Live Missional Dr. William Lamb, Lee University Location: Wekiwa 4 Church history reveals that mission often revolves around the ideals associated with Christ’s command in the Book of Acts to “Go and make disciples,” otherwise described as the Great Commission. Although this is true, more is needed from the company of Christ followers to be salt and light to the world. Rather than limiting the idea of mission to short term or long term activity, the road to missional living is a choice to sacrifice oneself for the cause of Jesus Christ. This class will explore missional values that help shape normal people into real life missionaries that will impact their world for the kingdom of God. Masterful Mentoring Dr. Gary Teja, author of Masterful Mentoring, and Dr. John Wagenveld Location: Wekiwa 9 Mentoring is a cry being heard from many young and emerging leaders. Mentoring is a key part of the solution for 22 reproducing and multiplying new leaders as older leaders age and transition to other vital roles. This workshop will address the questions raised by current leaders who want to become more effective mentors and the queries of younger leaders who want to understand how to be apt mentees. Preserving the Religious Freedom & Assets of the Church Through Incorporation Steve Lentz and Tim Coalter Location: Wekiwa 10 Learn about the benefits of church incorporation and whether your church is incorporated properly. Prevailing Prayer: Developing a Lifestyle of Conversation with God Bishop Brian Sutton, Executive Director, Leadership Development and Discipleship Ministries Location: Suwannee 11 God is calling His people to commune with Him in a life of prayer. This class will share testimony and insight regarding how believers may develop a lifestyle of conversation with God. Simple Ways to Ignite Your Discipleship Program Darren Schalk, Christian Education Director Location: Suwannee 12 How do we effectively disciple people? Sunday school? Small groups? Midweek meetings? How should it all come together? What should be taught? Where do we begin? Church discipleship is a loaded idea. It can be overwhelming. Can we get something going that won’t quickly fizzle out? Can we effectively see that all our gatherings are actually helping people grow closer to Christ? In this session we’ll discuss a few simple ways to ignite (or reignite) your discipleship programs, allowing you and your people to truly grow in their walk with Christ. To the Regions Beyond Your Reach Is Only as Good as Your Grasp of Preparation (Part One) Host: Dr. Hector Ortiz, Ph.D., Co-Hosts: Bishops/Presbyters David Browder, Stephen Masilela, Clayton Martin, Main Speaker: Dr. Ken Gnanakan, Ph.D. Location: Suwannee 13 The future of any institution will depend on the development of its leadership. The annals of leadership have proven that no institution can grow and expand without the intrinsic and extrinsic development of its leadership. The present postmodern world context will demand leadership development that engages indigenousness, migrations, globalization, contextualization, and ecumenism. In the new world order, mission outreach will require a holistic integrated approach of ministry preparation that will create a ministry of self-sufficiency versus a dependent ministry. This is what the GCTS/ACTS consortia is committed to—the challenges of the regions beyond. 23 We are the Generation that Can End Hunger by 2030 Bishop José García, director of Church Relations, Bread for the World Location: Suwannee 14 Hunger is a massive, complex, age-old human struggle. However, in the last 50 years, global hunger and poverty have been reduced from 2 billion to 795 million people. At Bread for the World we have faith to believe that this is the generation that can end hunger. God reminded Israel through the prophets to, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy” (Proverbs 31:8, 9, NIV). This is part of proclaiming the holistic gospel message of the Good News that speaks God’s complete “Shalom” to a fallen world. Youth Ministries Going Forward Kirk Rising, International Youth Ministries director Location: Suwannee 15 As we have assessed the state of youth ministries globally for the Church of God of Prophecy, we have formed plans and strategies for “What’s Next!” The workshop is designed specifically for state and national youth directors to give a glimpse into future plans for youth certification training, youth missions opportunities, and much more. 24 WORKSHOP Session Two 3:30–4:45 p.m. 5 Steps To Connect The Generations In Your Church Shelton Beneby, Senior Pastor, New Covenant Cathedral, Toronto, Canada Location: Suwannee 21 The best model for church ministry is one that involves people of all generations. Generations are important to God, who identified Himself as the God of generations— Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. However, the reality is that the generations in our churches are disconnected. The generation gap is real and it is causing some of our churches to struggle, stagnate, or even die. We have to move quickly to bridge this gap otherwise we will lose the future of the church, our children. This workshop will introduce you to five important steps you can take to connect the generations in your local church so that your worship services are precious and “off the chain,” your ministries are vibrant, and your outreach is powerful. 10 Simple Ways to Improve Your Children’s Ministry NOW Dale Hudson, director of Children’s Ministry, Christ Fellowship Church Location: Wekiwa 6 Looking for some simple, easy ways to improve your children’s ministry NOW? We’ll share 10 simple steps you can take that will have an immediate impact and take your ministry to a new level. Intro to College and Career Ministries Kirk Rising, International Youth Ministries director Location: Suwannee 17 The 18 to 34 years old demographic is disappearing from church, and faith in Jesus across the evangelical world. This is no different for the Church of God of Prophecy. We recognize three groups we must target for discipleship and training: • The College and University Student • The Young Professional • The Young Married Our goal for CCMN is to move this age demographic from sitting in our churches, to serving the church and the communities in which they live. This workshop is for those 26 interested in developing and engaging this age group in the maturing of their faith, while creating socially relevant outreach opportunities. Destacar varios temas que se incluyen en los salmos, que pueden contribuir positivamente al bienestar integral de los pastores y las pastoras Live Missional Dr. Mentoring a Generation Terry Dozier, Former NBA Small Forward, Charlotte Hornets Location: Suwannee 15 It is said that youth want to be mentored by the old more than the old want for want to mentor the young! His career began in 1989 when the Charlotte Hornets recognized his proven ability to compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) while still a senior playing for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. Terry 27 accepted a contract to play for the Hornets, which marked only the genesis of a worldwide and accomplished athletic career. Scripture tells us that the early church was “devoted to prayer” (Acts 1:14, 2:42, 6:4). It is the desire of the Father that every church today be the same. Becoming a people devoted to prayer requires more than programs and good intentions. It requires a faithful, intentional obedience in seeking the Father daily. Prayer Ministries exists to . . . • Cultivate a culture of prayer in this movement for the sovereign rule of God. • Resource each local church so that prayer can be their number one priority. • Equip every leader and member so they become characterized by prayer. • Affirm our call to the family altar and make prayer a priority in every home. Through humorous and moving personal experiences, biblical examples and character studies, Hamby brings the reader to a place of joy-filled thankfulness that can be lived no matter the circumstances. Prevailing Prayer Brian Sutton “Author Brian Sutton’s warm and welcoming style overlays profound spiritual truth. Seekers of God who are hungry and thirsty to know the Father more intimately will not be able to put this book aside. Reverend Sutton doesn’t know about God; he knows God! Walk with him in Prevailing Prayer. It will lead you to deeper communion with the Father and victory in life.” —Dr. Jeff Farmer President, PCCNA 52 The Call To Stewardship In February 2017, the Church of God of Prophecy will embark together on a study of stewardship. Inside this book is everything you need to enable your church to respond to The Call to Stewardship. You’ll find a month’s worth of material for your entire church; sermon starters and children—adult lessons. Best of all, it’s reproducible! You only need one copy per church. Minister’s Pocket Manual Brian Sutton The original edition of the Minister’s Pocket Manual was compiled almost half a century ago by C.T. Davidson as a resource that could be easily carried in a minister’s coat pocket and used for funerals, weddings, and special services. Since then, societal and cultural changes have called for this updated and expanded edition. May all who use this work be anointed to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit.
