Dear Illinois Hereford Breeders:
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the former Illinois Polled Hereford Association and
Illinois Hereford Breeders’ Association, we’d like to personally invite you to join the NEW
Illinois Hereford Association in 2013. Both organizations have made tremendous progress
over the last several years and we hope to continue that trend by striving to provide value
back to our membership.
Enthusiasm is high for Hereford cattle in the state of Illinois! In the past, Hereford breeders
have found value in being members of both associations. As we begin 2013, you now have
the opportunity to join one AWESOME organization.
We encourage you to join/renew your membership with our new organization by filling out
the membership form at the bottom of this page. The cost is $40 per year and you can make
the checks payable to the IHA.
In addition, we invite you to join us Friday night, February 22, 2013 for the inagural
Banquet and Annual Meeting of the new Illinois Hereford Association at the Northfield
Center in Springfield. The social starts at 5:30 p.m.; the meal will begin at 6 p.m., followed
by the annual meeting. The Illinois Hereford Women will also be hosting their annual Silent
Auction fundraiser this night as well. The evening will conclude with the 10th Annual Elite
Embryo Auction that will start at approximately 8:30 p.m.
New this year – kids can join other kids (with babysitters) in Room 200 for a pizza party
and games while the banquet is going on! Just RSVP on how many kids and their ages and
the cost for pizza will be split based on number of kids. Babysitting is FREE!
In order to speed up and simplify check in at the Annual Meeting, we encourage you to
prepay your meal expense and complete the RSVP information on the form below. Adult
meals are $25 and children’s meals (10 years old or younger) are $10. By completing the
membership application/banquet RSVP form and accompanying it with a method of payment;
your check-in at the annual meeting will only take seconds!
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us! Thank you in advance
for your continued support of the newly formed Illinois Hereford Association!
Sincerely,
Kim

In December of 2012, the Illinois Hereford Association
(IHA) and the Illinois Polled Hereford Association (IPHA)
merged into one organization to be known as the Illinois
Hereford Association (IHA). Ballots were mailed to members
of both organizations in November and votes were counted on
Dec. 16. The merger passed both organizations individually,
with an overwhelming number of those who voted from both
organizations, voting in favor of the merger.
Below are statements from the Presidents of the former
organizations…
Dear Members,
As I sit here and reflect on the process that has resulted in the new
combined Illinois Hereford Association. I realized we couldn’t have
gotten to where we are today without all of you. It was very pleasing to
see such a large number of ballots come back in the mail, and I would
like to express my thanks for all of you who took the time to vote and
help us pass the merger by 96%. It means a lot knowing that we had
the confidence of our membership behind us through this process.
A committee, including myself and several others, will be
assembling a new slate of officers and directors with the new set of by
laws in mind. These by laws and the new board will be adopted and
voted on at the annual meeting that will take place on Friday night,
February 22, 2013 at the Northfield Center in Springfield. I strongly
encourage all members to attend the meeting, as this will truly be an
evening of two annual meetings culminating in one association by the
end of the night. Just as a side note we would like to continue the
tradition of the silent auction so please bring any items you would like
to add to the auction.
Let’s make the first Illinois Hereford Association annual banquet a
big success!
Sincerely,
Floyd Crane
Dear Illinois Polled Hereford Breeders,
I would like to thank everyone for their participation in our recent
vote to merge with the Illinois Hereford Association. Over 70% of our
members voted with over 95% voting for approval. The new
association’s name will be Illinois Hereford Association.
I wish to thank the Illinois Polled Hereford board of directors for the
extra effort put forth to make this merger a reality. I especially want to
thank Andrew Garnhart and Kim Carney Rhodes for all of their efforts.
I feel that the future is very bright for the Hereford breed in Illinois
due to the combination of strengths from both associations merging.
Together we have the ability to move Illinois Herefords to the top
nationally and as THE BREED in Illinois. It should be an exciting time
as we move forward as Illinois Hereford Breeders.
Sincerely,
David Albin

Hereford Youth Participation and Engagement (HYPE) Program Details
The Illinois Hereford Association (IHA) has developed a
points-based program for all members of the Illinois Junior
Hereford Association (IJHA) to encourage broader participation
in activities offered to Hereford Youth on both the State and
National levels. The IHA strongly believes that broader youth
participation in all Hereford related activities will lead to
brighter futures for those involved.
The Hereford Youth Participation and Engagement (HYPE)
Program will run on a calendar year (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31).
Participants must be a member of the IJHA and submit a request
to participate including name, date of birth, address, phone
number and email address to Buddy Edenburn
([email protected]) by March 1st each year. All
applicants will be eligible for awards by the following age
divisions (age as of January 1st):
Pee Wee
Junior
Intermediate
Senior
(7 to 9 years of age)
(10 to 13 years of age)
(14 to 17 years of age)
(18 to 21 years of age)
Points will be earned for participation in events, not placement
or ranking in the event, to encourage Juniors to participate in the
numerous contest and shows sponsored by the IHA and NJHA.
Points will be awarded for involvement in the following events:
Illinois Beef Expo
• Exhibit in any Hereford Show (horned/polled/heifer/steer)
• Judging Contest

• Exhibit at least one animal in the Saturday or Sunday Shows
• Participate in Fitting, Speech and Showmanship Contests

Brent and Kris Lowderman Honored with
Innovator Award
Brent and Kris Lowderman, Carthage, Ill., were presented
with an American Hereford Association Innovator Award during
the National Western Stock Show Hereford Carload and Pen
Show Jan. 18 in Denver. Brent and Kris were chosen because of
their contribution to the Hereford industry.
Brent was raised on his family’s Hereford operation,
Lowderman Cattle Co. He is still a part of that operation today,
along with his parents, who started the Hereford business, Jack
and Sherry, and his brothers and their families.
Brent and Kris own and operate the Carthage Livestock
Auction Co. in Carthage, Ill. Brent manages the auction barn
and Kris, in addition to her job as an accountant, uses her CPA
degree to keep the books for the auctions.
Through their involvement in the auction business and their
love of Herefords, Brent and Kris helped start the Greater
Midwest Hereford Influenced Feeder Calf Sale in 2007, which
was one of the first of its kind and has helped create demand for
Hereford and Hereford-cross feeder calves. The sale helps
smaller producers pool their cattle and draws buyers looking
specifically for Hereford feeder calves.
Brent and Kris Lowderman, Carthage, Ill., were honored with a Hereford
Innovator Award from the American Hereford Association (AHA) for their
commitment to the Hereford industry and for their help starting the Greater
Midwest Hereford Influenced Feeder Calf Sale. Pictured at the awards
presentation on Jan. 18 in Denver are: Cliff Copeland, AHA president; Brent
and Kris Lowderman; Whitney Andras, 2012-13 National Hereford Queen; and
Craig Huffhines, AHA executive vice president.
Welcome, Ryan and Kylan
Andrew and Christy Garnhart welcomed Ryan Jacob Garnhart
on September 7, 2012. He weighed 9 lbs. and was 21" long. He
is welcomed home by big brother Peyton.
Cody and Casie Helms welcomed their second son, Kylan
Lance Helms, at 3:24 p.m. on the January 10. He came into the
world at 21.5" long and weighed 7 lbs., 11oz. Big Brother
Hayden (almost 2) is already teaching him how to do chores!
Congratulations to both of these families!

2nd Annual Spring Performance
Tested Bull And Hereford Influence

Do you have Hereford females and/or Hereford-influenced females that you are
wanting to sell? Do you want an outlet that recognizes the value and influence of
the Hereford breed to the beef cattle chain? Are you shouting for a market that will
promote your Hereford females above the mass of the market place?
After several years of careful consideration, input and planning, Lowderman
Cattle Company is announcing its 2nd Annual Performance Tested Bull and
Hereford Influenced female sale.
This Female Sale is open for consignments to all members of the Illinois

have baldy calves), Hereford females bred to have Hereford or baldy calves and
Hereford-influenced females. As this sale will be limited, consignments will be
accepted on a first come first serve basis. Cost will be $25 per lot with a 5%
commission.
This year’s sale date is Monday evening, March 18, 2013, at 6 p.m., at
