With grading now completed and new fixtures coming out, this round is a one day match for all age groups. Good luck to every one playing this week. We would like to congratulate Callum Spurrell on playing 50 junior games last round. Thankyou to Trevor and everyone else who has been helping out in the canteen, it has been a great success especially on Friday nights with Trev’s steak sandwiches , home made burgers etc selling like hot cakes. We receive lots of positive feedback from opposition teams re our facilities and services, so lets make sure we keep up the good work. Our Sportsman/fundraiser night has been set and will be on Wednesday 19th of November. We have confirmed a past Australian batsman as our guest speaker along with a magician for the night.. Thanks to Allen from Bowens we have acquired a wheel barrow and are starting to fill it up with heaps of goodies as our major prize in the raffle. We would really appreciate if people or businesses could donate something to add to the wheel barrow and other prizes. See back page for details. Don’t forget our back to nights coming up, there will be awards for players and a brief summary of rounds completed, we will also have a meat raffle on the night. Team Manager: TBA The under 10's played their first march for the season against Warranwood at Quamby reserve. The boys played well together and enjoyed their first hit out. Charlie Wyatt was the pick of the batsmen scoring 15 runs including 2 impressive four's, Cooper Adams made 13 and Jake McKenzie 12 runs. Liam Kear bowled well with the ball taking 2 successive wickets; putting himself on a hat-trick. Cooper Colledge bowled 1 for 8. The 'unofficial' scores Warranwood 99 - Wonga Park 82. Well Done boys Warren The under 10's played away this week against Warrandyte with Cooper Colledge as captain this week. After losing the toss we were sent into bat. The boys batted extremely well, with obvious improvements already showing through. Rhyan Foster made 24, hitting 5 boundaries, Jake McKenzie scored an impressive 20 and Liam Kear a constructive 18 including a huge 6 which easily cleared the boundary and made it's way out onto the roadway. The boys finished with 120 runs. Jake McKenzie impressed with bat and ball taking 2 for 19. He was supported by Ryan Atkinson who took 2 for 12, including a nice caught and bowled. The boys learnt the lesson of over throws in this game, with the opposition finishing on 156. Well done boys great effort!!! Round 2 vs Warrandyte Our first 2 day game for year was an exciting prospect … we always knew that Warrandyte would be a strong side and after a quick warm-up they won the toss and elected to bat first. The boys had all been bowling well during the week at training and I was sure we would continue to do so. For those who aren’t aware, the boys were all given some ‘Team Rules’ at the start of the season to give them targets to aim at during each game, one of those was to ensure we got 1 Run Out per game when we were fielding … so when Isaac swooped in on a ball and some unsure calling from the batsmen our first wicket of the innings was a Run Out – Warrandyte 1/20. A great way to start. Soon after we had our second wicket – 2/23 and things were looking even better! Unfortunately from there they dug in, had 2 batsmen retire, and by the end of their 23 overs they were 3/108. We then went in to bat for our 23 overs, opening the batting was Bailey & Ben Cox who both rose to the challenge. Keeping out the good balls (another one of our rules – Defend the good balls), but we didn’t put too much pressure on their bad balls and so scoring was quite slow. Bailey was out caught for a very hard fought 5 runs which bought Ben Parker to the crease … again scoring was slow and the light was fading fast. Ben then reached his 40 balls, batting very well and retired on 5. Our last few overs were seen out by Ben Parker & Ethan when bad light stopped play, we were 1/20 after 18 overs. I was very pleased with the effort, runs and scoring shots will come from confidence and experience in the middle, the way the boys put their heads down and worked hard was great to see. The next week saw us continue batting for our remaining 5 overs and then we started our remaining 23 overs. Scoring this week was a lot easier, we still missed out on some singles but again that will come from experience. Jordan (14), Nicky (19rt), Peerson (12rt) and Tom (11no) all batted very well and we put on another 86 runs to finish 5/106. Great work by all who batted … special mention to Isaac who came in with 3 balls remaining of our innings and turned the strike over to Tom for the last 2 balls. With only pride to play for, the boys came out and bowled & fielded very well. To have only bowled 23 No Balls/Wides for 43 overs was a great effort. Warrandyte ended up 5/197 after an additional 20 overs. The pick of the bowlers were Addy 1/5 off 3.0, Isaac 1/15 off 4.0, Peerson 1/16 off 4.0, Bailey 1/15 off 3.0 and Tom who kept again first week and then bowled 2 great but unlucky overs 0/3. Bring on next week … I can feel a win just around the corner! GILMOUR DRAINAGE Excavator Hire For all your drainage needs 0414 306 739 3 Sponsors Under 12/3’s: Coach: Bryan Boxshall. Team Manager: Matt Weeks. Round 2. For Round 2 we were at home playing against North Ringwood. We won the toss and chose to bat first. After our 23 overs we finished on 4/45. North Ringwood batted for their 23 overs and made 3/84. We came back on Friday to finish off the match with North Ringwood continuing to finish off their 46 overs. At the end of them they finished up with 6/140. There were a few standouts with the ball, Alex Taranto took 2 wickets in a row in his 3rd over (missed out on his hat-trick) to finish with 3/24 off 4 overs. Thomas Glide bowled very well again to finish with 1/5 off 5 overs including 2 maidens. Jarred Stone finished with 0/3 off 4 overs with 2 maidens. Adam Boxshall finished with 1/11 off 6 overs with 2 maidens. We went into finish off our 46 overs and managed to end up with 8/126. To give North Ringwood a 39 run lead at the end of the first day and too fall short by 14 runs at the end of the match was a credit to the team. They batted exceptionally well. The standout with the bat was Harry Harvey who finished with 30 not out. Jackson Nunziante finished with 13, Adam Boxshall with 11 and Thomas Glide with 10 (Retired.) A great effort once again. Keep up the great work. Matt Weeks Under 12/5’s: Coach: Tamas Deery. Team Manager: Brett Adams Round 2.. The under 12/5s played warrandyte in round 2. Wonga won the toss and Zach Russell who was captain for the day elected to bat. We got off to a slow start losing the first seven wickets for 24 runs. Lachlan mcbain batted well and retired while Cameron Atkinson was also not out at the end of the first day we were 8/67. Warrandyte batted and were in a commanding position after the first day on 4/75. The second day was a lot better for the boys, they dismissed warrandyte in 15 overs with Dylan, Tyson and Zach all taking two wickets and Cam Atkinson taking two great catches leaving warrandyte all out for 122. We needed to make 55 runs in our final innings with only two wickets in hand. This bought Cameron Atkinson and Lachlan Mcbain to the crease, they batted extremely well to put on a 97 run last wicket stand and win the game. Cam made 61 not out and Lachlan finished on 31 not out. Cheers Tamas GILMOUR DRAINAGE Excavator Hire For all your drainage needs 0414 306 739 4 Sponsors Under 14/1’s: Coach: Shane Champion. Team Manager: Luke Hoare Round 2. 14-1 Croydon Ranges Vs Wonga Park, at Silcock Reserve. Week 1. Wonga Park was put into bat by Croydon Ranges and we were able to steadily keep the runs ticking over. At the end of 50 overs we had set a great score of 2 for 235 with 3 not outs being Jack LeBrun 53 not out, Hayden Hoare 50 not out and Addison Forbes 55 not out. The highlight of the innings was a well timed 6 over square leg by Addison. Dan Schlueter chipped in with a well made 23 not out. Week 2. The bowling was spot on from the first over and the wickets started tumbling early, despite the opposition team manager reminding all Croydon Ranges batsmen to “hold you wicket and don’t go out”. Croydon Ranges were quickly bowled all out for 49 off 19 overs. All our bowlers performed well and the figures were Addison 2 wickets for 8, Dan 1 wicket for 8, Eden 3 wickets for 17, Zac 3 wickets for 16 and Bailen’s economical bowling of 4 straight maidens. With the first innings done, Wonga Park put Croydon Ranges back into bat after morning tea to play for an outright win. With a new mix of bowlers, Croydon Ranges hit out more in the second innings but still wickets continued to fall and finished all out for 136. Wicket takers for the second innings were Blake 2 wickets for 22, Jack 2 wickets for 36, Hayden 2 wickets for 25, Xavier 1 wicket for 12, Bailey 1 wicket for 11, Dan 1 wicket for 5 and Addison 1 wicket for 1. Eden toughed it out behind the stumps as keeper and took 2 catches and 1 stumping. A highlight was a magnificent diving catch running backwards by Dan Keane. Well done everyone. We were up against a very good bowling attack from Mooroolbark which proved to be quite difficult and by the 5th over we were 4/6. Then Lachlan Poli came in for his first game and batted very well to stay in for 9 overs in a 16 run partnership with Jordan Osborn before Lachy fell, then Jordan was ran out not long after. Matthew Phillips & Ethan Stone came together and batted out the remainder of our 25 overs finishing on 6/33. We started bowling and the boys bowled very well without giving away any easy runs or wides. Matty Phillips got an early wicket in his first over. Lachy Poli took a catch off Zac Duo. Pearson Lynch then picked up 2 wickets in his first over with Jett taking 2 catches. Thom Deany & Jake Guerin both picked up 1 wicket each to leave them on 7/44 after their 25 overs. Coming back the 2nd week we needed an early wicket to stay on top but unfortunately it didn't come and Mooroolbark then went on to make a 90 run partnership finishing on 9/146. Needing 113 with only 4 wickets in hand was going to be tough and ultimately it was after being all out for 52. The boys bowled really well in the first week and just need to be able to do that for 2 weeks in a row to have some really good results. Wonga Park vs Scoresby Venue: Scoresby Reserve Great weather for cricket & again we lost the toss, and this time bowling first. The dew on the ground meant the ball became a bit slippery and their openers got off to a good start scoring at about 4 an over for the first 10 overs, before we slowed their scoring later, to have them finish 3/93 with their opener having retired. Scoresby bowled very tightly, but our openers got through this period, and we managed to end up at 1/65 at the end of Day 1. This was a similar position to our first game, being behind on runs, but with extra wickets in hand we were confident heading into Day 2 Overcast conditions on Day 2, together with some overnight rain, meant that Scoresby had more trouble controlling their bowling line and length, which combined with our more aggressive batting and running between wickets we added an extra 100 runs to finish at 6/165, losing 4 wickets (3 run outs) in the chase for extra runs in the last 5 overs. Liam R (30) formed the backbone of the innings over both weeks with Dylan (40), with assistance from Tom Glide (11), Liam D (8) and Harrison (8no). The loss of late wickets, stalled our scoring slightly at the end of the innings. Our boys again bowled better on week 2, at one stage having taken 8/38 off the first 12 overs. With 13 Overs, 34 runs & 1 wicket required, Harrison & Dylan had been kept in reserve to counter the return of their opening batsmen. The boys agreed to have Harrison & Dylan bowl their 4 overs each to try to win the game. While both Harrison & Dylan bowled extremely well, we didn’t manage the elusive last wicket, with Scoresby passing us late in the 49th over. The boys who sacrificed their additional personal overs in favour of Harrison & Dylan, put the “team first” and should be congratulated. GILMOUR DRAINAGE Excavator Hire For all your drainage needs 0414 306 739 A great team effort again with the game played with great sportsmanship from both sides. Wickets were shared between Tom Glide (2/9), Liam D (2/10), Liam R (2/31), Harrison (1/6), Tyler (1/13) & Tom L (1/22). Lachy Keyhoe bowled his best over of the season. We played a near flawless game this round as a team, with only some minor lapses of concentration probably being the difference between losing and winning. If the boys bring this same endeavour each week is all I can ask – if they do they will achieve success more often than not. 7 Sponsors Under 16/1’s: Coach: Deon Voss. Team Manager: Craig Meadows. Round 2. Round 2 was our first game at home and we were also playing on the new pitch. Sam Hennessey was captain for this game and won the toss and decided to bat. Caylen opened up again with the Spuzz, coming off a duck in the first game, at the other end. The boys put on an excellent partnership of 754 before Caylen was out for 31. Cameron came to the wicket and he and Spuzz continued on, putting on another partnership of 75 before Spuzz was out for 70, his highest ever score. Ben Irvine batted at 4 and he and Cam put on 39 whilst lifting the run rate a little before they were both out within 7 runs of each other, Ben made 23 and Cam a very good 62. Two of the Sams, Meadows & Hennessey saw the day out and we finished at 4/198. A couple of runs short of our target of 200. Day 2 saw Macca back and he took the new ball with Sam H. After a slow but solid start it was Macca that got the break through with 2 wickets in an over to have Mooroolbark 2/19. Sam followed up shortly afterwards and Mooroolbark was 3/20. A partnership of 25 was broken by Caylen's spinners and then some big swinging from their number 65 took the score to 96 and gave them a sniff. It was Cam that got the break through with Ben Irvine taking the catch and then Sam King took the next 3 wickets including the big hitter well caught on the boundary. With the pressure off we relaxed a little and the last pair put on 22 before Kieren wrapped up the game with Mooroolbark all out for 128. GILMOUR DRAINAGE Excavator Hire For all your drainage needs 0414 306 739 Another solid effort from the boys with contributions from a number of players. Thanks again to our scorers for the game Anne-Maree Forbes and Richard Gates, the Spurrells and Bev for morning tea and Pete Bail and Pat Hennessey for helping out in the canteen. -Craig Meadows (Smeads) 0405-310-394 8 Sponsors Under 16/2’s: Coach: Anthony Crowe.
