The City of Coffeyville, Kansas FIRE CHIEF Coffeyville, Kansas, located in scenic Southeast Kansas, is a progressive community with a strong industrial base and is best known for its friendly people, the Red Ravens, and the demise of the Dalton Gang in 1892. Coffeyville is the largest City in Montgomery County, Kansas, and influ‐
ences the area in terms of business, manufacturing and health care. US Highways 169 and 160 intersect within the city limits and the Union Pacific rail yard is located in the southern part of the City. Coffeyville is a reasonable driving distance to Wichita, Kansas City and Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Organiza on and Posi on
The City of Coffeyville operates under a City Commission/City Man‐
ager form of government and is a city of the 1st class. Coffeyville is a full service city providing police, fire, public works, water and wastewater treatment, electric genera on and distribu on and in‐
ternet services. The City has one hundred fi y‐five full‐ me employ‐
ees providing city services. The Coffeyville Fire Department is one of 11 Regional Hazmat Teams in Kansas and is responsible for a 12 county area. There are 19 fire personnel on staff, 17 are Hazmat Technician cer fied and 12 are EMT’s. The department provides fire suppression, preven on, and is equipped to respond to confined space, swi water and high an‐
gle rescue. The Fire Chief is responsible for nuisance/environmental code enforcement. Coffeyville currently has a 3 ISO Ra ng Achievement. Coffeyville Fire Department has mutual aid agreements with Montgom‐
ery County volunteer departments as well as automa c aid with the community of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma. Du es of this posi on include: 

Direct city‐wide fire preven on, suppression and inspec on pro‐
grams; develop and manage department goals, objec ves, poli‐
cies and priori es 
Oversee and par cipate in the development and administra on of the Fire Department budget; approve forecast of funds need‐
ed for staffing, equipment, materials and supplies. Current Projects: Plans finalized for construc on of new Police/Fire facility. Par cipate in development of equipment replacement policy Maintain and improve coopera ve effort with community college, nearby communi es, the county and state agencies. CANDIDATE PROFILE

A bachelor’s degree from a recognized accredited college or university with major course work in fire preven on technology, public administra on, business administra‐
on or related field preferred. Associates degree in Fire Science with addi onal work experience beyond ten years will be considered. 
Ten years of increasingly responsible fire opera ons and preven on experience including five years of upper level management, administra ve and supervisory responsibil‐
ity. 

ca ons and ICS training. The successful candidate for this posi on will be a person who under‐
stands and appreciates the challenges and opportuni es of managing a municipal department. The individual must be energe c, self‐
confident and comfortable dealing with complex issues. He/she must possess strong intellect, be sensi ve to both poli cal and public processes and have a proven track record as an effec ve leader. Candidate must be able to work together with employees and the public. The candidate must be willing to maintain a highly visible profile both with the community and the organiza on. An ability to make public presenta ons in a clear and credible manner is essen al. The individual will possess a demonstrated ability to nurture change in a posi ve manner. Must be willing to share informa on with de‐
partment staff members, provide resources and mentoring they need to achieve success and hold them accountable to high standards of performance. The Fire Chief will represent the City in a variety of regional forums and must have an impeccable reputa on for adherence to high ethi‐
