Stars of Tomorrow
The Kiwanis Club of Fort Collins and Greeley held the first “Stars of Tomorrow”
show more than 60 years ago. In 1946, after many other clubs sponsored shows
throughout the area, the “Stars of Tomorrow” became a permanent Kiwanis
project.
Master of
Ceremonies
Today, “Stars of Tomorrow” is a national and internationally recognized youth
talent competition. Nationally/Internationally known folk singer Judy Collins
and classical violinist Eugene Fodor have won past Colorado “Stars of Tomorrow” competitions.
Recent, Fort Collins winners have included Leenya Rideout and her brother Vale
who are gaining recognition in New York and around the world for their vocal
performances. One of our Fort Collins winners, Heidi Basgall, was an invited
guest to perform at a past Kiwanis international convention in Dallas, Texas. The
then First Lady, Nancy Reagan, was in attendance. Mrs. Reagan invited Heidi to
meet her personally.
The “Stars of Tomorrow” program was designed to give elementary, junior high
and senior high school students an opportunity to perform before a live audience. Tonight’s performance began weeks and months ago, as the young people
on stage tonight practiced and prepared to entertain you. They auditioned
several weeks ago and were selected from an exceptionally talented group of
applicants.
Proceeds Benefit
Proceeds from tonight’s show will be split to benefit The Kayla Foundation and
the Fort Collins Kiwanis Club.
The Kayla Foundation, a Fund of The Community Foundation of Northern
Colorado provides support to Poudre School District students, with financial
needs, who wish to more fully participate in their school’s music programs. This
is accomplished through the purchase or rental of uniforms or performance attire; fees / tickets for music retreats, field trips and special opportunity events;
instrument rental fees and basic instrument supplies; or private music lessons.
The Foundation also supports and other local non-profit organizations that
focus on the needs of children and young adults, with developing or enhancing
their music programs.

Gabriella Morisano
Elementary
Francesca Morisano, Gabriella Morisano, Piper Northburg and Sithumi Sinley represent some of the youngest
members of Canyon Concert’s Youth Ensemble. They study ballet, jazz and hip-hop at Canyon Concert Ballet and
Dance Center. Francesca and Gabriella attend McGraw Elementary while Piper attends Zach Elementary and Sithumi, Liberty Common. These talented young dancers have attended dance conventions and competitions and have
entertained countless audience members and judges with their dedication to “being despicable”.
Austin was born in Austin, Texas, but is currently a resident of
Fort Collins, Colorado. At age 11, he enjoys Tae Kwon Do, writing
songs, dancing, and acting. Performing with his friends in Neon
3 has been awesome! Austin attends Werner Elementary, and
loves singing in the Werner Jazz Cats Choir.
Although Virginia born, Krista is Colorado grown. She attends
Werner Elementary School where she enjoys taking part in the
Jazz Cats Choir. The piano has been Krista’s instrument of choice
for 4 years. Combining singing and playing the piano with her
friends in Neon 3 has been a great ride! Rumor has it that Neon
3 has a bright future!
Cole is a native of Fort Collins and is in 5th grade at Werner
Elementary. He enjoys swimming, skiing, singing, and reading.
He also enjoys participating in the Werner Jazz Cats Choir. He and
his friends were excited when they found the talent show flyer
the day before the registration deadline. They thought it was
fate and decided to form Neon 3.
Nathan is 10 years old and a fifth grader at Ridgeview Classical Schools.
He has played fiddle for 4 years before practicing classical violin and was a
state fiddle champion and took second place in his age group in the 2010
national fiddle contest in Wiser, ID.
He is also a 1st degree black belt of the Songahm Taekwondo and was the
2011 state champion in sparring, form, and weapon in his age group.
Nathan Sima
Elementary
On the side, Nathan also plays chess and participates in the Poudre School
District spelling bee contest.
We are so excited to be in our very first talent competition! Our names are
Anya and Mila Tkachenko, and we are 11 year old twin sisters, who attend
5th grade at Werner Elementary School. One of our favorite things to do is
DANCE, which we have been doing since the age of five with the High Country
Conservatory of Dance here in Fort Collins. For the past year now we have
been having fun traveling to different states on a Competition Clogging
Team which is exciting and gives us a chance to travel to some fun places and
perform in front of people. We have even danced at Disneyland and plan on
returning there for a repeat performance with the Clogging Show Team this
fall. Thankfully we love to clog as all of the practices have not left time for too
many other activities. We do find time to do Track and Field in the summer,
mountain bike, ski, swim and have recently taken up ballet and hip hop! And
there is always time for friends! Auditioning for Stars of Tomorrow was so
exciting for us because we love to clog and the high energy and sounds that
this dance creates always makes people smile. It is wonderful to see peoples
faces when we start to clog!!

Elementary
Natalie has always had a love and inherent gift for music and performance,
taking after her Great-Great Grandmother who played piano for the silent
films in the Roaring Twenties. She began formal piano lessons in the Gorely Music Studio in 2010, and soon began to draw local recognition for her
developing talent, including a Musicianship Award, high marks in the
Ft. Collins MTS Student Achievement Day, and a Top Performer Award at the
2011 Ft. Collins/Loveland MTA Bartok Festival. Natalie’s talents are solicited
regularly by her elementary school for various student performance functions. In the coming school year she plans to add the cello to her growing
musical repertoire. Beyond music, Natalie enjoys singing, dancing, drawing,
reading, creative writing, science, and just the simple joys of a fun-loving
kid—hiking, sledding, acting silly with her two brothers and playing with
the family pets. She loves to share her joy of music with others, and is honored and excited for the opportunity to perform in her first talent show.
Ally, a 4th grader at Bennett IB World School, loves singing more than
anything in the world! In addition to professional coaching, Ally practices her craft while cleaning her room, doing her homework, watching
TV, driving in the car, and playing outside. When she’s not singing, she
enjoys any type of craft project, drawing, reading, and playing with her
friends. Stars of Tomorrow is her first show and she both nervous and
excited about performing.
Anya & Mila Tkachenko
Elementary
Victoria, a 4th grader in Estes Park, and Ally are BFF’s and have loved
every second of rehearsing together. Victoria inherited her talent and
strength from a musical and supportive family. She is very excited to
be participating in the Stars of Tomorrow!

Bella has been dancing since the age of four. She studies ballet, jazz, lyrical,
modern and musical theatre at Canyon Concert Ballet and Dance Center.
Bella is a soloist with Canyon Concert’s Youth Ensemble and has been awarded
first place in the mini solo division at the prestigious CoDance Competition.
She has also been selected for talent based scholarships at dance
conventions multiple years in a row. When not at the studio, Bella attends
Zach Elementary.
Bella Northburg
Elementary
Max, 13, has been expressing himself through music since receiving his first
guitar as a toddler. He has enjoyed both self-study and formal lessons over
the past 5 years. Currently an 8th grader at Lincoln IB Middle School, his first
public performances were on the Dunn Elementary School stage with his
band The Gremlins. The Gremlins went on to win the 2010 Youth in the Spotlight competition and continue to play public and private venues throughout
Fort Collins. Their sound is a blend of rock and blues. At school, he is involved
with jazz band and orchestra (string bass). He has participated in district
honor band and orchestra. Max has involved himself with extra-curricular
music opportunities including Lincoln House Band, Lincoln Jam, and Nuova
Musica Project. Max usually has an instrument in his hands, but when he puts
it down he can be found eating chocolate, working on his black belt in Karate
or writing songs. Max is inspired by his musical journey and proud that the
Stars of Tomorrow competition is one of the stops along the way. He hopes
you enjoy his original song Soar.
Hello, my name is Tayler Hughes and one of my passions is Tae Kwon Do. I
have been involved for 5 years and my next test will be for my Black Belt.
Chet Barnett is my instructor and a great role model. The group we have is like
family, when you fall they are always there to pick you back up.
Tayler Hughes
Middle School
I enjoy working with all my friends and teammates on self-defense. My
favorite thing to do in the studio is staff work and weapons training. I get
many questions on how I don’t hit myself when I’m moving the staff around
at that speed. Well… the answer is I do it right and yes, occasionally I do hit
myself and yes, it does hurt! The more that you practice the better you get
and I hope to work with others teaching Tae Kwon Do someday.
I have always have been told “be positive, be proud and be persistent.”
Anna Cherian
Middle School
Anna is 11 years old and is in 6th grade at Webber Middle School. She began
dancing at 3 years of age. She dances many different styles including: lyrical, ballet, jazz, and contemporary. For the recent Nutcracker production at
the Lincoln Center, she had the chance to be the Arabian soloist. Anna also
has been a mouse, a penguin, a snowflake, and a flower in different ballets
productions. She performed as a monkey in the State Street Ballet Jungle
Book, and also danced for the CSU Opera as a fairy in their production of
Falstaff. Anna also plays the piano and flute and loves to act. Anna is excited
to be competing in Kiwanis/ Stars of tomorrow this year. Anna also just competed in the Youth American Grand Prix competition in Denver. In class she
is a leader and she loves to help anyone who needs it. Anna would love to
become a professional dancer. She gets inspiration from her dance teacher
Polly Creer Sutton.

Warren started playing violin when he was 6 years old. He is a concertmaster in Symphony Orchestra of Preston Middle School. He is so energetic and
curious; he likes learning new things. In his free time, he enjoys playing
basketball, golf and soccer. He plans on pursuing a career in science or engineering but he also wants to be a good violinist who can play beautiful music
for people to enjoy.

Jimmy is 14 years old and the second of 7 children. He enjoys being homeschooled where he has the freedom to pursue his musical interests such
as classical piano, jazz and contemporary music as well as writing his own
compositions. One year ago, on YouTube, Jimmy discovered a Detroit “boogie
woogie” artist and fell in love with the sound. He has been taking lessons via
Skype from the artist, Matthew Ball. He also learns classical and theory, for
which he has a great love, from a local piano teacher. Jimmy has also joined
a band of four other kids his age where they are being trained and mentored
to lead contemporary worship music. Over the past six months, he has
pursued other instruments such as acoustic and electric guitar, and
harmonica. Recently, Jimmy has been playing around town and at
Rigden Farms Retirement Home, earning money for a mission trip to a Nepali
orphanage. Besides music Jimmy enjoys studying Mixed Martial Arts, swimming, snowboarding, and acting.

Jordan, 17, is a senior at Rocky Mountain High School. She sports a true
passion for music, and especially voice. Growing up in Fort Collins, she took
advantage of the many cello, piano, singing and acting opportunities in the
community, thanks to her extraordinary instructors. This is Jordan’s fifth and
final year to try out for the Stars of Tomorrow, making it to the finals 2 years
ago. Beyond music, Jordan enjoys skiing, running, reading and everything
associated with the Lord of the Rings. She’s heading to college next fall,
where she hopes to study pre-law.
Emily is a 6th grader at Webber Middle School. Dance has been her passion
since the age of three. She has been a part of Studio West Dance Center for
7 years and has been a member of their junior and now preteen ensemble
dance team for the last 5, where she met her duet partner, Kayla. She has
performed with her ensemble team in national dance competitions in Los
Angeles and Miami. In the future, Emily sees herself pursuing her passion for
dance and someday performing on Broadway.
Kayla is an 8th grader at Webber Middle School and has been dancing for 5
years. She recently participated in dance nationals in Miami with her competition team. She is thrilled to be a competitive dancer for Studio West Dance
Center and loves all the friends she has met. She also enjoys Yearbook class
and reading as much as she can. She hopes to continue dancing and one day
have a career in fashion or dancing. She is very grateful to be participating in
a show like Stars of Tomorrow.

Shannon Kate, is thrilled to be from a community that embraces musicians of
all ages and has supported and encouraged her musical gifts. She has been
under the guitar instruction of Jan Dyer since the age of 7, and has a passion
for music that resonates deep in her soul. Her eclectic style and musical influences include her family, Jewel, Patsy Cline, Stevie Nicks, Christina Aguilera,
Taylor Swift, and Jenn Bostic. At age 13, Shannon has been blessed to be a
part of local Ft. Collins Rhythms of Youth, has appeared on PSD channel 10,
and KRFC 88.9 local radio many times. Shannon began performing at Spotlight Music Café at age 11 and continues to play at local venues whenever she
gets the opportunity. She is very excited to perform at the Lincoln Center for
the first time. Shannon would like to thank her family and all of the local
musicians that continue to support her, and is thankful to God who blesses
her every day.
Sadie, 18, and Mary Sue’s, 15, musical journey began at home, singing
and playing instruments with friends and family. Early on, they began
piano lessons with their grandmother. Home-schooled during the
elementary years, the girls received their initial vocal training from Centennial Children’s Chorus. In 2009, the girls moved to Natuvu, Fiji where
they started performing as part of a Generation Y Christian outreach. This
laid the groundwork for their return to Fort Collins, where they joined a
local church band. Mentored by a local worship director, Sadie and Mary
Sue have been blessed with numerous opportunities to exercise faith
through music. These Rocky Mountain High School students now receive
vocal training at Magnolia Music Studio. They have won several musical
honors and continue to play at different venues. Both girls are excited to
have the privilege of playing at Stars of Tomorrow!

In addition to performing at open mic nights whenever and wherever he can,
Jared has participated on KRFC radio shows as well as the Radio Rhythms
television show produced jointly by Poudre School District and KRFC. Jared
sings and plays many musical instruments including guitar, bass, piano,

One of Jared’s favorite activities is to “jam” with fellow musicians such as the
other band members of the two bands he plays in, “Blue Taboo” and “High
Altitude”. He is extremely thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the
Stars show in 2012!
Keaton and Rachel shared the stage at Webber last May in the musical theater production, “Into the Woods.” At Webber, Keaton played clarinet and

also played guitar in the jazz band for two years. He has enjoyed music since
a young age, first with piano lessons, adding guitar lessons in 4th grade. He

added many other instruments to her repertoire. She played saxophone
in band and has sung in school and church choirs since preschool. She and
Keaton Nalezny had the lead roles in the musical “Into the Woods” last year.
She was awarded “Outstanding Choir Member” and “Outstanding Jazz Band
Member” in 2011. Rachel plays Lacrosse, skis and writes music. She plans to
be a Highschool Choir and Musical Theater teacher. Music is her joy!
Kira Pratt: Born and raised in Fort Collins, Kira fell in love with the guitar
four years ago when her grandparents gave her one as a Christmas gift. She
has been taking private lessons since then, and now has two guitars including Luna, the white guitar -- a gift from her parents -- which she will perform
with tonight. Kira is a freshman at Rocky Mountain High School and is on the
honor roll with a 4.0 GPA. In addition to the guitar, she is quite accomplished
at the alto saxophone and is a member of the Symphonic Band. She loves
music and enjoys performing at open mic nights and special events for family

Sidney Dungan, Bella Lee and Natalie Weaver are all members of
Canyon Concert’s Hype Motion Competition Troupe. All three ladies

sadly be the final time Sidney will dance on stage. She goes into
surgery next week to correct a genetic ankle problem that will prevent her from dancing into the future.
Tessa is a junior at Poudre High School and a dedicated member of Canyon
Concert’s Hype Motion Competition troupe. She has attended numerous
dance conventions, intensives and competitions as well as spending countless hours in the studio fine-tuning her craft. Tessa started dancing at the

as Foo Fighters, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, My Chemical
Romance, and many others. Just Another Day has played
several shows in front of large crowds of people. They

Samantha, a sophomore at Poudre High School, has been singing and dancing
since she was four years old. A daily volunteer at The Boys & Girls Club of Fort
Collins, she enjoys teaching and sharing her art other kids. In the future,
she aspires to be a dance instructor and attends all the free workshops and
lessons she can find. Samantha is thankful to be the recipient of a Stars of
Tomorrow scholarship program because it meant that she had a private
instructor for four sessions. She plans to continue working on her craft and
teaching at The Boys & Girls Club, and hopes to earn a scholarship for college
in order to achieve her dream of becoming a dance instructor.
