed from airports,
otherwise more harm will be done.’
J.Taneja
Managing Director, TSI, says that ‘the
challenge is to get the right people into
the industry.’
Interface
7
Rajendra Kumar,
Director, Vivanta The Ambassador
Hotel New Delhi, feels that only those
dedicated to the industry must come
and stay on.
So we see that currently the industry
in our country is faced with a lot of
challenges and burning issues. There
is a huge potential and resources but
until these issues are not addressed
seriously, the industry will face only a
stunted growth and will not be able to
rise to the level it ideally should.

Pro Printer: upgrade
required to version
5.2P100
Overview:
An upgrade to v5.2P100 is required for all users of
Pro Printer.
Customer Value: The new version of Pro Printer will be
PCI-DSS compliant and will be certified for Windows 10.
Customer Impact: Markets have to upgrade clients
installed on the customers’ computers. Upgrading from a
very old version (e.g. version 3 or 4) might require some
support to ensure a smooth migration.
This change is also applicable on EMD audit and EMD
agent coupons. Sample an EMD agent
coupon with service restrictions:
Customer Target: This rollout applies to all markets
worldwide with users of Amadeus Selling Platform or
Selling Platform Connect who are working with a Pro
Printer version older than 5.2P100.
Market Deployment: All markets are required to upgrade
to Pro Printer version 5.2p100. While the migration may be
problem free for the most recent clients, upgrading from
a very old version (ex. version 3 or 4) might require some
support to ensure a smooth migration.
Launch date by channel: Pro Printer v5.2P100 is already
available for installation in Acceptance in WebConfig. It is
mandatory to perform the upgrade before June 1st 2016.
After this date, previous versions of Pro Printer will not be

Amadeus Ticket Changer – ATC Reissue –
Repricing with Fare Family options
Overview:
New ATC Reissue options are now
available to allow agents to target fares
belonging to a given fare family at
repricing time.
“Respect the training.
Honor the commitment.
Cherish the results.”
Customer Value: With the deployment
of airlines’ fare families for Travel
Agents, ATC users will now be able to
target fare families and to be sure that
the right range of service is associated
to the reissued ticket.
Customer Target: All ATC Reissue users.
Market Deployment : Activated by default
to all users in every market. Available in
cryptic, Selling Platform command page
and Web Services.
Launch date by channel: Available for
all users in production: April 6th 2016.
Minimum Hardware/Software
Requirements: ATC Reissue must be
activated.
Implementation guidelines: This
enhancement is activated by default to
all users in every market.
Key features: Two new repricing options
will be available.
/FF option to request the same fare
family(ies) as the one(s) requested at
first pricing time.
/FF-FareFamilyName to target a given
fare family.
Segment association can be specified
in these options, e.g /FF2,4-ECO or /
FF2,3 (segment association always
refers to segments present in the PNR).
If there is no segment association in the
fare family field, the fare family option
applies for all segments in the PNR.
Both options are combinable with all ATC
repricing entries: FXF, FXQ, FXE and FXO,
combinable with each other and with all
other ATC options except the fare basis
override option.
FQFn, as a follow-up entry, already
available at first pricing, will now
be available after repricing too. This
entry displays description of the fare
family(ies) used for the repricing. “n”
stands for the recommendation number
user wants to target.
Finally, new entry FQF/ATCn will allow
agents to display descriptions of both
fare families used at pricing time and
the fare families used at repricing time.
This will allow agents to compare new
services to the old services the traveler
was entitled to. Entry will help the agent
to identify if a service is missing /added
in the new itinerary compared to the
original one. This entry is available in
two modes:
• As a standalone request, to compare
fare family (ies) conditions from a
given ticket with the fare family (ies)
conditions resulting from repricing of a
new itinerary. New itinerary information
and ticket number are mandatory
in input, e.g. FQF/ATCPARNCE/A6X/
ECOFLEX/TKTYYY-ZZZZZZZZZ
As a follow-up transaction, to compare
services of the fare family(ies) used
at repricing with the original fare
family(ies) of the ticket being repriced.
Recommendation’s number is mandatory
to use this entry as a follow-up transaction,
e.g. FQF/ATC1.
•
Main Benefits : With introduction of
these new ATC repricing options, agents
will now be able to target a specific fare
family at repricing time and be sure to
propose the right level of service to his/
her customers. Clear display of fare
family (ies) description will also simplify
agent work when reissuing a ticket for
his/her customer.
Illustration: New entry FQF/ATC allows
agent to display description of both fare

Air Passenger Duty Exemption in the United
Kingdom (UK)
Overview:
The UK government has announced an
Industry mandate detailing a change to
the Air Passenger Duty (APD - Tax code
GB), Passengers up to and including
the age of 15 will be exempted from
this tax.
APD is a tax collected at departure
time from airports in Great Britain,
collected at time of payment for ticket
issue and reflected on the ticket.
This will apply for travel from the 1st
of March, 2016
Background: As per the mandate passed
by the UK Government, the APD will
be exempted for all passengers under
16 years of age travelling in lower
class. Since this mandate is applicable
for travels from the 1st March 2016
onwards, sales can effectively occur
from March 2015.
The mandate is currently being discussed
at the Industry level, and long term
solutions will be discussed in upcoming
working groups planned by IATA.
New change
Amadeus has implemented a partial
solution which will ensure that when the
age is provided in the input, the APD will
be exempted at pricing time.
Impacted areas
Pricing
When the age is provided in the input,
the APD will be exempted for passengers
under the age of 16, in the offline flow.
The age can be inputted by means of
any Passenger Type Code (PTC). The
following existing PTCs could be used
as needed: BNN, CNN, DNN, ENN, FNN,
GNN, INN, JNN, LNN, MNN, PNN, TNN,
UNN, VNN, YNN.
PTCs such as ANN (Age Restricted
Companion), SNN (Restricted Senior
Citizen) however will not be relevant for
younger passengers.
For example: For pricing a PNR with a
passenger of age 14 using FXP/RB14
would be exempt from the GB tax (FXP
in the transaction for PNR pricing, R is for
Restrictions and B14 is the PTC BNN with
NN substituted by the age).
For cases where the aforementioned
PTCs are not compatible with the way
the fare is filed, the Exempt tax option
can be used at Pricing time, which allows
the GB tax to be exempt and the TST
remains automatic.
For example: FXP/R,ET-GB will exempt
GB tax
Reservation
As mentioned above, Amadeus has
implemented a filing workaround which
is dependent on the age and the date
of birth of the passenger being input
in the flow. This is to ensure that APD
is exempted from pricing as regards to
passengers over 12 and under 16.
This solution will work for any channel
used (Cryptic, Web Services, Edifact,
front-end) as long as the age and the
date of birth is provided correctly in the
request to the Pricing system.
Additionally to the pricing entry,
Amadeus recommends to enter the PTC
and the Date of Birth in the passenger
name as follows:
Ex: NM1JOHN/SMITH MR(B15)
(IDDOB20AUG2002)
This information will be then reported in
the RET/HOT file and can be more easily
extracted by Revenue Accounting in case
of auditing.
Besides, Amadeus advises to fill in SSR
DOCS with Date of Birth as well to be
aligned with IATA recommendations.
SR DOCS TG HK1-----20AUG02-F-JOHN-SMITH

Spring Airlines partners with Amadeus to
bolster international expansion
North Asia’s largest low-fare airline adopts Amadeus Ticketless Access to give travel agencies a more
efficient way to sell its content, as the airline targets international markets for higher growth.
Amadeus today announces a
partnership with Spring Airlines, North
Asia’s largest low-cost carrier, furthering
our commitment to power Chinese
travel companies global expansion.
At a time when airlines around the
world are scrambling to make inroads
into the Chinese air travel market – in
line to become the world’s largest in
two decades – Spring Airlines is setting
its sights on the international market
to accelerate growth. The Shanghaibased airline expanded its international
capacity by 165 per cent in the first
10 months of 2015, and capped off a
momentous year with an order for 60
new A320 aircraft.
Filling those aircraft will be critical,
and the airline is counting on the
travel agency channel to help it do
that. The partnership with Amadeus
will see Spring Airlines adopt Amadeus

Copenhagen Airports underlines commitment
to the cloud with major 10 year Amadeus
partnership
Landmark agreement, including both Kastrup and Roskilde airports, will provide IT foundation to
support Copenhagen’s vision to become the leading air transport hub for Northern Europe.
The airports will adopt a wide range of Amadeus solutions replacing their current Air Traffic
System, including a cloud-based AODB and RMS, hosted entirely off-site.
Copenhagen Airports, the company that
owns and operates the Copenhagen
airports of Kastrup and Roskilde, has
chosen Amadeus as a long-term IT
partner. This strategic partnership, in
which Amadeus will provide Copenhagen
Airports with next-generation cloudbased technology, will provide far
reaching benefits including an improved
operational performance and customer
experience.
The agreement will see nine Amadeus
solutions being implemented to
replace the current Air Traffic System,
transforming operations across a
diverse range of areas:
lAirport Collaborative Decision
Making Portal: enables all partners
at the airport such as airlines, ground
handlers and refueling companies to
access a common portal and consistent
operational information, thus greatly
improving operational efficiency and
situational awareness.
l Airport Operational Database
(AODB): acts as the central ‘brain’ for
the airport. The cloud-based AODB
will provide real-time, consistent and
timely information to all stakeholders
and systems. Copenhagen’s new AODB
will be hosted off-site, removing the
need for any local infrastructure. It will
be delivered as Software-as-a-Service
(SaaS) which by design simplifies IT
systems and reduces the complexities
of systems integration between siloed
stakeholders and data providers.
l Baggage Reconciliation System
(BRS): an innovative reconciliation
solution which matches real-time
passenger, flight and baggage data
from check-in until flight departure.
Moving to Amadeus’ BRS will enable
Copenhagen to retire three legacy BRS
systems and ensure 100% baggage
reconciliation.
These solutions are in addition to the
Amadeus Airport Fixed Resource
Management Solution (RMS), which
40

was developed jointly with Copenhagen
Airports, and deployed last year. With
an advanced method of capturing
stakeholder information, the cloudbased RMS offers the best possible
recommendations on how to allocate
fixed airport resources such as stands
and gates, thus enabling Copenhagen
to increase its capacity with a smaller
infrastructure investment.
Christian Poulsen, CIO and VP for
Assets & Technology at Copenhagen
Airports, describes the role IT plays in
supporting their strategic objectives: “We
have an ambitious vision to become a
world-class hub for Northern Europe.
Our objective is to grow from 25 to 40
million passengers per year, and as a
part of this focus we are optimising our
infrastructure to better help our airline
partners to serve the increasing number
of international routes and operations.
John Jarrell, Head of Airport IT at
Amadeus, said: “We look forward to
helping Copenhagen harness the power
of the cloud through this landmark
agreement. Airports around the world
are considering how new approaches to
technology can help increase capacity,
efficiency, the passenger experience and
open new revenue streams, whilst also
delivering more competitive services to

Lufthansa Group chooses Amadeus to deliver
new load control system
Lufthansa Group signs major framework contract for Amadeus Altéa Departure Control Flight
Management.
This new contract sees the Lufthansa Group adopt the full Amadeus Altéa Suite across its
network carriers.
Ensuring a stable and safe load control
– or in other words, that the weight
and balance of the aircraft is optimised
– is one of the main operational
challenges airlines face. Load control
plays a vital role in increasing
efficiency, on-time performance and
reducing fuel costs. And so with this in
mind, Lufthansa Group and Amadeus
have reached an agreement that
will see the group’s airlines adopt
Amadeus Altéa Departure Control Flight
Management, starting with Lufthansa,
Swiss International Air Lines, Brussels
Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo.
Amadeus Altéa Departure Control
Flight Management automates aircraft
load control and optimises every
flight departure by analysing the
passenger and cargo load, calculating
fuel requirements and defining the
optimal aircraft load distribution. Once
implemented across Lufthansa Group,
the system will optimise loads for the
group’s 3,000 daily flights.

Amadeus and LATAM renew partnership to
power international network expansion
Amadeus has reached an agreement
with LATAM Airlines Group S.A.
(“LATAM”) for global distribution
services. Opening new routes and
reaching partnership deals with other
fellow carriers is a big part of a
network expansion strategy, but it
is just as crucial to ensure that new
content is made available to the
widest possible customer base.
With the full content agreement in
place, travel agencies subscribed to
the Amadeus system will have access
to all of LATAM’s flights and other
services. Flight availability, pricing and
other conditions provided to Amadeus
travel agencies will be the same as
in other channels, including LATAM’s
website. Moreover, LATAM and
Amadeus have agreed to continuous
cooperation to accelerate LATAM’s
merchandising capabilities with
ancillary services to be made available
