Mark’s Mark...
Most lessons on church a.endance focus on the command for all Chris4ans to assemble together in Hebrews 10:24-­‐25. Each of us must not miss worship services because to do so is sin. But there is more reason for us to gather together than just because we have to. While I must a.end worship, I also want to a.end worship because:
Worship is a Family Reunion. In Mark 3:31-­‐35 Jesus is inside a house with many of his disciples. His mother and brothers arrive and ask for Jesus’ disciples to bring him out. Jesus looks around and tells his disciples that those who follow him are truly his mothers and brothers. While blood may be thicker than water, the spiritual is greater than the physical. We meet together as Chris4ans because it is an opportunity to see those who are our spiritual family. Hearing the announcements concerning what is going on in the family and spending 4me together in the foyer before worship is 4me that is essen4al for us to get to know one another very well. Each 4me we meet as a church, it is a foretaste of what heaven will be like in the future.
Worship is a Refuge. Some call the auditorium a sanctuary (a safe place). When I a.end worship it gives me an opportunity to spend 4me away from my toils and troubles of everyday life. While I am at worship I can focus on what is important, think about my decisions and refocus my life properly.
Worship is a Billboard. Every Sunday many of my neighbors are working in their yards or siQng on their front porches drinking coffee and reading the paper. Perhaps they no4ce me running out to the car while straightening out my 4e or my wife chasing the boys to tuck their shirts in. In all the commo4on, perhaps they no4ce that we are going to church. We influence people in ways that we do not realize. Our faith is visible in our ac4ons.
Worship is a Memorial Service. I a.end worship because Jesus died for me. Each Lord’s Day, I gather around the table with other disciples because we honor the death of Christ. Why wouldn’t any Chris4an want to be there?
Worship is a Victory Celebra>on. Almost every religion except Chris4anity has the tomb of a great leader. Chris4anity has no tomb because the Savior has risen from the grave. As 1 Corinthians 15:57 says, “Thanks be to God who gives us the victory.”
Worship is Time Spent With God. While God cannot be confined to any building or temple, there is a sense in which our 4me of worship together is 4me spent with God. As a child of God, I long for the 4me I can spend with my heavenly Father.
When we reflect on not just why we have to go to worship, but why we get to go to worship we can like David say, “I was glad when they said to me, let us go to the house of the Lord.” Psalm 122:1

Sympathy
Jerry Wallace, the brother of Ann Farley and uncle to Kevin Farley, passed away Monday. The visitation will be Thursday night at Filbeck-­‐Cann & King at 5:00 p.m. The funeral will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. Tom J. Bridges, the brother-­‐in-­‐law of Sharon Tucker, passed away. Cards can be sent to her sister, Nancy Bridges, at #9 Oxen Pasture Rd., Doniphan, MO 63935.
Marvina Oliver, the mother of Roger Oliver, a former member here, passed away Wednesday. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Collier. Regarding the Sick
Thressa Cotham is in Marshall County Hospital room 109 with a blood clot, but hopes to go home soon.
Rowena Northcott, former member at Benton has been in Lourdes Hospital and has moved to Lakeway Nursing Home Room 120A.
Don Owen Sr., the father of Don Owen has been ill.
