Lutherstadt Wittenberg
First time mentioned in 1183, Wittenberg was the residence of Friedrich der Weise at the end of the
15th century. His political shrewdness, the university founded in 1502 and the influence of Luther
and other reformers made Wittenberg become a centre of intellectual life in Europe for a long time.
Playing a big role in Church, Science and Culture Wittenberg is named “Lutherstadt” since 1938. The
“Bauhaus” in Dessau and the “Wörlitzer Gartenreich”, both are UNESCO world cultural heritages,
invite you to linger.
Located directly at the Elbe River, Wittenberg is reachable for cyclists as well as for cars and busses
by the B2 or the A9. Also an ICE connection Berlin-Leipzig is available. 90 km south of Berlin, 70 km
north of Leipzig and Halle/Saale and 35 km east of Dessau, Wittenberg is for groups and seminars
alike.
Youth Hostel Wittenberg
Being part of the old castle, our house was reopened after a complete renovation in 2007. Only 20
meters away from the “Martin Luther`s Theses”, where Martin Luther posted his 95 theses at the 31st
of October 1517, you will find one of the most modern youth hostels. The location right in the centre
of downtown Wittenberg and a unique atmosphere makes our hostel ideal for groups and seminars.

Supervisors stay in separate rooms close to the group and are exempt from an organizational effort
mostly.

Where can you stay even right next to Martin Luther‘s Theses? Here - in our 2007 newly opened youth
hostel. You stay in the historic town centre, in the former rooms of the residence of Friedrich der
Weise. Our house is ideal for confirmation leisure time, groups and a memorable class trip. But even
families and single travelers, we cordially welcome to our hostel in the town of Luther. Our historical
„Luther Keller“ makes our hostel unique and modern facilities are available for your conference or
event.

Luther – the film
Get the first impression of the famous reformer and his town. You
will have a great atmosphere in our “Luther Keller” where the film
will be shown.

Guided city tour with castle church
A qualified, English speaking guide leads you through the historic
downtown of Wittenberg. Castle church, Luther’s house, Market
place and the haunts of Cranach and Melanchthon are just some of
the treasures of Wittenberg.

Castle Church
On the 31st of October 1517 Martin Luther posted his famous 95 theses on the door of the Castle
Church. Because of the moving history it is part of the world heritage of UNESCO.

The new renovated house of the “Praeceptor Germaniae” contains the
mortality and study room and also a remarkable museum.

achievement have on our lives today? The Luther House in Wittenberg
has the answers.

Tour to the Bauhaus in Dessau and the Wörlitzer Garden
You will have a great tour to the three word heritages of UNESCO. You will visit the “Meisterhäuser”
of famous artists like Kandinsky and Klee and get impressions of the “Bauhaus” from Walter Gropius.
And after a lunch at the hostel Dessau you will have a stop at the “Wörlitzer Gartenreich”. The unique
flora of the first english garden will inspire you. So you will visit the „Pearls of the UNESCO“ in one day.

Arrival
By TRain and Bus
Train Station „Lutherstadt Wittenberg Altstadt“ (5 minutes walk)
• follow the „Elbstraße” for 300 m and turn left into „Schlossstraße”
• After 300 m, you can find the hostel on the left side at the „Schlossplatz“
Main station „Lutherstadt Wittenberg“ (bus or 15 minutes by walk)
• bus line number 300 or number 304 to stop „Schlossplatz“ or by walking: leave the mainstation
left with destination „Collegienstraße”
• Cross the market place to the „Schlossplatz”

By Car or Bus
Hint for the GPS system: chose „Wallstraße“, Lutherstadt Wittenberg
coming from Dessau (B187):
• follow the „Dessauer Straße“ (B187) with direction City centre
• turn right at the traffic lights behind the bridge and follow it
• turn right at the next two intersections and follow the „Hallesche Straße”
• turn left to the „Elbstraße“ and again left to the „Wallstraße“
• following the sign you will reach the parking space of our hostel
coming from Berlin (B2)
• follow the „Berliner Straße“ (B2) until the intersection near the Church
• drive ahead to the „Hallesche Straße” and then left to the „Elbstraße”
• next turn left again to the „Wallstraße”
• following the sign you will reach the parking space of our hostel
coming from Leipzig (B2)
• follow the B2 over the Elbe Bridge
• turn left to direction centre
• turn left at the second intersection and drive
over the bridge
• turn right at the next two intersections
and follow the „Hallesche Straße”
• turn left to the „Elbstraße“ and again
left to the „Wallstraße“
• following the sign you will reach the
parking space of our hostel
