Design Guide Tweet, Tweet with Judi Watanabe ©2008 TVWeekly.com, Inc. Tweet, Tweet A little birdie told me… Judi is inspired by little birds singing outside her window to create a couple of paper crafting projects that are really “tweet”. Lots of textures are combined from origami papers to pearlescent watercolors and glazes to make this artistic venture a must-see! FEATURED PRODUCTS Stamp Camp • Build a Bird Set • Soft Tropical Vine Background • Sweet Little Flower Background • Text Background Rubber Stamp Concepts • Stamp Mounting System Yasutomo • Pearlescent Watercolors • Waterbrush • Peony Origami Papers • Handi Punch JudiKins • DG3 • Eclipse Tape • Detail Scissors • Folded Note Cards • Postcards • Black Permanent Inkpad • Permanent Stamp Cleaner • Paper Cords supplies • Dye-based Inkpads - Brown - Ochre - Colonial Blue Starting Your Project 1 Peel release paper from sticky side of Static Cling Cushion Mount, included in the Stamp Mounting Kit from Rubber Stamp Concepts. Adhere the three background stamps from Stamp Camp along with the Build A Bird Set, all from Stamp Camp to the sticky cushion. Carefully cut out each Background Stamp and all of the stamps in the Build A Bird Set using the Rubber Cutting Scissors also included in the Rubber Stamp Concepts Kit. When all of the stamps are cut out, place them on the 3-ring Plastic Storage Sheets in the Stamp Mounting Kit. ©2008 TVWeekly.com, Inc. Tweet, Tweet There are several sizes of Acrylic Blocks included in the Stamp Mounting System. Place the Tropical Flower Background Stamp from Stamp Camp on the appropriate-sized Acrylic Block. 2 Ink the Background Stamp with Brown dye-based ink pad. Stamp onto a cream Postcard from JudiKins. Clean the stamp before peeling it off of the Acrylic Block and replacing it on the Plastic Storage Sheet. 3 Mount the Sweet Little Flower Background from Stamp Camp on an appropriate-sized Acrylic Block. Ink stamp with ochre dyebased inkpad. Over-stamp the image on top of the first image stamped on the Postcard. Clean stamp before peeling it off the Acrylic Block and replace it on the Plastic Storage Sheet. Mount the Text Background Stamp from Stamp Camp on an Acrylic Block. Ink this stamp with colonial blue dye-based ink and over-stamp the image on top of the images stamped in Steps 2 and 3. 4 Tweet, Tweet 5 Mount the wing (tip points to right as you look at stamp on plastic sheet) of the larger bird from the Build A Bird Stamp Set onto Acrylic Block. Ink with Black Permanent Ink from JudiKins and stamp wing in the middle of the background stamped in Steps 2, 3, and 4. Without re-inking stamp the wing a second time on a small piece of Eclipse Tape from JudiKins. Cut out this image—this is the mask of the wing. Place the mask over the wing stamped on the background. Clean stamp before returning it to the plastic storage sheet. Mount the body (beak points to the left as you look at stamp on plastic sheet) of the larger bird from the Build A Bird Stamp Set onto Acrylic Block. Ink with Black Permanent Ink and stamp on the background, stamping over the masked wing already there. 6 Stamp the eye of the bird with the same Permanent Black Ink. Stamp two legs for the bird. Remove the wing mask. 7 Attach the large crown from the Build A Bird set to an Acrylic Block. Ink with Black Permanent Ink and stamp so that crown is positioned on the head of the bird. This is easy to do because you can see where you are stamping with the Acrylic Block system. Tweet, Tweet Color the image. Open the Watercolor Palette from Yasutomo. Lightly mist the entire palette of watercolor cakes with a Spray Mister from JudiKins. 8 Fill the Waterbrush from Yasutomo with water. Activate the copper cake of watercolor with the Waterbrush and paint the crown. 9 Clean the Waterbrush on a piece of paper towel before picking up the bronze from the Watercolor Palette. Watercolor the top half of the bird and also the wing with the bronze color. Because the background images were stamped with dye-based inks they will blend in with the bronze watercolor being applied now. Be careful not to “over” color—this will add too much water to the image. Practice will help you achieve just the right pressure to insure the best color with the Watercolor Brush. To really make the bird pop-off the background add a glaze with DG3, an art gel from JudiKins. Squeeze a small amount of DG3 onto the bird. Spread with the Waterbrush. Be sure to add some DG3 to the crown as well. As the DG3 dries the bird is really accentuated and seems to pop off the page. 10 Tweet, Tweet 11 When dry, cut background and image to 3 3/4” square. Adhere to a 4 1/4” square of gold cardstock and then to a top-folded 5 1/2” square card with Trio Adhesive. Birdie pin and earrings Stamp large bird and matching wing separately on patterned Origami Paper from Yasutomo. Repeat with smaller bird images only (no wings this time). 1 Adhere stamped Origami Paper to a plain Postcard from JudiKins and then to a Gold Shimmer scrap of cardstock also from JudiKins. This will give the finished pin and earrings enough weight to be worn repeatedly. 2 Watercolor images with shades from the Watercolor Palette from Yasutomo to match the Origami Paper. Add a light glaze to all of the images with DG3 Art Gel from JudiKins. Sprinkle a bit of Prisma Glitter from JudiKins on the bottom of the bird and the wing. Let dry, then cut out all the images. Tweet, Tweet Adhere the wing to the large bird. Attach a pin back to the back of the bird. 3 4 Punch a 1/16” hole in each of the smaller birds and attach to earring wires. Tweet, Tweet Regal The Build a Bird Set is very versatile. Judi stamped one large regal bird with two smaller “prince-ly” birds below on white cardstock. The pearlescent colors of the Watercolor Palette add a royal shimmer with pearl white and blue with a touch of gold for the regal crown. Instead of stamping the legs, Judi drew them with a ruler and permanent pen. Time for Spring The pink and green colors of the Origami Papers make a perfect background for this springy card. We all wait for the birds to come back after a long winter and this bright and cheery birdie does just that. Congratulations You’ve just completed your Tweet, Tweet project, but the fun doesn’t stop there! Be sure to stop back by The Scrapbook Lounge every week for more exciting new twists on scrapbooking!
