DHWANI ACADEMY OF PERCUSSION MUSIC
INNERSIGHT :- Project For
Visually Challenged Underprivileged Music Students
Dhwani Academy of Percussion Music, (DAPM) is a non-profit charitable organization at Kolkata Indian and California, U.S.A.
helps the underprivileged & visually challenged kids & youths with the talent & aspirations to learn music. The academy
supports visually challenged students by teaching them Tabla free of cost, gives them scholarships, maintains instruments for
learning & presently taken the project of printing music notation books in Braille.
Dhwani Academy’s activities at Calcutta Blind School:
Dhwani Academy, India, teaches &
aids visually challenged students &
guide them to the world of culture
through Calcutta Blind School for
more than ten years. Besides that the
academy also runs classes at its own
premises.

back & continue to support from
academy’s own fund.
Calcutta Blind School is the oldest

Through academy’s voluntary work &
insistence the school authority has
included music into their regular
curriculum. The academy runs regular
classes starting from Class III to Class IX
and also provides instruments, maintain
them, give scholarships and arranges
teacher’s remuneration at Calcutta Blind
School

Dhwani Academy’s activities at academy’s own premises:
Besides working with Calcutta Blind
School, the academy also organizes
classes for the visually challenged under
privileged students at the academy’s
own premise. Currently we have eight
(8) visually challenged students
including junior & senior.

Activities of visually challenged students at Annual Concert:
Every year the academy gives
scholarships to best deserving talented
visually
challenged
students.
Additionally the academy further
encourages the students by providing
opportunities to share the stage with
stalwart artists at the Annual Concert.

Last year the academy gives six (6) scholarships to the most promising visually challenged students at the annual concert. The

The academy also published the first Braille Book available on Tabla notations named “INNERSIGHT” printed by Ramakrishna
Mission this year. The book was inaugurated by Mr. Anup Motilal (Director of EZCC). The book was published in three versions –
English, Bengali, and Hindi & has been liberally distributed among the visually challenged students.

The academy donated tanpura and Harmonium to Calcutta Blind School this year.

Presently the academy is looking to extend the scholarship programs, and expand the Braille system of learning music and
writing Indian musical notations.
