After solid 2015, MPW expecting sweet `16
MPW Leader Dear MPW Associate: After solid 2015, MPW expecting sweet ’16 January 2016 As we file away 2015 alongside so many other good years at MPW Industrial Services, it is important to not only reflect on our accomplishments, but to find methods for improvement as we move into 2016. Company-wide results for 2015 will be 12-percent growth in gross sales over 2014. This progress gives us an optimistic outlook as we continue to invest in talented people and innovative equipment. Some other highlights from 2015: • Corporate reorganization. • Increased awareness of the MPW brand through articles placed in The Columbus Dispatch, Columbus CEO, Beaumont (Texas) Business Journal and multiple trade publications. • Significant growth in engagement via MPW’s social media platforms. The new year will bring a number of significant improvements to MPW. The first — and most critical — is ensuring we are diligent with regard to our continuous improvements in safety. We will be going through a complete overhaul of the safety program. The company’s goal continues to be a Total Recordable Incident Rate of less than 1. Within the last 12 years, we have only hit that goal once as an organization. That is not to say some areas of the company haven’t been very successful. MPW is looking at a number of areas to support the changes. The new Intelex System will better manage observations, incidents and provide us with meaningful data of leading and lagging indicators. The company will also increase the usage of best-practice sharing across the company, designing around potential risks, advancing vendor support, establishing baseline benchmarks and more. An enhanced Web presence will be another 2016 advancement at MPW. Current projects include the redesigns of mpwservices.com and portakleen.com to enhance yet simplify the user experience and optimize for increased traffic via mobile devices. We will also build a new e-commerce site for Industrial Water that will allow customers to purchase aftermarket products directly from the website. MPW is looking forward to two major openings in 2016 — the Technology Center, which broke ground last July, and a new facility in Georgetown, S.C. MPW aims to debut each site by the end of this summer. The Georgetown location will be home to an ICG branch and a regeneration plant for Industrial Water, illustrating MPW’s increasing emphasis on efficiencies gained by sharing buildings, equipment and other resources across divisions. To facilitate this evolution, MPW Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing Jim Neville will lead a team specializing in cross selling (escalating the sales of MPW services to businesses which are customers of only one MPW business unit) and corporate selling (marketing the entirety of the MPW brand). There are many examples of how MPW has utilized its wide scope of services to become a single-source solutions provider. On Page 2 you will find a story about how the Water and ICG divisions collaborated to provide substantial results to our client while simultaneously uncovering a new revenue stream for MPW. This case study exemplifies MPW at its best. Congratulations on an outstanding 2015. Let’s make 2016 even better. Jared Black www.mpwservices.com In memoriam: Brandon Sega It is with a heavy heart that MPW Industrial Services dedicates the MPW Leader to Brandon Sega. and played baseball. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, where he also played baseball and was an active member and leader of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Sega, who worked for the Marketing Department for just over two years as a graphic designer and photographer, was essential to the visual communication of MPW and Porta Kleen, managing the layout for MPW Leader, as well as brochures, calendars, advertisements, posters, flyers and other pieces of sales collateral. Sega, age 25, passed away tragically on New Year’s Eve when the vehicle in which he was a passenger was struck by another motorist in Columbus. Sega graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 2009, where he ran cross country To honor Brandon’s contributions, donations may be made to the “Sega Heart of Leadership Foundation” at any Huntington Bank location or by sending checks to Huntington National Bank In Care of OWU, Sega Heart of Leadership Foundation, 61 S. Sandusky St., University Advancement Office, Delaware, Ohio, 43015. These funds will go to support a student that embodies Brandon’s spirit as an artist, athlete and leader. Riggle’s service reflects positive MPW culture MPW Industrial Services would like to sincerely thank Midwest District Health and Safety Manager Brian Riggle, who pulled over to help a man change a blown tire Nov. 30 on U.S. Route 33 in Meigs County. In a letter of appreciation to Monte Black, the man wrote: “I am a 60+-year-old man with arthritic hands and was struggling to change my tire. Brian came to my assistance and had the tire changed in a short period of time. He was pleasant, informative and represented your company in a very professional way. I checked out your website and learned about your organization, its history and service. My experience with MPW, though not as a customer, shows me that you are a quality organization and I know that is true because of my experience with the people that work for you.” Brian’s actions are a great example of how service, one of the core values in MPW’s mission statement, can be utilized to represent MPW. Thanks again to Brian and all the other MPW employees who go the extra mile every day. Brian Riggle Cross-selling success: Eversource Merrimack Station Problem A long-standing customer for MPW Industrial Services’ Industrial Water Division, Eversource Merrimack Station is a coal-fired power plant in Bow, N.H. In early 2015, it came to the attention of IW Regional Sales Manager Clark Briggs that the plant would need to have its cyclone boilers cleaned during an upcoming outage. MPW competitors, which had performed the service for this plant in the past, would not be available. Solution Briggs called ICG Area Sales Manager Ian Hamilton, who immediately contacted the client regarding the cyclone cleaning. With Hamilton’s help, Briggs submitted one, all-encompassing proposal to the client. MPW won the opportunity to complete the job. MPW used its automated cyclone cleaning technology on Eversource’s cyclone boilers as well as 3D heads and nozzles mounted on a wire to clean back passes. Industrial Water contributed to this project by pre-filtering the plant’s source water, creating a loop of filtered water for use in the cleaning process. Plant personnel were impressed with MPW’s unique ability to accomplish all of the detailed steps of this process. Results The project lasted six days with no safety issues. Anniversaries On a Job Performance Evaluation, Eversource Operations Maintenance Advisor John M. Smith awarded MPW with “Very Satisfied” (the highest available rating) on all key performance indicators. Smith told Hamilton that MPW had “the most professional crew he had ever seen.” • 26 Year VICTOR PYLES • 9 Year KALE HOLBROOK ROBERT JORDAN AGUSTIN ZAVALA AARON THOMPSON TIMOTHY MEDFORD EDWARD SMITH CHRISTOPHER MOORE • 21 Year SHANE DEFAZIO • 18 Year WILLIAM BURTON • 8 Year JEROME POLITE ROBERT CASSELBERRY ZACHARY PORTER THOMAS TUPPS AARON TURK JAMES POWERS RICKY SMITH • 14 Year BENJAMIN NELSON WILLIAM MILLER • 7 Year DAVID HERMAN MICHAEL DUNLAP • 20 Year RANDY NIESER This performance will allow ICG to bid for future services at this location. • 19 Year GREGORY PELFREY Clark Briggs Briggs said the communication process between MPW and the customer went extremely well, especially considering all parties’ hectic schedules during outage season.
