MAYSVILLE MONTHLY FEB2016.indd
A Community Update February 2016 Message from the Superintendent Winter in Ohio can be challenging due to snow and icy conditions leading to several days out of school. But, spring is around the corner and our students are back in the classroom and excited to learn. Currently we have missed 5 days of school. We are forgiven 5 so at this time we do not have any to make up. I am very pleased with the accomplishments of our students, not only in the classroom, but also in the many activities that they do outside of the classroom. Our students are achieving at high levels in the things that they do and I want to congratulate them for their success. I am very proud when I go to various meetings around the county and state and people are talking about what is happening at Maysville. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Maysville Local School District community for allowing me to serve as your superintendent. I will be stepping down at the end of the school year to pursue an opportunity in another school district. I feel confident that the successes will continue and the challenges will be conquered. Maysville has a special place in my heart and forever will be home to me. I wish Maysville only the best in the future and go PANTHERS. Reading Party! Mrs. Hartman’s kindergarten class and Mrs. Dixon’s fifth grade class got together for a dojo reward and had a reading party in Mrs. Dixon’s room! All of the children were in small groups and each took a turn reading a book to the others in the group. There were car books, Pete the Cat books, winter books and beginning reader books. All groups took turns reading all of the books and they enjoyed each one! When Mrs. Hartman’s class returned to their room, they brain stormed on how they could get Mrs. Dixon’s class to come to their class next – maybe a game afternoon! All of the children enjoyed their time together and look forward to getting together again! Hip, Hip Hooray to the Sparkle Students! The 4-H club had firefighters speak to their club and demonstrate how to put on their gear. Archery students are aiming straight and the Minute to Win It students are learning skills that increase their agility. Homework help is being provided for everyone to aide in academic growth. Learning and laughing is what we do best! The 21st Century Afterschool Program has expanded their classes once again for more opportunities for students. The new session began February 16th and will end March 17th. The Art Spirit class is giving students the opportunity to test their art skills and decorate our halls to boost school spirit. Another class allows the students to use their gaming skills with collectible cards. For those who like to read, a book club has been formed. The Mad Scientists are back at their wild experiments. For those students who need a little extra help dealing with the problems middle school students sometimes face, we are offering counseling with a Six County counselor. All of these classes and more are opened for new students till March 17th. After a 2 week break we will begin our last session on April 4th. During this session we will be offering more new options for students. Century National will be working with students on budgeting and they will be given the opportunity to open their own savings account as well. Katie Dodson from Fringe Salon will be working with students on grooming their hair, skin care, makeup and nails. Students will still be focusing on academics the first hour and relaxing with a variety of activities the second hour. Sign-ups can be done in the office, or with Mrs. Stall and Mrs. Duff. For construction the students got to paint with tools, build buildings with blocks and play doh, and pretend they were working at a construction site. Even some of the classes got to experience real construction happening by watching the workers build the new storage shed by our building. Valentine’s Day was an exciting time for the students. They got to invite some of their loved ones to come to school and take part in various activities. They got to play with slime, paint with heart shaped cookie cutters, make patterns with candy hearts, and pass out their valentines to their friends. They also got a chance to show off their Valentine’s Day boxes and bags that they worked so hard on at home and school. High School Students and Parents The theme for this year's yearbook is a "Journey". This year's senior class is the first group of students to go through all the new buildings on the Maysville Campus. The yearbook staff would like to create a timeline of memories and photos that began when the students were in kindergarten and run through their senior year. We not only need information and photos from seniors but freshmen, sophomores, and juniors as well. Announcements at school were made from November through January and we only netted approximately 12 photos. We desperately need your help! How can we make this easier? There is an app that is used with your cell phone in which you can send photos directly to the Balfour Publishing Company's Website. These photos go into an account the yearbook staff has access to. This free app is called Balfour Image Share. On an android phone go to the Play Store, and on the IPhone go to the App Store. Search for the Balfour Image Share app and install it. Once it is installed open the app. Enter your account details: School Project Number: 603095 (must be exact) Password: maysville (example-easy to remember) Full Name: john doe (example-your name goes here) Email: [email protected] (example- your email goes here) Phone Number: 740 252 1150 (example-your number goes here) Select proceed when the above information is filled out.
