KAPPA CARDINALS IN MEAC CHEER COMPETITIOM The Kappa Cardinals Competition Cheer Squad takes on the MEAC The Kappa Cardinals Competition Cheer Squad was an exhibition performing group during the 2016 MEAC Cheer Competition on Sunday, March 6 PHI-NOOPY NEWS LETTER at Joe Echols Arena on the campus of Norfolk State University. The cheerleaders and their coaches are to be commended for a fantastic exhibition. "we are proud of you!" Sponsored by the Menhville House which is a 501(3)c forty six-bed emergency housing facility for homeless families in Newport News, all proceeds from the event support this worthwhile For the 4th consecutive community based organization year the Hampton/ewport which works with other homeNews Chapter has supless service providers and social service agencies that offer families the services and support needed to return to self-sufficiency. For the last four years, Brother Joe Biggers has represented the Chapter by preparing and serving his turkey sausage and seafood gumbo to approximately 300 guests who pay $35 to sample culinary delights from men who participate from throughout the community. Community service and mentoring are the business of Kappa Alpha Psi! The world would be hard pressed to find any organization or individual who gives more when it comes to fulfilling the spirit of volunteerism, scholarship, technical assistance, financial support, creating opportunities for youth, educational awareness, and mentoring. This has moved our Guide Right and Kappa League organization far ahead of others, as a premier servant- leader! Honored At The 2016 Exemplar Murray Center, 455 E. Brambleton Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia. Please Awards bring your Kappa Leaguers since they and you will participate in the awards ceremony. Please also plan to participate in the Youth Mentors' Conference Thursday and Friday. If you find a topic that interests you, please consider being a presenter or participating on a panel. The Youth Mentors' Conference and Retreat details are enclosed. Congratula- Your Guide Right- Kappa Leaguers and chapter have been selected as two of the 2016 Community service and Youth Development Honorees! As a part of our celebration, you are invited to attend the April 30, 2016 Community Service and tions! Youth Awards Brunch, from 9:30 until 11:30, at the Brandon Slade wins the Virginia High School Indoor Shot Put State Championship Brandon Slade; a scholar athlete at Bethel High School, Hampton, VA and current president of the Hampton-Newport News Kappa Youth Leadership and Achievement League, won the Virginia High School League State Indoor Shot Put Championship today with a toss of 51'1". The meet was held at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. Please join the members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and its Kappa League in congratulating Brandon for his outstanding ACHIEVEMENT. Brandon Slade “State Champion” PAGE 4 All White Kasino Night The Brothers of the Hampton-Newport News (VA) Alumni Chapter will be hosting our annual All White Kasino Night. This event is one of the best PHI-NOOPY NEWS LETTER Kasino Night event in the Fraternity and it provides that Klassy Las Vegas feel without the cost of the trip. This event will be held on 4 June 2016, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center (HRCC), 1610 Coliseum Drive, Hampton, VA 23666. See attached flyers for event details. Rooms can be reserve at the Embassy Suite & Hotel (right next to HRCC) by using group code "KAP" the rate is $117.00 (w/taxes $136.99) that includes your breakfast and manager's special snack. The reservation number 757827-8200 (ask for reservations). All proceeds go towards our Kappa Alpha Psi Achievement Foundation a 501(c) (3) taxexempt organization which provides Scholarships (10), Guide Right, Mentoring, Tutoring, and support to our Youth Athletic Programs. VOLUME 16, ISSUE 1 PAGE 4th Annual Kappa Klassic Join us for our 4th Annual Kappa Klassic on Saturday, June 11, 2016. Format: “Four Man Scramble Captain’s Choice” – $90 per golfer and $360 per foursome. The general registration fee for an individual golfer is $90 or $360 per foursome. The general registration deadline is May 27th, 2016. After this date the cost for an individual is $110 or $440 per foursome. **Please register early** We are expecting a very large turnout – CUTOFF WILL BE 144 PLAYERS. The entry fee includes green fees, cart, range balls, golf, accessibility to the golf course’s facility, and a sit-down lunch at the awards reception. All players will receive a gift bag that will include golf accessories. There will be prizes awarded to the winning teams, raffles and contests throughout the tournament. Proceeds benefit our Kappa Alpha Psi Achievement Foundation which provides Scholarships, Guide Right, Mentoring, Tutoring, and support to our Youth Athletic Programs. Your support is greatly appreciated. Hampton-Newport News: 4th Annual Kappa Klassic 50 Year Members Of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Dennis Audel Patterson was born in Newport News Virginia, November 14, 1925. A graduate of Huntington High School Class of 1942, at the age of 16, initially attended Hampton Institute from 1942 until 1943. However, in 1943 he enlisted as a member of Cooper Union, U.S. Corps of Engineers and participated in WWII from 1943 until the end of the war, September 1945. Upon the end of the war Brother Patterson returned to Hampton Institute and continued his education from 1946 until 1948 where he graduated achieving a Masters of Electrician License by the age of 22. Brother Patterson became a member of the Hampton Institute Chapter, the Beta Chi of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., on April 19, 1947. Brother Patterson served as Beta Chi’s first Polemarch 1947-1948 fraternity years. He also served as Hampton-Newport News (VA) Alumni Chapter Polemarch for the 1953 – 1954 and 1956 – 1958 fraternity year. Brother Patterson has lived a long and historic life as a pioneer of his time and a true KAPPA MAN.
