2014 REPORT TO T H E C O M M U N I T Y At Teche Regional Medical Center, our goal is to deliver the best healthcare available to the residents of St. Mary Parish as we seek to make our community healthier. With the help of dedicated physicians, employees, volunteers and board members, along with your continued support and encouragement, we continue our passionate pursuit of excellence. Butch Fraizer, CEO Teche Regional Medical Center Delivering quality healthcare close to home is the single most important contribution we make. But there are many other ways we make a positive impact on the communities we serve. Here are a few of the ways we are making a difference. More than $1.5 million in capital improvements In 2014, Teche Regional spent approximately $804,000 on new equipment and facility updates. The hospital purchased a new ultrasound unit and wireless digital X-ray, making our Radiology Department entirely digital. We also purchased a chemistry analyzer and completely new telemetry system, just to name a few. In fact, we invested $1,511,301 in our facilities last year which, in addition to the above, included technology replacement, information technology additions/updates, and important facility upkeep and maintenance. Contributing to our local tax base Last year, Teche Regional Medical Center paid $426,833 in taxes which helped support our city, county and state. This included state and local sales taxes as well as property taxes. These dollars help maintain local schools, fund the development of roads, recruit business and industry, and provide other similar services vital to support and sustain a thriving economy. Helping those in need Teche Regional Medical Center is committed to ensuring the delivery of needed healthcare to all members of the community, regardless of their ability to pay. Last year, the cost to Teche Regional Medical Center was more than $4.3 million to provide services for those without the ability to pay for their care. Adding new physicians During the past year, Teche Regional Medical Center added Nicholas Sells, MD, an infectious disease and internal medicine physician with Atchafalaya Internal Medicine Associates to our highly respected medical staff. Dr. Sells graduated from the Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN. He received his medical degree from Medical University of the Americas, Charlestown, Nevis, West Indies. In addition, he completed his internal medicine residency at Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center in Houma, LA, before completing a fellowship in infectious disease at University of Mississippi Medical Center. One of our community’s major employers With an annual payroll of $18,424,828 and an average of 290 employees, Teche Regional Medical Center is one of the largest employers in the region. This means that our staff and family members attend many of the same schools, shop at the same stores and volunteer their time and resources for the same organizations as you do. We thank you for choosing us for your healthcare needs. With your support, we can continue making our community healthier. 1125 Marguerite Street • Morgan City, Louisiana 70380 • (985) 384-2200 • TecheRegional.com 2014 REPORT TO T H E C O M M U N I T Y COMMUNITY BENEFIT REPORT Charity and other uncompensated care...........................................................................................$ 4,348,542 Includes unpaid cost of Medicaid as well as charity care and other uncompensated care Board of Trustees 2014 – 2015 OFFICERS Larry Callais, Chairman President of MC Bank MEMBERS Tomas Birriel, MD General Surgeon Buffy Fegenbush Principal, Berwick High School Butch Frazier CEO, Teche Regional Medical Center Mary Hartman Retired, St. Mary Parish School System Community benefit programs......................................................................................................................$1,282,107 Financial contributions.......................................................................................... $63,687 Professional development.................................................................................. $ 77,012 Physician recruitment............................................................................................ $ 1,141,408 Taxes paid.............................................................................................................................................................................$426,833 Property and other taxes................................................................................... $98,833 State sales tax.............................................................................................................. $108,978 Local sales tax............................................................................................................. $219,022 2014 TOTAL......................................................................................................................$ 6,057,482 SPONSORSHIPS AND DONATIONS Teche Regional Medical Center and our employees are pleased to have been able to support the following activities and organizations during the past year. • All area schools and universities • Miles Liner Foundation • American Cancer Society • Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy • American Diabetes Association • Safe Sitter Program • American Heart Association • SMIG (St. Mary Industrial Group) • API (American Petroleum Institute) • St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital David Naquin Retired, Sheriff • Autism Society • St. Mary AARP • Boy Scouts of America • St. Mary Parish Chamber of Commerce Scott Thomas Intermoor • Cajun Coast Visitors & Convention Bureau • St. Mary Parish Community Foundation Kimberly Thorguson, MD Pediatrician, The Pediatric Clinic • Camp Pelican for Pulmonary Disease • St. Mary Parish DARE program • Girl Scouts of America • St. Mary Parish Kiwanis Club • Junior Auxiliary of East St. Mary • St. Mary Parish Ministerial Alliance —Number of employees 290 • Leadership St. Mary • St. Mary Parish Rotary Club • Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival • United Way —Annual payroll nearly $18.5 million • Louisiana State Trooper Association Tim Hebert Agent, New York Life Insurance Erica Menina, MD Pediatrician, The Pediatric Clinic Donna Meyer St. Mary Chamber of Commerce — Facility investment $1.5 million + Teche Regional Medical Center is part of LifePoint Health, a leading healthcare company dedicated to Making Communities Healthier ®.
