A large number of grape varieties are used in the vinification process– up to thirteen different varieties for Chateauneuf du Pape. The main grapes used are Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre together with a whole set of ancient varieties. Their wines always reflect their origin : the famous chateauneuf stones offer depth and body, dry, hot sandy soils add power and spice, chalky sandstone gives structure and the siliceous clay hills produce wines which are rich and round.
