The 2008 Show Committee, which is comprised of an ad hoc committee of Samoyed fanciers, is putting together another National which promises to be as exciting as the 2004 National held in the Land of Oz. Dogs must be removed from the show site before 10:00 pm on October 4, 2008. • Grooming area will be next to the rings inside of the Exhibition Hall. • RESERVED GROOMING SPACE WILL BE AVAILABLE. Please use the Reserved Grooming Form on Page 17 of this booklet if you wish to reserve space.. • Please clean up after your dog. • Please keep your grooming area clean! Dog hair should be placed in a bag or trash receptacle. Do not leave hair on the floor. • Do not leave barking dogs in grooming area. Excessive barking could become a distraction to dogs in the ring. • The Host Committee will work closely with the Capitol Plaza Hotel staff, Expocentre staff and the Event Committee to enforce the above regulations. The Event Committee will take prompt and decisive action against rule violators. Depending upon the severity of misconduct, disciplinary actions may include charges against SCA members filed with the SCA Board of Governors or charges under American Kennel Club rules, which would be handled by the Event Committee acting as a Trial Board under the authority of the AKC. • The Capitol Plaza Hotel , the Kansas Expocentre and the Event Committee reserve the privilege of enacting additional rules as situations arise. • There will also be non-reserved grooming space which will be available on a first-come, firstserved basis. Sorry, no saving of spaces will be permitted. • Electricity is available for both reserved and non-reserved grooming areas. • The conformation events, and parades will be held in a climate-controlled Exhibition Hall on a concrete floor. Agility will be held in the R. R. Domer Livestock Arena, which is on site behind the Exhibition Hall. Obedience & Rally trials will be held in the Exhibition Hall. Weight pulling will be held on-site. Herding Tests/Trials will be held in Cameron, MO. Directions to the Show Site • Absolutely NO SMOKING will be permitted in the Exhibition Hall. FROM EAST OR WEST ON I-70: • Doors will be locked at 9:00 pm each night and will be opened at 6:00 am each morning. The SCA will not assume any responsibility regarding loss, injury or theft of dogs or equipment left unattended. Exit at 8th Street and go West on 8th (5-6 blocks) to Topeka Boulevard. South on Topeka (10 blocks) to Show Site. • No exercise pens will be allowed in the Exhibition Hall, including the grooming areas. • Baby strollers are not allowed in the Exhibition Hall. • ALL UNLOADING SHOULD BE DONE AT THE WEST LOADING DOCK ONLY. No crates or equipment will be allowed through the East entrance. • No parking allowed on the West side of the building. • Banners are welcome, but must have grommet holes for hanging purposes. • Dogs must be kept on lead at all times. • All aisles must be kept clear of equipment, etc. at all times. Dogs will be judged by three different judges — a Working Group Judge, a Samoyed Breeder/Judge, and a Samoyed Handler. Judges will be announced on the evening of the Top 20 competition. Deadline - September 1, 2008 Come One, Come All and see how your Samoyeds react to sheep! W e'll guarantee they'll all have big grins on their faces. What a way to start the 2008 Nationals! Scheduling will be done so those entering the novice weight pull will have no trouble doing so. The herding will be held this year at the Reality Canine Center in Cameron, MO. Approximately 2 hours from the Expocentre. I-35 North to Exit #54, go 3 miles west on Hwy 36, turn left (south) onto O’Connell Road (which is directly across from Hwy C), go 1.8 miles and ranch is on the left. There are motels close to the herding site if you wish to stay close on Sunday night on your way to Topeka. Dog friendly motels: Best Western @ 816-632-2187, Super 8 @ 816-632-8888. We will be running AHBA tests on Monday, September 29, 2008. First and second legs will be available. Both the HCT (Herding Capability Test) and JHD (Junior Herding Dog) will be offered. We will be holding a morning test and an early afternoon (or late morning) test, so dogs can try for both legs in one day. Remember the first leg of the HCT earns your dog 100 working points and the second HCT leg earns your dog another 100 working points towards the SCA Working Title. Cost will be: HCT or JHD - $35.00. The cost will include the qualifying fee of $2.50 required by AHBA. Limit: 50 total runs for the day. Qualifying rosettes and awards (for qualifying and for earning a title) will be offered by HTCH Jake and his owners or through generous donations. If you would like to make a donation towards rosettes or awards, please send it directly to Ann & Jan Schlobohm, made out to SCA 2008. Those passing the first leg of the HCT will receive a beautiful certificate from SCA. Those passing both legs of the HCT or JHD will receive a certificate and title directly from AHBA. I further agree that I will hold the AHBA, SCA, their officers, directors, agents and members, and/or Sug Fridley & Bridget Fridley & Reality Canine Center, harmless and defend them from any and all liability for any injury, claim, damage or loss, of whatever kind or nature, whether to person or property, caused at or near this event, whether directly or indirectly, by me or any dog I have entered in or brought to this event. I agree to indemnify the AHBA, SCA, their officers, directors, agents and members, and/or Sug Fridley & Bridget Fridley & Reality Canine Center, for any loss, cost or expense including attorneys fees and costs, to which they might be subject as a result of any claim, suit, loss or damage caused in any way by any act or negligence on my part or on the part of any dog or dogs I have entered in or brought to this event. I certify and represent that the dog or dogs I have entered in or brought to this event is/are not a hazard to other dogs, other animals, or to people. I understand that Reality Canine Center is not responsible for total or partial acts, occurrences, or elements of nature that can scare an animal, cause it to bite, or react in some other unsafe way. Some examples include: thunder, lightening, rain, wind, water, and wild and other domestic animals insects, or reptiles which may walk, run, fly near, bite sting, or otherwise threaten or scare an animal or person, irregular footing on out-of-door groomed or wild land which is subject to constant changes in conditions according to weather, temperature, and natural and man-made changes in landscape. I understand that the premises upon which this activity will take place may contain tripping or falling hazards, and I assume responsibility for examining the premises to ensure that they are acceptable. By participating in the activity, I acknowledge that I have performed such an examination and found the premises to be in safe condition. I agree that should emergency medical treatment be required, I and/or my own accident/medical insurance company will pay for all such incurred expenses. A plywood cutout of a “generic” Samoyed has been created for this activity. It is approximately 16” x 16” x ½” in size. To enter, purchase an "ungroomed" wooden dog cut-out from the 08 National's Samoyed Store (www.samoyedstore.com) at the "Decorated Dog" merchandise link. Decorate the cutout with your own special flair, then bring it to the National to compete for Decorated Dog Best In Show. Buy an extra dog to decorate and keep for yourself!
