The Fall Festival
By Diane Stanley, ASSE Area Representative in Evansville, Indiana
Me and my husband Nick took the
students to the Fall Festival in Evansville, Indiana.
It is the second largest street festival in the
country! We met Friday October 11 for lunch; we
walked around and ate fried tenderloin sandwich,
walking tacos, deep fried Oreo cookies, frozen
cheesecake, chili cheese fries, corn dogs,
Montecristo sandwich and many more. Jesus,
Bella, Mirari and Vicky met up with some of
their host families at the festival. The food
booths down Franklin Street are operated by
non-profit organization. Vicky’s host mom and
dad worked at the German booth and Vicky

As the month of October came to an end, ASSE International exchange students
had the chance to experience their first of many American holidays: Halloween! ASSE Area
Representative Vanessa Mendoza really showed her exchange students what it’s like to get
in the American Halloween spirit. She took her ASSE students Alejandro and Maria from
Spain for a day in the apple orchard and pumpkin patch (photos below). They enjoyed
picking apples and choosing the pumpkin they would be carving later that day. Area Rep
Vanessa (photo to the right) was all dressed up on the big day to join her student Maria and
her host sister Caroline (photos bellow) for a spooky night of trick or treating in New Jersey!

In the Fall, American families love to get together on
weekends and enjoy the outdoors by going to apple orchards, giant
corn mazes and pumpkin farms. ASSE Area Representative Carol
Karns met up with her students Mikayla from Taiwan, Vicky from
China, Rebecca from Spain, and their host families at a wonderful
pumpkin patch on Sauvie Island, Oregon. “We had so much fun! All
three exchange students had never done anything like this, so it was
great sharing a very traditional American activity! We all found
pumpkins, went through a giant corn maze and enjoyed the day!”,
shared Area Rep Carol.
