Volume 49, Issue 5 Page 9 A Look Back in History by Chuck Clark I plan to submit a small article on items from the Clubs history thought out the year to Celebrate our 50th Anniversary. The Region was granted a Provisional Charter in October 1960 pending documents as stated in the Letter from National. The Official Charter was granted in June 1961. Jim Pryce provide me a copy of the letter granting the Provisional Charter. Information well worth sharing with all club members. Jim has provide several other interesting items that I plan to submit in upcoming months. If anyone else has any historical information, pictures, letters, etc….and willing to share, please contact me via phone 756-2672 or email [email protected]. Hopefully we can highlight items from the 60, 70, 80 and 90s. Page 10 Rich Mixture May 2010 - Volume 49, Issue 5 Page 11 RE’s Corner By Jason Vehige This was going to be my April article but I missed the deadline so May it is. I have been slacking in this area, my bad. First off this month I want to extend a big thank you to John Byrne for serving as RM editor for many years. We are looking for someone to take over the RM Editor position. The Rich Mixture is the official communication source for the club. It is a great way to get more involved even if you can’t make a lot of meetings. Back in March we managed to pull off the wave pool event!! This would not have been possible without the help of Tony Erwin!! He worked very hard to get through changing prices and surprise wedding receptions. Turnout was good and the exposure was great. Who knows, the wave pool may make it back on the schedule for next year. Speaking of the schedule, I spent an afternoon in Bluefield WV talking to city officials and we are all set for our June event on the 26th and 27th!! Our August event has been moved to Riverside HS on the normal third Sunday. Both the City and SWVRSCCA want to judge the first events outcome before making plans moving forward. I hope everything works out and we can play there a few times next year. The official event hotel for Bluefield will be the Quality Hotel in Bluefield WV call (304) 325-6170 and ask for the SCCA group rate to reserve your room. Our most recent event at Riverside HS went very well. Thirty Five drivers took eight runs at the course and we still had time for fun runs and an awards presentation!! Miro did a great job on the course and Chuck unveiled the SWVR Trailer version 2.0 with refreshed interior paint, new lateral files and a sweet new folding table top complete with the SWVR logo stained into the wood top… that’s right stained!! We all had a great time at the event….. LOOK OUT!!!… Our next event is coming up very soon!! The Parkersburg event is Saturday June 5th at the Mid Ohio Valley Regional Airport. Like years past early tech and our June membership meeting will be at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Marietta OH Friday evening. Big thanks to Davis Powers for taking the lead on this very popular event. I hope to see all of you out at one of the June events…. 2 great sites and 3 days of fun, it’s a good time to part of the best region in the SCCA!! Minutes of the May 2010 Club Meeting of the Southern West Virginia Region of the Sports Car Club of America Members present: Nonmembers present: Location: Start: • • • • • • • • End: Mike Francis, Jason Vehige, Cathy and Chuck Clark, Jack Sampson, Miro Valent, John Taylor Amy Francis, Brenda Vehige, Nicole Lawson Miro Valent’s house, Charleston, 7 May 2010 7:30 pm Donation can will be put out during the May event for the Diabetes Foundation walk June Parkersburg event official hotel will be the Holiday Inn off the Marietta OH exit. Parkersburg event pre-registration, tech inspection and the June club meeting will be held the night prior at the hotel. The senator that helped us with the Bluefield event passed away. The event will be dedicated to him. The Auto Cross committee has submitted their rule changes. The board will vote. There are to be no fun runs by anyone unless the car has passed tech inspection and the driver paid for the full event. Currently the club has 101 members. Treasure report states the club had $4,320.89 prior to paying bills. The club paid about ½ of that amount in bills. 7:50 pm Submitted by Cathy Clark on behalf of Tara Romberger, SWVR Secretary Page 12 Rich Mixture THE 2010 GREAT LAKES DIVISON Solo Divisional Championship & GLSS Event #4 Grissom Aeroplex, Peru, IN August 6, 7 & 8, 2010 Schedule of Events NOTE: The Divisional is a 2 day combined time event. The fine folks in the SCCA Solo Department announced to all of the Divisional Solo Stewards on the last conference call that they (Howard Duncan, in particular) had some exciting news to share with us. o It involves Tire Rack, THE major sponsor for solo in SCCA at the Divisional and National level. o It is something that all competitors can definitely use to help with expenses during the season. o It will be given away at the Divisional Championship event at Grissom during trophy presentation on Sunday, August 8th. o Anyone that is a competitor at the Divisional Championship event may be eligible in a variety of categories. o It won’t involve just the person who sets FTD. o There will be twenty of these items. o “It” is a $50 gift card to be used at Tire Rack! As was mentioned above, there will be twenty – count ‘em – 20! - $50 gift cards that will be given away at Grissom in August! These can be used for tires (something we all need!) or any other item that Tire Rack offers. So, plan now to attend the Divisional Championship event at Grissom on August 6th – 8th. Someone has to win and attending the Divisional increases your chances! It’s like playing the lottery – you stand a better chance of winning the lottery if you buy a lottery ticket…… Online registration will be open the beginning of June on MyAutoEvents.com. Of course, you can also register via USPS. Check www.soloseries.org for more information. See you at Grissom in August!
