Trim the block to measure 9½" x 9½". quiltingtreasures.com 3 Floral Fantasy Note: Measurements are given in inches, seam allowance is ¼", and strips are cut selvedge to selvedge. Usable fabric is assumed to be 40" wide. • Sew all the pieces together to make the center of the quilt, Fig. 10. It should measure 54½" x 63½". Always refer to the quilt diagram for guidance on laying out the blocks and borders. Pressing the rectangles away from the center square makes the block construction very easy, and the block lays nice and flat. Figure 10 • Sew each border in place, starting with each of the side pieces and then with the top/bottom strips. Finish the Quilt: • Cut the backing fabric in (2) 2¼ yards pieces. • Using a ½” seam allowance, sew the 2 pieces together horizontally along the selvedge. Trim the selvedge, press. • Lay batting on top of the wrong side of the backing fabric. • Lay the pieced quilt top on top of the batting. • Using your preferred method for securing the quilt sandwich, pin or baste the sandwich. • Quilt as desired. • Trim layers even with quilt top. • Sew the 2½” burgundy strips together end to end. Fold in half lengthwise with wrong sides together; press. • Sew binding to quilt using your preferred method.
