Dear Friends,
This has been a busy, very enjoyable year for me since I was sworn in at the April 2 Spring Luncheon at Brennan’s. With my
birthday on the 5th, I’m always going to think of this luncheon as a birthday celebration.
Thank you so much, Board members, for serving on the Board. I feel so very blessed to be in this organization with such a special
group of friends! We have everything filled except President-Elect, Social Chairman, and Cooking Classes Chair, although we have
one Cooking Class filled.
On May 1 the Jaworski Luncheon planning meeting took place at Sandy Norris’ lovely home, so they are up and running.
Hazel Donato hosted the New/Old Board meeting at her beautiful home on May 14. It was well attended, and everyone is right on
top of her job. Notebooks were passed out, but not everyone was there, so I have them for the rest of the Board. The luncheon that
followed was delicious.
On May 16 we enjoyed the lovely annual HBA/HBAA dinner at the River Oaks Country Club where the new HBA president, David
Chaumette, was sworn in.
Diane Lee and I met with Maureen Alsup at Maureen’s house on June 3 to discuss our budget and go to Compass Bank to sign their
cards.
A nice group turned out on June 10 and 11 to add personal notes to the membership letters and stuff envelopes at Debbie Jones’
house. This made the invitations to join the HBAA so personal. Debbie also served a delicious lunch.
Ansley Buttram went to the HBA Retreat in the Austin area in June. What a gracious volunteer trip!
Kathy Redden, the incoming President of the Texas Lawyers’ Association, went to their retreat in Dallas in June, as did our VicePresident, Sherryl Durkee, and Jane Larkin, our Jaworski Luncheon Advisor. Thank you, ladies, so much!
Please plan on the next Board meetings. On September 10, Wendy Dawson will host our next one. She lives at 11518 Shadow Way
Street, 77024. On January 14 Diane Lee will host our meeting at her home at 3752 Robinhood, 77005. We can’t thank them
enough for having our group. We look forward to these two meetings.
Other upcoming events that we have the dates for are the Fall Coffee at Phoebe Tudor’s house at 1405 South Boulevard, 77006 on
October 7 and the Jaworski Luncheon on March 4.
The Harvest Party date is November 18.
I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to this year as your President! Please pass on any suggestions you have for me. And
I especially invite the membership to take part in our most enjoyable and rewarding activities. You will be much appreciated, and
we would love for you to bring a friend. See you soon!

2013 Scholarship Recipients
Presented at Spring Luncheon, April 2013.
At the spring luncheon held in April, Phyllis Dent, representing the Houston Bar Association Auxiliary Charitable Fund,
presented the scholarship recipients for 2013: Kelly Rae
Farrell attends the University of Houston Law Center where
she is in the top 10% of the class. She is the Senior Notes
and Comments Editor of Houston Law Review.
Jason Hanna attends South Texas College of Law where he
is in the top 5% of his class. He has interned with the 1st
Court of Appeals, the bankruptcy court, and the Hays County
DA’s office.
Amir Tavakkoli attends Thurgood Marshall School of Law
where he is in the top 10% of the class. He was the Associate Editor and now is Research Editor on Law Review.
