RACE RESULTS
TRAINERS’ NEWS
MOVING AWAY
GRAHAM MOTION
OAKLAWN – Her second start was a winning one
on St. Patrick’s Day. Breaking slowly from the
gate, she was well back down the backside, made a
huge move around the turn to be seven wide
coming into the stretch and powered away to win
by two – a little green in doing so. She appears to
come out of the race in good shape, according to
Donnie Von Hemel yesterday. We look forward to
bigger and brighter things for her in the future.
UPCOMING RACES
IF YOU SAY SO
TODAY – Scheduled to run in a one-mile turf
maiden at Tampa for Graham Motion. The filly has
worked very well at Palm Meadows and we look
forward to seeing her run this afternoon.
FICTIONALITY
SATURDAY – Scheduled to run in a six-furlong
allowance race at Oaklawn for Donnie Von Hemel.
She’s had rough trips in her last couple of starts,
but tomorrow she will get a new riding assignment
in Joe Rocco, Jr. This still looks like a competitive
allowance race, but hopefully the filly will show up
and run well.
VIEW FROM THE TOP
MAR 26 – Looking towards a one-mile turf
allowance at the Fair Grounds for Michael
Stidham. The filly is doing very well, training well
and is scheduled to have a little breeze this
weekend, and will get her chance against winners.

COWBOY CAL
INDIAN GUIDE won an allowance race at
Gulfstream Park on March 16, 1 1/8 mi. (T).
FEAR THE COWBOY finished 2nd in the
Borgata S. at Delta Downs on March 12, one mile.
BROODMARE NEWS
At Palm Meadows -- CONSCRIPTION breezed a
nice 5/8’s this week, getting ever closer and should
be ready to run mid-April or so.
MALCOLM PIERCE
At Palm Meadows – APHRODITE’S QUEST and
WHIMSICALITY are doing well. WHIMSICALITY is on a regular breezing schedule. With
everything going according to plan Malcolm will
ship north to Woodbine next Thursday, so they will
get a chance to readjust to the new Tapeta track at
Woodbine this spring/summer.
DONNIE VON HEMEL
At Oaklawn – POSEIDON’S WAY came out of his
race in good shape; probably see him run back in
the next week or so. We may even see him in for a
tag the next time. READY TO CONFESS had a
nice 5/8’s this past week and is getting closer to
getting back into the starting gate. SYNCHRONY
had a 1/2-mile breeze this week. All going well
with him and if his breezing stays on schedule then
he could look to run in the G3 Lexington S. here at
Keeneland. TELL ALL is doing well. She came
out of her race last week in good shape and we
have some decisions to make on her in the near
future. If she remains in training then we could try
to get her a start or two on the turf as both her halfsister, OVERHEARD, and her dam are stakes
winners on the turf. We have never tried this filly
on the grass, so it could be in her future.

Eastern Tent Caterpillar Hatch Begins
This year’s first observed hatch is seven days
earlier than 2015 per Lee Townsend, a University
of KY College of Ag entomologist. Tiny larvae
will continue to emerge over the next two weeks
from eggs laid last summer on wild cherry,
flowering cherry, apple and related trees.
Populations of eastern tent caterpillars have been
increasing steadily over the past 4-5 years and the
trend is likely to continue with locally high
numbers in some areas. Most horse farm owners
and managers will keep their eye out for them since
consumption of large numbers of the caterpillars by
pregnant mares precipitated staggering foal losses
in the Mare Reproductive Loss Syndrome outbreak
in 1999-2001. Townsend advises anyone with
pregnant mares to start monitoring their fence lines
in about 10 days. However, any nests seen at this
point should be destroyed properly before the
caterpillars begin wandering into vital fields.
Happy yearlings -- nothing like a roll in the mud!

EVERY MOMENT is jogging right now. DON’T
LEAVE ME is on a regular breezing schedule and
doing well. If all goes well, she will ship to
Woodbine next week. YOU’RE WELCOME is
jogging and will rejoin the Stidham barn at
Keeneland in mid April. The 2yos had some easy
breezes this past week. ARMAMENT is getting a
mini vacation for a chance to mature. BROKEN
PROMISE breezed a nice, easy 3/8’s and is doing
well. DANCE NIGHT breezed 3/8’s. QUIET SEA
breezed 3/8’s. Clifford has not spoken to Jane yet,
but we’re sure all three of these horses will get an
easy week or two, generally her protocol once they
breeze 3/8’s to get a little time to fill into their
frames. FULL OF ZIP is just galloping. MAKE
AMENDS and POINT SYSTEM breezed quarters,
as did YOU’RE MINE. SCIENCE FICTION had a
little temperature and was off over the last week or
two, so Jane is giving her a little easy time right
now to let her get over that.
