Winter time. When the lakes are freezing and a
chilling cold is taking hold of nature, everyone
is happy to sit cosily near the fireplace. The
very steadfast people use the short light of the

With our groundbreaking developments
and new machine concepts we have again
demonstrated our drive and knowledge this
year. Our remuneration was a lot of support
and numerous orders mainly from the dairy
industry.
We are glad to inform you about another
very successful business year at the end of
this year. To continue the positive trend of
the last years we have achieved a very good
annual turnover (28 mio Euros). This results in
a solid and - one can even say historic - record
amount of orders at hand amounting to 19
million Euros. This will use up our capacities
far into the year 2016.
This convincing result is above all owing to
the commitment, the high motivation and the
competence of our employees, many of whom
can celebrate a company anniversary this year
(see report on the right side).
The coming year 2016 will allow us to look
back with pride on a 60-year company history.
On the history of a company which has stayed
loyal to the location Wangen for decades. A
company, which has developed from a trading
company into the leading supplier of format
flexible cup and bucket filling machines
and has meanwhile delivered more than
2000 filling, dosing and packing machines
worldwide. All in all a good basis to look
positively into the future.
We wish all our customers, employees,
suppliers and partners merry and relaxing
holidays and all the best for the coming year.
We are looking forward to a common business
year 2016.
Yours

and the GRUNWALD team
This year 18 long-standing male and female
employees have celebrated their company
jubilee for the first or even for a repeated
time. We are glad about the high amount of
employees celebrating their jubilee. These 18
people alone present 320 years of GRUNWALD
experience.
320 years of job experience and knowledge of
skilled workers from which the younger colleagues can also benefit thus securing the
quality of our work in team work.
320 years which stand for the attractiveness
of GRUNWALD as an employer.
320 year in which many long-standing strong
relationships with our customers have developed.
Such long-standing strong connections in a
friendly, even familial atmosphere in combination with our competence and commitment
are the ground-stone for our success.
We are proud on our committed and qualified
employees. On employees who use their best
efforts to satisfy the customers, who for many
years have contributed with their ideas, their
competence and their passion to design the
future of GRUNWALD. All in all a significant
factor for success - for our customers and for
GRUNWALD.

In 1987 the production of milk ultra (UHT)
started with the emergence of the Ultra Lala
plant in Gómez Palacio.
In 1992 the yoghurt production in Torreón
factory started and Durangos Pasteurisers
were acquired. In the following years there
was a considerable expansion and in 2003 a
large number of companies in Mexico was acquired true to the motto: “Be a national brand
reaching all corners of the country.”
Expansion to Guatemala in 2008. GRUPO LALA
expanded to the Central American market.
With an investment of $
100 million the group
opened the Laguna
Industrial complex
for cheese and yoghurt with the highest technology worldwide in 2009. GRUPO
LALA now is one of the
main sources of supply around the country.
In 2013 they went
public at the Mexican stock exchange
(BMV).
The company philosophy of GRUPO LALA is
“Be a national brand reaching all corners of
the country”. Until today this has been the
daily practice of the biggest dairy company in
Mexico at more than 25 production sites.
With further production sites and joint ventures in the United States as well as in Guatemala the company which is listed on the stock
exchange developed into an important and
very well-known producer of dairy products in
North and Central America.
In the city of Irapuato located to the north
of Mexico City a further dairy production site
was established in 2005. At this location they
mainly produce yoghurt products and dairy
derivatives.
In 2013 part of the production reached the
capacity limit. In order to meet the increasing demand they planned to invest in a highperformance cup filling machine.
GRUNWALD received their enquiry for a
high-speed cup filling machine via the local
representative Tecnoco for filling various yoghurt products at a production speed of up to
20,000 cups/h.
The technical requirements were as follows:
• Hygienic design
• 2 fillers in CIP design
• Sealing of the cups with plastic sealing
film from the reel
• Minimum of foil waste
• Best possible accessibility to the machine
• Best possible operability
The linear machine type GRUNWALD-FOODLINER 6.000/4x2 in double-step design and
with specially designed cup storage met all
the customer’s requirements in its entirety.
Production with this FOODLINER machine was
started at the beginning of 2015 and it produces with high reliability and availability at
the entire satisfaction of the customer at the
production speed required.
We are glad about this successful beginning of
our cooperation with GRUPO LALA and thank
all our contact persons in Irapuato and Torréon for the cooperative and successful teamwork.
We look forward to realising further interesting machine projects with them in the future.

In spring 2014 we received an enquiry from
Arla Holstebro in Denmark for a rotary-type
machine for filling herb and whipped butter.
The challenge was to offer the following machine equipment:
• Extended storages for cups and
snap-on lids with a storage time of
up to 15 minutes
• Particle suction for cups
• Filling station with servo drives
• Cover leaf station with fine adjustment
for the precise placing of the paper
on the corresponding product
• CIP
• Ergonomic accessibility
• Lowest possible weight of change parts
• High production speed of more than
10,000 cups/h
• Rotary-type machine in compact design
They chose the “flagship“ of our rotary-type
machines, the high-performance GRUNWALDROTARY 20.000 which was then equipped with
9 servo motors in total. This 4-lane machine
therefore meets a production speed of up to
10,800 cups/h.
Due to the GRUNWALD quick-change system
the format changeover can be carried out
within a few minutes. The interesting feature
of this equipment is that the cup setter to be
exchanged is pulled on the connected format
trolley and is then exchanged for a different
cup setter. This very simple handling reduces
the physical stress for the operators considerably.
This machine was delivered in January 2015
after a production time of only 6 months and
since that time it has been working reliably in
1-shift operation.

GRUNWALD is raising the bar
High-performance bucket filler designed as format flexible
rotary-type machine requiring almost no change parts
In the past we already developed several
new dosing technologies for the flexible
filling of cups. With this year’s new development of a format flexible high-performance bucket filler we set a milestone in
the field of bucket filling machines!
This bucket filler was designed on the basis of
a rotary-type machine and it is available as
models HITTPAC XL and ROTARY XL. The decisive feature of these rotary-type machines is
their format flexibility and in addition almost
no change parts are required.
A well-rounded thing
With a small size of 1,700 x 1,700 mm this rotary-type bucket filling machine offers all the
filling processes which had to be included in a
linear bucket filling machine so far. In addition
various round bucket sizes with sealing film
from reel and snap-on lid closure can be handled with filling volumes of 1 kg up to 14 kg.
All things considered
A further great advantage of the round design
of this bucket filler is the quick changeover of
the machine.
Due to the use of sophisticated technology
and tools time-consuming modification work
is no longer necessary. The special cup rings
we have developed are universal and therefore suitable for packing materials of different dimensions. In combination with the “one
touch” function for the bucket denesting
which has been successfully used for several
years the packing material changeover can be
made almost without change parts or timeconsuming modification work.
Decisive advantages
The most important advantages of this newly
developed rotary-type bucket filling machine
are
•• the increased production speed due to a
considerably higher cycle speed compared
to linear bucket filling machines
•• low space requirements as well as
•• the attractive price-performance ratio.
The open design offers good accessibility.
The optimum design of the packing material
sterilisation systems and a filling station
guaranteeing high filling accuracy are further
important features.
Successful start
The fully-automatic bucket filling machine
type GRUNWALD-HITTPAC XL shown on the
big photo was presented for the first time with
great success in autumn.
The new rotary-type bucket filling machine
GRUNWALD-ROTARY XL which can optionally
be equipped with a packing material
sterilisation system guarantees a maximum
product shelf life. This rotary-type machine
offers the advantage of a higher production
speed and thus a better productivity. Above
all the simple and quick changeover of this
machine is advantageous as the idle time
during changeover could be reduced by up to
70 % compared to the customer’s old existing
linear machine.
The changeover time can be reduced further
when using the optionally available double
cutting/sealing station.
One thing is for sure: In line with the
development of new machines GRUNWALD
will continue to set the focus on their new
hygienic concepts and the further advantage
of a reduced changeover time.
Experiences in practice showed that an
increase in the production output of
20 % - 50 % is possible, depending on the
product.

F OREC A S T 2016
Four wells for Uganda
In the year 2016 we will take part in the
following events and fairs:
GRUNWALD donates 5,200 Euros to “awamu”
GRUNWA L D - NE W S
It has become a tradition that GRUNWALD
donates the amount of money for a beneficial
purpose at the end of the year which would
have been spent for Santa Claus gifts.
This tradition is continued with this year’s
donation in the amount of 5,200 Euros to the
Wangen association of “awamu - Zusammen
für Uganda e.V.”
In the year 2008 we donated to “awamu” for
the first time. Then the first GRUNWALD wells
were built. Our continuous donations have
meanwhile led to the construction of nine
wells. With this year’s donation four more
wells will be built.
The wells will be named after merited longstanding GRUNWALD employees:
Klaus-Bobinger-Brunnen
Klaus Bobinger started in 1985 as a mechanical
engineer and customer service engineer in
the field of machine assembly. He took part
in the whole development of the machines.
As from 1990 he was the responsible head of
department of final assembly.
As from 2009 his huge special knowledge and
his experience which he had acquired during
the years was in great demand in the newly
created development department. He was a
contact person for our clients but also for the
colleagues as far as filling, filling performance
and features of the most different products
were concerned. He was above all a consultant
in case of problems and an asset in the
field of research and development. Klaus
Bobinger died on 29 January 2015 completely
unexpectedly.
Beat-R.-Beck-Brunnen
When GRUNWALD took over the Swiss cup
filling machine producer HITTAC in 1999,
more than 900 HITTPAC filling machines
were already on the market worldwide.
Beat Beck, a long-standing employee and
business manager of HITTPAC company
significantly took part in the development of
this brand. Many of these filling machines
were designed and sold by him. Due to his
incredible command of languages (6 different
languages) Beat Beck himself was able to sell
the machines to South America, Africa and up
to Australia (i.e. worldwide).
When the HITTPAC company was taken over
by GRUNWALD, Beat Beck supported the
company through this transfer and acted as a
Swiss representative for the GRUNWALD cup
filling machines for more than 10 years. At
international fairs as well, Mr. Beck was always
a precious support to our sales team due to
his perfect language skills and his technical
knowhow.
Even today Mr. Beck works for GRUNWALD in
the field of project protection. Due to his good
knowledge he is able to take complete care of
customers in view of consulting and sale as
well as technical support (inclusive start-ups).
The GRUNWALD staff and management as
well as our customers very much appreciate
Mr. Beat Beck because of his competence and
personality.
Wolfgang-Nienstedt-Brunnen
Wolfgang Nienstedt was the head of the
construction department from 1997 until his
retirement in June 2007. During these 10 years
he contributed to the success of GRUNWALD
by famous and future-oriented developments
- such as the GRUNWALD inline machines
and the GRUNWALD dosing system type
EASYCLEAN. He set standards in the field of
inline filling machines.
Norbert-Zeh-Brunnen
He worked in different functions for
GRUNWALD. Worldwide he worked as a
service engineer, as a purchaser, as a customer
service manager and as a consultant whenever
difficult problems had to be solved. Be it used
machines or the first rotary-type machines of
the model ROTARY or the highly modern cup
filling machines - he lived to see them all and
he “made them run”. After more than 21 years
he was given farewell and retired in the year
2009.

supports several projects in Uganda, e.g. the
construction of fresh-water wells. Each newly
built well means for the population that 100
to 250 people are provided with fresh, clean
drinking water. Thus, times where the village
inhabitants had to draw poor water out of
ponds in order to obtain water at all are over.
The illness rate can be lowered by 50% by the
availability of fresh, clean water. The quality of
life and, above all, the health of the population
has effectively improved thereby.

Dosing Filling Packing
GRUNWA L D - NE W S
Investment in the latest traveling-column milling machine
The production of flexible, technically
sophisticated and high-quality filling, dosing
and packing machines is only possible if the
necessary parts can be manufactured flexibly
and reliably by means of a high-quality
production and manufacturing technology.
As GRUNWALD is able to produce all qualityrelevant parts to 70 % to 80 % on its own,
the latest manufacturing technology must be
available for the necessary precision work of
our highly qualified expert staff. Those milling
and turning parts which we do not produce
ourselves, are produced by certified and
reliable sub-suppliers in the region.
GRUNWALD keeps up with the increasing
requirements!
Our manufacturing department fulfils the
highest requirements and corresponds to the
latest level of manufacturing technology for
our machines are constantly adapted to new
changing challenges. The machine parts and
spare parts used for the GRUNWALD cup
filling and GRUNWALD bucket filling machines
are exclusively produced by the latest
manufacturing technology and by machines
which are on average not more than four to
five years old.
Investment in the future
GRUNWALD has now invested in another
traveling-column milling machine with an
investment sum of more than 400,000 Euros an ultra-modern equipment of manufacturing
technology.
We thus boost and improve the competence
in our manufacturing department and further expand its flexibility. Later, the machine
will be transferred to our new manufacturing
hall which comprises more than 1,000 square
metres. We hope that we will be able to start
with the new building shortly (more information about this in our next brochure).
Technology of the future
In October DMG-Mori/Deckel Maho - one of
the largest producers of traveling-columns
worldwide - delivered the traveling-column
milling machine type DMF 180 of the latest
generation.
With its 5-axis-system it enables a highly
productive and flexible manufacture. This is
very important in the field of part manufacture.
The manufacturing possibilities are impressing. For the experts of the matter a few data of
this “chipping miracle” as follows:
• integrated NC round table
• pivoting milling head as a steered B-axis
• 5-axis processing
• X-traverse path up to 1,800 mm
• 60 tool places
• 40 bar interior cooling
• 18,000 min/1 rmp
Photos top-down:
The 6-metre, 15-ton milling machine is unloaded by
a crane - you have to know what you are doing!
When operating ample knowledge of the manufacturing technology is required. Our employee Markus
Rehm could convince himself of the large variety of
options, the user friendliness and the optimal ergonomics of the DMF 180. He now knows his stuff!!
This 2nd generation of traveling-column machines
was developed under the prerequisite “more
precise, more flexible and more economical”. The
high precision is among others guaranteed by
the stiff machine base made of cast mineral and
the symmetrical traveling-column. It was given a
larger traverse path in the Y-axis, higher chipping
performance and the preciseness which has already
been high was again increased.
The picture shows the machine milling out a
1,720 mm flat part of a GRUNWALD FOODLINER.
