Sacramento, CA 3 Backed by Industry Leaders StormNET is approved by FEMA and all state and federal government agencies. StormNET’s SWMM analysis engine is a collaborative effort between Camp Dresser & McKee (CDM) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). SWMM is the most widely applied stormwater and wastewater model in North America, with universal acceptance in Spatial variability in all of these processes is achieved by dividing a study area into a collection of smaller, homogeneous subcatchment areas, each containing its own fraction of pervious and impervious sub-areas. Overland flow can be routed between sub-areas, between subcatchments, or between entry points of a drainage system. the North American regulatory community and a dedicated SWMM user Network Modeling Elements community that numbers in the thousands. CDM was one of the initial StormNET provides a variety of modeling elements to select developers of SWMM, and has continued to support and enhance the from:Watershed subbasins engine over the years in conjunction with the EPA. Hydrology Modeling Capability StormNET includes the following hydrology models to determine drainage area runoff: • USEPA SWMM 5.0 (imports and exports XPSWMM™ and EPA SWMM v 4.4 and earlier) • NRCS (SCS) TR-55 • NRCS (SCS) TR-20 • Rational Method • Modified Rational Method • DeKalb Rational Method • Santa Barbara Unit Hydrograph • Delmarva Unit Hydrograph • Long-Term Continuous Simulation • Maricopa & Pima Counties (Arizona) Papadakis-Kazan methodology • Harris County (Texas) Method • LA County MODRAT2 and F0601 (in development) • CUHP Colorado Urban Hydrograph Procedure (in development) • WWHM Western Washington Hydrology Model (in development) • HEC-1 (in development) • HEC-HMS (in development) • And more… StormNET accounts for various hydrologic processes that produce runoff from urban areas, including: • Time-varying rainfall • Evaporation of standing surface water • Snow accumulation and melting • Rainfall interception from depression storage • Infiltration of rainfall into unsaturated soil layers • Percolation of infiltrated water into groundwater layers • Interflow between groundwater and the drainage system • Inlets and catch basins • Detention ponds • Complex outlet structures • Flow dividers, standpipes, weirs, orifices, inflatable rubber dams, and valves • Stormwater and wastewater sewers • Pumps and lift stations • Manholes and junctions • Rivers, streams, and ditches • Culverts and bridges StormNET is a link-node based model that performs hydrology, hydraulic, and water quality analysis of stormwater and wastewater drainage systems, including sewage treatment plants and water quality control devices. A link represents a hydraulic element (i.e., a pipe, channel, pump, standpipe, culvert, or weir) that transports flow and constituents. There are numerous different link element types supported by StormNET. A node can represent the junction of two or more links, the location of a flow or pollutant input into the system, or as a storage element such as a detention pond, retention pond, settling pond, or lake. Easy Model Development StormNET is easy to learn and use. StormNET models can be quickly developed using a variety of different sources. For example, network components can be directly imported from AutoCAD, MicroStation, and ArcGIS, and can be interactively created using a mouse by simply pointing and clicking. Or, develop and analyze your entire stormwater network model within AutoCAD Civil 3D using the StormNET Civil 3D version. Graphical symbols are used to represent network elements such as manholes, pipes, pumps, weirs, ditches, channels, and detention ponds. StormNET allows you, at any time, to interactively add, insert, delete, or move any network element, automatically updating the model. For example, selecting and moving a manhole automatically moves all connected pipes, ditches, channels, and pumps. • Nonlinear reservoir routing of overland flowCulverts and bridges 4 Pipes can be curvilinear and lengths automatically computed. Scanned aerial orthophoto TIFF images and maps; Mr. SID high-resolution orthophotos; ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and MicroStation files of streets, parcels, • Apply user-defined dynamic control rules to simulate the operation of pumps, orifice openings, and weir crest levels • And more… and buildings can be imported and displayed as a background image. This feature allows the user to quickly digitize a network model, confirm the network layout, or simply enhance the output modeling results. Moreover, the user can point to or click on any network manhole, pipe, pump, weir, ditch, channel, or detention pond from the horizontal plan view to quickly determine the defined input data and output modeling results. Hydraulic Modeling Capability Interconnected Detention Pond Modeling StormNET enables accurate routing in complex detention pond situations. In some situations, downstream conditions can cause backwater effects that influence the performance of a detention pond outlet structure. For example, an upstream pond may discharge to another downstream pond that is similar in elevation or influenced by downstream flooding. Such situations can result in a decrease in outlet discharges or flow reversal back into the pond and can be difficult to StormNET contains a flexible set of hydraulic modeling capabilities used model properly. Most approaches attempt to simplify the problem using to route runoff and external inflows through the drainage system network overly conservative assumptions about the downstream water surface of pipes, channels, storage/treatment units, and diversion structures. conditions that result in oversized detention facilities and increased StormNET can simultaneously simulate dual drainage networks (storm- costs. Mankato, MN 7 StormNET provides both kinematic wave and full hydrodynamic wave routing for performing hydraulic analysis. Kinematic wave routing provides a non-linear reservoir formulation for channels and pipes, including translation and attenuation effects that assume the water surface is parallel to the invert slope. This method cannot simulate backwater or reverse flow. Dynamic wave routing solves the complete St. Venant equations throughout the drainage network and includes modeling of backwater effects, flow reversal, surcharging, looped connections, pressure flow, tidal outfalls, and interconnected ponds. Flow can also be routed through a variety of different storage elements, such as detention ponds, settling ponds, and lakes. Sophisticated GIS Capabilities StormNET can share spatial data and visual representation of the stormwater and wastewater sewer network with any ArcGIS or MapInfo GIS database, allowing StormNET to be part of the stormwater and wastewater management and planning system. These capabilities can greatly assist in the decision-making processes for network asset inventory, rehabilitation requirements, and financial planning. StormNET can intelligently build a link to any GIS database structure, using attribute mapping and geocoding. For example, a manhole and sewer pipe can be represented as a node and arc in the originating GIS database while still being linked with StormNET. Also, StormNET solution results can be posted back to the original GIS database, allowing locations of CSO and Advanced Output SSO points, manhole overflows, pipe surcharging, and floodplain flooding StormNET’s graphical capabilities are unparalleled, providing horizontal to be quickly identified. plan plots, profile plots, and time series plots. On the horizontal plan plot, StormNET provides automatic color-coding of links and nodes based upon any input or output property, allowing the network to be color-coded based upon pipe sizes, flow rates, velocities, hydraulic grades, water quality concentrations, or any other attribute. Directional flow arrows can be plotted alongside the pipes to show the flow direction for any time step. Furthermore, pipes can be plotted with variable width and nodes with variable radius, allowing the user to quickly identify those areas of “I really like the routing and graphical display of data, as well as the export capabilities to MS Excel and Word.” Spencer Uminski CLC Associates, Inc. Salt Lake City, UT the network experiencing the most surcharge, flow, pollutant concentration, etc. StormNET will automatically generate graphical animations for both horizontal plan plots and profile plots which show values that change with respect to time. Multiple animations can be performed simultaneously, allowing the user to plot several different profiles and watch all the results along that profile line, each in a separate window. Displays of multiple animation views are automatically synchronized. Multiple time-series plots can be generated for various network elements, such as pipe flow, velocity, pollutant concentration, and loading. In addition, StormNET allows the user to display and compare multiple result files simultaneously as either horizontal plan plots, profile plots, or time-series plots. This allows direct comparison between different simulation models. StormNET can plot analysis results on the horizontal plan and can generate profile plots, hydrograph plots, and animated plots. 8 Sophisticated Data Management StormNET uses the Microsoft Access database engine for storing and manipulating network data. This provides unlimited flexibility for defining and modifying the network data. For example, you can perform QBE (Query By Example) and/or SQL (Structured Query Language) database queries to select those pipes having a specific diameter, shape, roughness, etc. and then make global changes to this selected data. Database query results can be displayed graphically (by highlighting the selected elements in the horizontal plan view), in tabular format, printed, or copied to other applications using the Windows clipboard. This same query facility can be used for visualization of computational results such as pipe flows, water surface elevations, water quality concentrations, etc. StormNET Training Powerful Report Generation BOSS International provides standardized and customized training for Comprehensive, easy-to-read input data and output analysis reports can StormNET—the most powerful stormwater management software be automatically generated using the provided drainage report available.
