The President’s Corner……….
It is so hard to believe this is my third year as President of this amazing organization and we are celebrating
110 years as an Association!! Imagine our organization forming in 1907 by a group of teachers and students,
when $1 covered membership and dinner at the Hampton Beach Casino! Today, it is free to be a member, but
we graciously rely on your support.
We have sent young graduates to serve in WWI and II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the War on
Terror – many who sacrificed everything so we could enjoy our way of life. We’ve had the privilege to meet
graduates of old Hampton Academy and Winnacunnet High School who have become successful members
of our community and raised families of their own ready to graduate from WHS.
Over the past three years we have seen a revitalization of the group and increased our participation in our
community. This year’s edition of the Hampton Academy / Winnacunnet High School Association’s Annual
Newsletter has many articles of our year’s activities with as many photos as we could gather – sure hope you
enjoy it.
We are happy to announce that Governor Steven Merrill, WHS 1964, will be able to join us as our honored
speaker for this very special year at our Annual Luncheon and Meeting. Mark your calendar for this afternoon
event and send in your reservation– this year’s event is going to better than ever!
Respectfully,
Tracy Emerton Williams

2015 Scholarship Awards
2015 marked the Alumni Association’s 53th year providing
funding for scholarships to
graduates of Winnacunnet
High School. Over these
years, we have awarded 49
scholarships to children of
alumni for a total value of over
$66,000. In 2015 the Association awarded 2 scholarships to
children of alumni. Each
scholarship was for $1000, and
is renewable for 3 years, making the total value of each
award $4000.
Our first recipient for 2015
was Megan Chase. Megan is
the daughter of David Charles
Chase and Deborah Marie
(Gaulin) Chase; both alumni
from the class of 1983. Megan
is attending Southern Maine
Community College in South
Portland majoring in radiography. Megan was a scholar
athlete at WHS, having played
Field Hockey and Lacrosse all
4 years.
Our second recipient for 2015
was Kyle Harrington. Kyle is
the son of Timothy Joseph
Harrington and Donna Louise
(Testa) Harrington; both alumni from the class of 1984. Kyle
is attending the University of
North Carolina at Wilmington
studying business at the Cameron school of business where
he plans to major in Marketing. While at WHS Kyle participate in Student Council for
4 years and played Lacrosse for
4 years. He also played recreation basketball and flag football
while he was attending WHS.
Lots of Fun at Fundraisers
This year we really stepped up the fundraising activities and hosted a number of events at various
Seacoast establishments to raise money. We couldn’t be successful at these events without the hard
work of the Board of Trustee members and the generosity of the various hosting locations. Most of
these events are just great opportunities for our alumni to gather and have some food and fun. The
establishment gives us a donation based on proceeds. This year’s fundraisers included:
Community Oven, Hampton, NH
Country View Restaurant, Greenland, NH
Flatbread Pizza, Hampton, NH
Ronaldo’s Restaurant, North Hampton, NH
Margaritas, Exeter, NH
“…to strengthen alumni
support through scholarships
and grants….and continue an
everlasting interest in the
school.”
We are also planning an active calendar for the 20162017 year – please come join us at one or more of these events. Every plate helps!

HAWHS Alumni Warrior Spirit Award 2015
goes to Ryan St. Cyr – Class of 2015
In partnership with the WHS
Marine JROTC program we
now present a graduating senior an award on behalf of the
alumni. In May 2015, the
HAWHS Alumni Association
awarded its first “Warrior Spirit
Award” to Ryan St. Cyr.
Ryan’s name will also appear
on a “perpetual” plaque (See
photo for draft) that we are
currently designing and will be
purchasing to hang on the wall
winnacunnetlaumni.org
at the MC JROTC building
on the grounds of WHS.
The Board of Trustees are
incredibly grateful for the
leadership of the WHS
MC JROTC program, Lt.
Col. Michael Antonio
(USMC-Ret) and Master
Sergeant William Paulino
(USMC-Ret). Their work
with our seacoast youth
has changed many lives.
achievements and hard work.
The Board of Trustees plan on
making this an annual event!!
There are many paths that
young people take once upon
graduation from WHS. One of
those paths is into military service. The HA/WHS Alumni
Association working in partnership with the WHS Marine Corp
JROTC Program, assemble
“Warrior Pride Packages” and
send them to alumni who have
just graduated from their basic
training/boot camps and are
now at their first duty station.
These packages are assembled
by the Board of Trustee Members and contain food treats,
personal items, an alumni Tshirt, and a card expressing our
pride in their service to our
country. We do this on behalf of
all members!

Young Alumni College Networking
On January 6 2015, the HA & WHS Alumni Association held their fourth Young Alumni College Networking fair in
the Hawley Library. Younger alumni shared their post graduate and college selection experiences with the students. Board of Trustees Linda Libbey said, “The Alumni Association is trying to promote the spirit of giving back and
welcomes involvement from the young alumni. The networking fair enables students to have a better understanding of
what they want their next step in their education to be. The format of the fair promotes a relaxed atmosphere and gives
students plenty of time to ask individualized questions.” This year we expanded the alumni attendees to include community colleges, military and post-secondary training opportunities such as culinary, welding, cosmetology, and automotive
schools. Once again the attendance was excellent with nearly 50 young alumni returning to connect with students. Next
year there are plans to merge the Young Alumni Networking Fair with the College, Career and Citizenship Readiness
Day which will be held on January 12, 2017.

Alumni Directory Getting Off the Ground!!
With the support of the WHS School Board the Alumni Association is starting
the process of pulling together an alumni directory. Through a partnership with
Harris Connect we will begin the process of gathering current address information of alumni of both Hampton Academy and Winnacunnet High School.
Harris then compiles this information into a beautiful hard cover book that is
available for sale to ONLY ALUMNI. We hope that you will participate in this
new venture.

Branding Workshop Conducted by WHS 2001 Grad
The Board of Trustees, along with the expert advice of Christine Linnehan-Sununu ‘01 is exploring the branding of the Hampton
Academy and Winnacunnet High School Alumni Association. As more and more members join the alumni association, it is vital to
establish our identity and define our mission so that many will get involved. In March 2016, Christine Linnehan-Sununu held a
workshop where the Board members looked at logos of organizations around the country and determined what fit with the spirit of
the organization. There will be more work on this in the upcoming 2016-2017 year.
During the October 2015 meeting of the HAWHS Alumni Association, the Board of Trustees elected by a unanimous vote, Jesse Green, WHS Class of 2010 to join the
Board. Jesse Green had a successful four years (20062010) at Winnacunnet highlighted by his involvement
with student government as well as being a two sport
captain. After graduating in 2010, he spent two years
studying and playing football at Massachusetts Maritime
Academy. During his time at the Academy, Jesse started
dating and married his former 2010 classmate Elly Handley. In 2012, decided to put his studies on hold and serve
in the United States Marine Corps. After being discharged in June 2015, Jesse and his family moved back to
the Seacoast where they now happily reside. Elly is a
waitress at the popular Tuckaway Tavern in Raymond,
and Jesse is a real estate agent with Kennedy and Loiseau
Real Estate out of Hampton Beach. You may also see
Jesse at the Tonry Christmas Tree Farm in Hampton
Falls where he has worked for 10 years. Elly and Jesse
have a daughter named Autumn.
Ted Davis, Board Chairman was also glad to see Jesse
joining the organization – “As chairman of the Board of
Trustees of the HA/WHS Alumni Association, I am ex-
Jesse Green—Class of 2010 Elected
to Board of Trustees
cited that Jesse Green has joined us as a new Trustee. Jesse is a young
man who is going to be a welcome asset to the Association and the
WHS community. Jesse has served our country and now is very involved in the communities that WHS serves. As a board member we
have already experienced his energy and willingness to make things happen. All the Trustees hope that Jesse's joining us will be a stimulus for
other young alums to do the same.”
