Entertainment News
The Grand Final of the Bexley Bullseye Premier Darts was held on Saturday. The U17’s were well represented
by Charlie ‘Guinea Pig’ Guenigault, Dave ‘The Deviant’ Wenham and George ‘Baby Face’ Newell but the ‘older’
finalists were able to overcome their nerves and the young ones were left to fight another day. Dave ‘The Seal’
Sealey played to the crowd, whilst Ian ‘Norman’ Clark looked fetching in pink. Richard ‘The Boss’ O’Sullivan
was more concerned about watching the Bruce Springstein concert on Sky, so it came down to late runner,
Steve ‘The Tripod’ Course and Rick ‘Bulldog’ Melbourne to battle in the Final. Prepared to top match condition
by manager, Martin ‘Poser’ Pask, Rick scored consistently and regained the title, earning congratulatory kisses
from wife, Liz and daughter, Meghan, who lovingly stood watching all the rounds and eventually drove the
Champion home.
Jack Bell’s dulcet tones compeered the evening, whilst Alan ‘Hanson’ Atkins showed off his numeracy skills.
Nick Stroudley provided the amusing video clips and music to give extra atmosphere to the evening.
The crowd showed their appreciation by drinking the bar dry and heckling the contestants. Some showed off
in other ways but the less said about that .............!!
News from Absent Friends
John Taylor – has ‘bowled a maiden over’ and ties the knot with
Sarah Hoyle on the 25th July at Brook Church on the Isle of Wight.
Chris Woolley is doing the honours as Best Man and so is unavailable
for cricket selection or any kit questions that weekend!!
Michael Ladbrook – with Rebecca and little Sophie, return to Bexley on 31st July for 4 weeks.
Michael hopes to be back in some kind of action during Cricket Tour Week. Have a safe journey.
Dr James Rumbles MBBS – Congratulations to
James, who is now a Batchelor of Medicine, Batchelor of
Surgery. Someone has seen fit to assign James to a Breast and
Endocrine Surgical Team in Norfolk’s James Paget Hospital, for
his first posting!!
Daniel Levy – U15, an ex Bexley colt seen last Friday at
Sandwich Town CC, looking fit and chirpy, says Hi to those
who remember him, especially Sue Towers.
Robin and Callum Putney, seen at Broadstairs CC, also say Hi to everyone and hope to see you
during Cricket Week.

Latest Match News
Saturday saw only one Bexley Senior game completed
due to freak weather that started with hot sun,
changed to thunder, lightening and monsoon rain and
ended with hailstones, the size of golf balls.
Saturday, the 1st XI hosted Beckenham who were put into bat first by Bexley. Beckenham smashed 342
for the loss of 7 wickets. Steve Silver took 4 wickets for 47 off 8 overs along with a catch, whilst Babar
Khan took 2 for 87 off 11 overs. Bexley were 158 for 4 wickets in 31 overs, with Babar Khan top scoring
on 70 before being caught, when the game was abandoned to hailstones.
The 2nd XI travelled to Lorsdwood who batted first and put on 291 for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs.
John Childs took 2 wickets for 38 off 8, Steve Rudduck also took 2 for 45 off 7 and even Dave Pask
turned his arm to take a wicket for 19 off 3. Dan Haley and Chris Pinnock took 2 catches each. Bexley
were on 97 for the loss of 3 in 23.3 overs, with Dan Haley on 64* when adverse weather caused the
game to be abandoned.
The 3rd XI were at Loring Hall against RASRA Eagles. Fielding first, Bexley restricted RASRA to 140 all
out, with Matt Cheesbrough taking 5 for 26 off 7.5. Taking catches again made the difference, with
some very athletic moves from Steve King, Nick Stroudley and Rick Melbourne. Jack Wells and Ryan
Griggs opened, batting well with lightening flashing all around them. With Jack Wells on 65* and just 21
runs needed to win, the heaven’s opened and not only did it rain but hail stones pelted the wicket. The
team resorted to bowling ice balls as the game was abandoned.
The 4th XI played at HSBC and totally escaped the rain. Batting first, Bexley reached 191 for the loss of 7
wickets. Alec Towers top scored with 52 and Grant Houghton made 49 before being bowled. HSBC 2nd
XI reached 154 in their 50 overs for the loss of 9 wickets. Tom Warwick took 3 wickets for 44 off 15 and
a catch, Ian Clark took 2 for 44 off 11, Ian Mobey also took 2 wickets for 11 off 8 and Alec and Gareth
Jones took 2 catches each.
The 5th XI travelled to Gravesham to play their 1st XI and had to abandon the game after making 258 for
the loss of 6 wickets and declaring after 38 overs. George Lush top scored with 77 and Henry Pickering
made 52. Bexley had Gravesham restricted to 133 for 7 in 26 overs, when again the game had to be
abandoned due to the weather. George Wood took 2 for 22 off 6, Max Pickering took 2 for 33 off 5 and
brother, Henry, also took 2 for 22 off 7 overs.
The 6th XI had no fixture this week.
The Development Team were due to play Tunbridge Wells last Sunday at home but the game was
cancelled due to a waterlogged pitch.
Sunday sees the next round of the Conference Cup against Waltham CC at Manor Way. Come down
and cheer on the Sunday 1st XI. Hopefully the weather will be kind.

Team of the Week – 3rd XI
The 3rd XI enjoy their Saturday’s whilst still performing, to stay top of their league. Captain Rick
watches Strouds and Pask practise their catching, whilst Kingy corrects their technique. ‘Catches
win Matches’ is their match winning motto.

Colts’ News
Congratulations to the U13’s for reaching the Final of the MCC U13 Spirit of Cricket
Kent Final to be played this Friday at the Mote CC. Support will be very welcome.
The U16’s played Gravesend at Manor Way in an exciting match. Batting first, Bexley reached 101 all out in
23.2 overs. Stanley Wells top scored with 31 and Sam Field made 23. In a very tight finish, Bexley restricted
Gravesend to 99 all out with the 2nd to last ball. Max Pickering took 3 wickets for 28 off 4, whilst brother,
Henry, took 2 wickets for 18 off 4 overs.
The U15’s home fixture against HSBC was cancelled due to water damage due to the heavy rain yesterday.
The U14’s were away to HSBC U15B’s. Batting first HSBC made 99 for the loss of 9 wickets in their 24 overs.
Pick of the Bexley bowlers were Jonathon Page with 3 wickets for 10 off 4, George Bland with 2 for 11 off 4 and
Jordan Parkinson also with 2 wickets for 16 off 4 overs. Jonathon Page and Henry Pickering took 2 catches
each. Unfortunately the Bexley batting line up could not capitalise on the good bowling and were all out for 78
in 20.4 overs. Micheal Maietta top scored on 19 and Alexander Picksley ran out of batting partners on 12*.
The U13’s in the Kent semi finals of the MCC Spirit of Cricket National Cup, played Sandwich Town CC away last
Friday. With an eye on the looming clouds, Sandwich scored 97 for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs, after
excellent fielding and another fine catch from Jordan Fisher, along with a run out. Harry Chapman took 4
wickets for 18 off 4 and Harry Furze 2 wickets also for 18 off 4 overs. Angus Dalgleish retired on 31* and Harry
Chapman was on 19 not out as Bexley reached the total for the loss of 4 wickets with 2 balls left of the match.
They play Blackheath in the Final at the Mote CC, starting at 6.00 pm.
The U13’s also played a friendly 40 over game against the U13’s London School’s team last Sunday at Alleyns in
Dulwich. Bexley were put into bat first on a very humid afternoon, with ominous clouds building up. On an
‘interesting’ wicket, Bexley despite an uneven bounce, got off to a good start before a flurry of quick wickets
raised the opposition’s spirits. The middle order steadied things, batting sensibly and the tail enders finished
positively, pushing the final score to 159 for the loss of 9 wickets. George Haley top scored with 39 and Tommy
Lee Spicer scored 30. London School’s reached the total in 36 overs for the loss of 5 wickets. Harry Furze took
3 wickets for 23 off 7 overs.
The U12’s replayed their U12 Cup ¼ Final against Chislehurst & West Kent last Wednesday. Winning the toss,
C&WK put Bexley into bat this time. Openers, Aiden Griggs and Cameron Fisher, batted positively and both
retired on 26* and 27*, Ajay Bungar, mainly ran an excellent 26* and Dave Dixon was 10* with Bexley finishing
on 166 for the loss of 6 wickets in their 24 overs. The lads, back to their chirpy, athletic selves, restricted
C&WK to 84 all out in 19.4 overs, with excellent catches, run outs and stumpings. The opposition struggled to
play spinners, Aiden, who took 4 wickets for 12 off 4 and Anish Patel, who took 2 for 15 off 4. They play
Bromley Common next away in the semi final.
The U11’s were away to Sidcup on Monday. Batting first, Sidcup put 150 on the board for the loss of 6 wickets
in 24 overs. Jake Stephens took 2 wickets for 17 off 4 and Ciaran Goddard also took 2 wickets for 10 off 3 overs.
Despite Jake’s splendid 35*, Bexley could not reach the required total and finished on 104 for 9 wickets in their
24 overs.
The U10’s again benefitted from coaches volunteering their time on a Sunday, this time to coach the lads with
their batting techniques. Going back to basics, the boys worked on front foot shots to help them defend their
wicket in matches. We hope to see more runs scored off the bat in their next match, along with their improved
bowling and fielding. THANK YOU to all those who helped.
The Girl’s team played Sidcup Girl’s on Friday. Batting first, Bexley Girls reached 118 for the loss of 5 wickets in
their 24 overs. Rebecca Franklin top scored with 15 retired and Emily Thompson made 12 before being bowled.
Sidcup reached the total in 22.4 overs without losing a wicket, to go 3-1 up in the series.

Congratulations – to Adam Ball on scoring 45 in his first senior Kent CCC 2nd XI match last
Wednesday against Minor Counties at the Beckenham ground.
Fantasy Cricket League - He may have taken a week off from the real stuff but Griggsy's
Manor Weigh Boyz have taken the top spot after week 9 of 19!
As there was no 6th team game this week, along with the several abandonments, no weekly prize is
available this week - sorry Dan. However **THE TRANSFER WINDOW IS NOW OPEN!**

Kit - As mentioned in previous newsletters, all orders for kit are now available and you should
contact Chris Woolley on 07775 595261 or [email protected] regarding collection of these
items.
For those that have not placed orders there are Cricket Shirts available in all sizes, there are also
some training shirts but only in Adult sizes Large and above, as all other sizes have sold out. These
items will be on sale on Friday evening and throughout the rest of the weekend. If you wish to
purchase a shirt but cannot make it to the club this weekend then please email or call Chris.
Reminder – The Bar Rota for Cricket Week is now pinned up on the bar for volunteers to sign
up for 2 hour stints. Please sign for your preferred slots and take note of the time you have
volunteered for. If everyone offered to do at least one slot, the load will be shared and the queues
shorter!
Any colts prepared to do short stints collecting glasses, will greatly help the smooth running of the
bar, especially on Monday, Thursday and Friday nights of Cricket Week. They can also sign on the
same rota.
Please Note – The BBQ will be organised and run by the Men’s teams during Cricket Week.
If
you or your son have played for a Senior team this season, please expect to be approached by a
team captain, who will ask for your services on a specific night.
If everyone volunteers in some way through the week, then, weather permitting, it could be the best
Cricket Week yet.

perform and entertain the appreciative audience.
