Tourism in South Africa.

Welcome.
In 1994 South Africa became a democratic country after years of
colonial and racist domination when the country embarked on the
road to reconciliation to build a nation united in its diversity.
This year, 2010 will be an important year in South Africa’s historical development. Over the past 16 years, South Africa has shown
the world that it is possible to emerge from conflict to the creation
of a prosperous, peaceful and stable multiparty constitutional
democracy.
The hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup has given us a unique
opportunity to make this event into an important marketing project
by working together to build South Africa into a powerful base for
economic cooperation and growth. We need to ensure that the
World Cup should enhance our global competiveness, which will
contribute to our long-term economic growth for sustainable job
creation and wealth creation opportunities.
In all of this, tourism plays a crucial role, which can be described
as our “new gold” which can assist us create jobs for development and economic growth. Unlike the real gold, tourism is a
never-ending and inexhaustible resource for social cohesion.
Tourism in South Africa provides us with sustainable employment
for youth and women in urban and rural communities. We therefore welcome the support and cooperation of SIPPO, which is
helping South Africa’s small and medium tourism enterprises to
find market access in Switzerland.
The Branch, Overview on Sustainable Tourism in South Africa,
provide Swiss tourism business partners and consumers find
suitable products in our country, especially during the 2010
Soccer World Cup.

North West Province.
The North West Province is a must see destination. The province offers
some of the finest game reserves, cultural sights, archaeological treasures
as well as entertainment resorts. Further more, the North West is all about
the authentic African bush experience and it is the hot, dry African climate
which is truly unique. This province offers also unique opportunities for
white water rafting, canoeing, diving, hot air ballooning, hiking, fishing, rock
climbing, abseiling, hunting, apart from conventional sport like golf or other
outdoor activities like bird watching. For exciting and rare bird viewing opportunities, visit the numerous birding venues, albeit on foot, in a hide or
on canoe. South Africa ranks as one of the top birding destinations in the
world - the North West being no exception.
