Would You Like to be an Acolyte?
Bringing in the light of Christ to our Sunday service and then reminding us at
the end of the service that HIS light goes before us and shines through us as we
go out to the world, is such a beautiful symbol. The Worship Committee is
opening up the opportunity to serve as an acolyte ( ages 10 and up) and
communion element processional to ALL of the members of Evergreen. Our
teens have been doing an excellent job over the last few years, particularly
serving faithfully as acolytes. We are no longer restricting this serving
opportunity to 6th-10th graders. If you'd like to join in on this part of our
service, please contact Lavonda
Gosselin [email protected] by JULY 15TH. A new schedule goes
into effect on Aug 1. If you have specific dates you can/can not service please
include those in the email.

Helen B. Bennett Scholarship Application
Evergreen’s Helen Boyer Bennett Scholarship Fund was established in 1968 as a memorial to Helen Boyer
Bennett to provide financial assistance to our college students. Any Evergreen member or affiliate is eligible
to apply for a scholarship. Awards are determined by the applicant’s needs, the number of recipients and the
amount available for distribution. Due to investment rules, we will not receive the funds until July. Therefore, scholarships will be awarded in August.
Recipients are not obligated to repay these scholarships. They are awarded in love as part of our Christian
ministry. However, we encourage former recipients, as well as others, to contribute to this fund. All gifts
(memorials, etc.) are invested as part of the principal; thus, the initial gift is perpetuated and can be effectively
used regardless of the amount. Because distribution is made only from earnings, we have been able to award
several dozen scholarships since 1968 while the fund itself has grown to over $35,000.
A notation on the check will direct your contribution to the right account. Memorials are acknowledged, and
interested persons notified. Applicants may mail the form below to the church office. Please indicate if you
are receiving other scholarships. All applications are due to the church office by July 15, 2016.

STEPHEN MINISTRY UPDATE
Evergreen is now a Stephen Minister congregation. Stephen Ministers are laypeople—Christian men and
women—trained to provide one-to-one care to people experiencing a difficult time in life, such as grief,
divorce, job loss, chronic or terminal illness, relocation, or separation due to military deployment.
Stephen Ministers come from all walks of life. Their commonality? A passion for bringing Christ’s love
and care to people during a time of need. Since 1975, more than 600,000 people from more than 12,000
congregations and other organizations have been trained as Stephen Ministers. After Ashley returns from
Stephen Leader training in Dallas in July she will begin training members of our congregation to be Stephen Ministers. Then those ministers will be matched with people in need of care.
As we begin this new ministry, please pray for Ashley as she attends the Leader’s Training Course and
give thanks to God for this life-transforming ministry ahead of us.
JUNE 2016 AT MAMA TINAS
We know we have been together a long time when we experience the death of a special “guardian
angel” of a Mission Program like Mama Tinas. Her name was MAMA RECEE and one of the first
people to welcome EVERGREEN to our ministry together nearly ten years ago.
She would sit in the outer room greeting everyone as they entered. If a young person came in with
their underwear above their jeans, she would say , “ Now honey...I know you wouldn’t want your
grandmother to hear you came in to eat with us dressed less than your best. Now, you just go right
back out on the porch, pull those pants up and come back on in.. for a great meal. “
This week when we learned of Mama Recee’s death, there were wonderful testimonies of a woman
who gave her whole life attending to the needs of those she met, and the number of children she took
into her home.
So, when we served our meals this week, I tried to think of Mama Recee and the wonderful witness
she proved to be to all of us EVERGREENERS. We serve meals and hopefully HOPE… and without
Mama Recee, we will have to work a little harder at both.
Blessings to you all AND IF YOU HEAR GOD CALLING YOU “TO SERVE UP SOME HOPE” ,
WE ARE REALLY IN NEED OF COOKS…
Luv,
Dee

Fourth Sunday Summer Movies
For the months of July and August we will have an all church movie night on the Fourth Sunday of
the month. Bring your chair, blankets, snacks and friends to the fellowship hall to watch a kid
friendly (and also, fun for adults!) movie. The movie will begin at 6:30 each month! The schedule
is:
July 24: Wall-E. In the distant future, a small waste-collecting robot inadvertently embarks on a
space journey that will ultimately decide the fate of mankind.
August 28: Minions. Minions Stuart, Kevin and Bob are recruited by Scarlet Overkill, a supervillain who, alongside her inventor husband Herb, hatches a plot to take over the world.
