Transitions - Orientation and Transition Programs
Colorado State University Transfer Student Newsletter TRANSFORM Transitions Living in an environment that is different from your own can be both an exciting adventure and a challenging process. I can clearly remember how I gradually adapted myself to the American academic and life style last year. It took me a while for me to find where I fit, and I’m still adjusting right now. Transitioning to CSU can seem overwhelming, whether you are transferring here from somewhere in Colorado or halfway across the globe from China. During this transition process, I think getting connected plays the most important role in helping you feel comfortable on campus. My way to get connected with CSU, with Fort Collins, even with America, was to be a transfer mentor. Thanks to this job, I have had a fantastic transition experience in CSU. As an international student, I was totally unfamiliar with everything here when I first came to campus. Being a transfer mentor helps me improve my language skills, further my academic studies, and experience a new culture and social environment on a daily basis. Continue reading on Page 3... Meet Mazen! He grew up in Syria, moved to Qatar, and now currently lives in Fort Collins. Mazen is one of our spring start transfer students that is not only adapting to a new university, but a new country as well. In order to make the transition smoother, Mazen has gotten involved with our transfer program events, international communities, the transfer communities, and the Braiden transfer floor community. His favorite event so far was the carnival in the Durelll Center — at which he swept the poker and Texas Hold ‘em table. So far, Mazen said his favorite thing about CSU is “how welcoming and friendly everyone is!” By Lucy Skrobacz Resources: Contact our office at (970) 491-6011 or [email protected]! By Xiangqian (Cici) Xu Welcome Home! Fort Collins is the beautiful town Colorado State students call home. Learn more about this awesome little town and its recreational activities and attractions at www.visitftcollins.com. Eat, drink and be happy! In Fort Collins, every aspect of your life could be involved with food somehow: a night out on the town with your friends, a date night with your significant other, or even just healthy food choices to achieve your fitness goals. No matter if you like sushi, steak, or a cinnamon roll the size of a softball, Fort Collins restaurants will make your mouth water and satisfy your stomach. And remember the beer in Fort Collins is world class! Downtown offers a wide range of options, from pizza to a quick healthy lunch, fine dining to delicate cafes. Standing at the intersection of College and Olive St, the heart of Fort Collins, you can walk five blocks in any direction and find something to satisfy your appetite and your wallet. Here is my recommendation list for some popular restaurants; but always be on the lookout for more! Cuisines from around the world are represented in restaurants throughout the city, so grab a fork or a pair of chopsticks to begin exploring Fort Collins' food and fun!
