tion hopes may have gone on the
back of Saturday's 1-0 loss to
Bassendean Caledonian at the
Geraldton Telstra Shop Arena.
Alexander Fazekas swooped on a
clumsy goal kick by the Reds and
slotted the ball past Adam Friday 30
minutes into the second half.
The Reds were hopeful a win over
fourth-placed Bassendean would
keep alive their dream of an ascent
to the MySolar third division.
Football West is believed to be
lining up promotion to the top four
finishers. This is to accommodate
for a new Saturday competition.
Though the concept is yet to be
confirmed, Italiano said any chance
his team had looked to have passed.
"We've just got to win all of our
games and hope that the teams
above us lose. There's a lot of luck
that needs to go our way," he said.
Injuries didn't help the Reds'
cause. Centre-back Josh Duncan
(ankle) left the field after just
minutes and Thomas Arthurs pulled
a hamstring minutes after coming

a safari park, where they
enjoyed a South African
barbecue.
While they were at the
safari park, they "did as
locals do", even if it was
slightly left of centre.
"It involved picking up
dried animal droppings and
believe it or not spitting it
as far as you could,"
Nelkovski said.
"It's a bit of a local
tradition, so why not?"

said it was a chance for a
squad in transition to get to
know each other better,
under the guidance of coach
Ian Ferguson.
"It was important to get
them together over a period
of time so that they could
bond," Kelly said.
"But the priority was
training. It wasn't a holiday;

has visited Albany over the past
three days promoting the sport
of soccer.
Visiting Albany for only the
second time, Harnwell said he
loved venturing out into the
country regions.
"Something I was briefed on
when I got the job was getting
out to the regions and using my
profile as a former Glory player
to promote football," he said.
"It is the first time I have been
to Albany since I came on a

PERTH Glory legend and Football West development
officer Jamie Harnwell was in Albany this week to
promote the sport.
Harnwell's visit included basic coaching sessions at
schools and more intense workshops with country week
teams and high performance players.
He also gave a coaching course for coaches.
Harnwell said it was important to ensure there was
a definite pathway for junior players to senior level to
ensure they remained in the sport.
"There are massive numbers playing juniors, not only
here in Albany but in Perth," he said. "We want to make
sure they keep playing as they get older."
Harnwell has been with Football West since April
and part of his brief was to get out into the regions.
"It's good to get out and promote the game," he said.
"Albany is the last stop of my state-wide tour."

MANJIMUP Rovers beat Bunbury Dynamos men, but
lost to Harvey women at a wet and windy Collier Street
complex on Sunday.
The women's game was a late kick-off due to Harvey
not making the venue on time and Manjimup had their
eight stalwarts ready for battle.
Martjimup were caught napping when Harvey scored
their first goal of a closely fought game by Rovers, with a
final score of 6-4 to the visitors.
Team captain Candice Barley lead from the front and
netted Rovers' first goal with a solo run through the
centre.
Rovers' second goal came when Rebecca Fall accurately headed a Megan Smith centering corner to find the
back of the Harvey net.
The second half saw some field changes for Rovers
when coach Eric Scott put Megan Smith in goal and Caitlin Prunster from defence to an unfamiliar role up front.
The home side showed the same determination but was
out-numbered and could not cover all bases.
However Prunster showed her versatility by scoring
two goals for Rovers, leaving a very respectable final
score of 6-4 to the visitors.
The men's game should have been a foregone conclusion for visiting first division league leaders Bunbury
Dynamos. However, Manjimup Rovers played one of the
best games this season beating the visitors 4-1.
Most of the game was played in heavy wind-blown
rain which seemed to suit the home side.
Dynamos played as a well-drilled unit but were lacking
in front of goal, unable to punish Rovers when mistakes
were made.
Rovers' Mark Gale opened the scoring at the 13th min-
ute from an indirect free kick inside the box taken by
Brian Ross.
The green and gold gelled on the day and played with
more self-belief which culminated in Tallon Burns scoring two goals before half time and finishing the day with
a sizzling hat-trick at the 61st minute.
Rovers' women play a re-scheduled match next
Saturday versus Dynamos and on Sunday the men host
Blackwood United in the SWSA Cup semi-final, both games to be played at home.

WA:Revamp of WA rugby stadium a step closer
PERTH, Aug 23 AAP - The redevelopment of Western Australia's premier rectangular stadium is a
step closer with the state government wrapping up negotiations with the local council.
WA Premier Colin Barnett handed a $5 million cheque to the City of Vincent on Tuesday as part of taking
over the lease for nib Stadium; the home of Super Rugby side the Western Force and A-League team
Perth Glory.
The $95 million redevelopment will get under way in July or August next year and include a new twotiered eastern grandstand, which is currently an unsheltered, temporary scaffolding structure.
About $7 million will be spent on corporate facilities, and the turf will be upgraded.
Sports Minister Terry Waldron said it became evident the stadium wasn't up to scratch at the Rabbitohs
versus Broncos NRL game in June, when heavy rains turned the field into a dam and left fans soaked.
"We need those good facilities particularly for the general public (because) if you were there for the
Broncos-South Sydney game, with the weather, it's just not good enough," he said.
The $5 million cheque is expected to be spent partly on the refurbishment of the Beatty Park Leisure
Park whose pool was the centrepiece of the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games.
However, City of Vincent Mayor Nick Catania said the council still had to determine how much would
actually be spent on the historic venue.
"It's $5 million the government has given to us and the government doesn't say you've got to spend it on
Beatty Park, but the majority of it will of course," Mr Catania said.
The $17 million redevelopment of the 50-year-old facility will see a new 10-lane pool, a complete
upgrade of the dive pool and improved gym facilities.
Mr Barnett told reporters he was old enough to remember when Beatty Park was the site of the "golden
days of Australian swimming with Dawn Fraser and Murray Rose winning gold medal after gold medal".
The premier said as well as the $5 million upfront payment, the government would spend $25,000 a year
to lease the site of nib stadium.
