T WA Ambassadors L A X Issue: 2016 -1 February Next Luncheon: Tuesday, 08 March 2016 Malarkey’s Irish Bar & Grill 168 North Marina Drive, Long Beach 11am Social Hour 12 Noon Spring Luncheon If You Take Our Hand We’ll Chase Your Dreams Across The Sky For We Can Fly Up Up And Away .. TWA Club Personnel: President: Terrie Masters Vice Presidents: Richard Jewell Kozi Kozachenko Secretary: Barbara Force Treasurers: Sam Medina Goodwin Turner Past President: Joan Burd Event Coordinators: Ted Engelbert Lorna Williams Webmaster & Newsletter: Paul Ellmore From Past President Joan Burd: The “Luck o’ the Irish” is with us! We will be welcoming and installing our new Board at this coming Luncheon at Malarkey’s Irish Pub in Long Beach. At the eleventh hour, at our Christmas luncheon (and after my emotional decision to disband), three members stepped up to accept piloting our LAX Chapter. Many thanks go to Terrie Masters for volunteering to be President, and Sam Medina and Goodwin Turner for taking on the role as Co-Treasurers. The current Board members, Richard Jewell, Kozy Kozachenko and Barbara Force, as well as Webmaster Paul Ellmore will continue in their roles, as will the volunteers who help so much. It keeps our club alive for another year. Come join us to welcome them aboard and wish them a smooth flight! The coats, jackets and toiletries collected at the Christmas Luncheon were delivered to the L A Mission on Skid Row by Norm and myself shortly after the Luncheon. It was an eye-opening experience. Very sobering; but very rewarding. “YOU” donated three bags and two boxes of clothing which totaled 175 pounds. Also collected were three bags full of toiletries exceeding 40 pounds. The Mission was very grateful and all will be distributed to the homeless who are facing a cold and rainy winter. In case you missed it, we had a fantastic luncheon in the Crystal Ballroom at the Double Tree Hotel on Dec 7. The hotel staff said it was one of the most festive get togethers they had seen, with the TWA red and white, lovely Christmas tree centerpieces and a “jillion” door prizes. Mary Christine outdid herself and many members also brought gifts. Loretta Roberts, once again, made two $100 money wreaths for a members only drawing. It got a little chaotic at check-in when some people's checks/reservations hadn't arrived but Lorna and Mori soldiered through and got all 158 attendees checked in and directed to the photo booth. TWAer Manny Cantone and his wife, Linda provided the booth and everyone who wanted one, got a charming picture remembrance of TWA and 2015 compliments of the club. Many thanks to them. Pictures are on the website now. We welcomed 27 guests and obtained two new members….Christine Pitt and Robert Korwan. Werner Strauss and Brenda Howard each won $185.00 and Terre Lee Hohman and Greg Carrizzo won the $100 wreaths. Congrats to all. From Our Current President: Terrie Masters Some of you reading this worked side by side with me at LAXRES. I was part of the TWA family from 4/11/55 to 1/1/84. I can share many stories with you, and at times will. Others know me from Golf and/or Skiing, as I was very active in both. I have a photo of me at a TWA Golf Tournament wearing a full cast on my left leg, putting on crutches. I know you did not vote for me, but now I’m representing the LAX Ambassadors. In that capacity I am to participate in organizing events for the year. I did say participate, as I believe these events are for the TWA Family, and that means all of you. I invite you to contact me with suggestions for activities we may offer to the group at large. These will be presented to the Board Members and discussed for possible inclusion. Please, also let me know if you wish to join the board … Why not? Joan Burd leaves very large shoes for us to fill. Again, I say us. This is not a one person show. Without active input there is no way to know what you want, and yes you do have a voice. There will be some changes and more options. Side trips between our four Luncheons, such as a trip to the Races and free Concerts, will be planned for this Summer.
