B Brilliant in Bay Harbor THE BOATHOUSE WRITER | MARY ANN HUMPHREY PHOTOGRAPHER | BAY HARBOR CO. “Wow!”, “Amazing!”, “Spectacular!” are words often heard when viewing the homes built by Denny Brya of Lakeview Builders. With over 20 years of experience in Bay Harbor, he crafts homes from concept to completion, using cutting edge expertise. He generates close relationships working with each property owner, as the builder working for the developer to create timeless homes with the highest quality of service. His knowledge of the Bay Harbor facilities and architectural guidelines has contributed to his success and recognition in area residences. Located on site in Bay Harbor, Lakeview Builders is a design-build, full. service contractor which ensures every client’s expectations are met with exceptional quality and professionalism. The company specializes in creating a supportive, enjoyable building experience for their clients and delivering beautiful custom homes on time and within budget. They guide clients through each project milestone, from selecting the right home site and maximizing its value, to planning and building a home that meets their needs and vision. A prime example of Denny’s achievements is The Boathouse on Bay Harbor Lake. The sparkling glass front of this 13,000 square foot, three-story home overlooks the water, and was built with boats in mind. “You can walk from the home and be right on the lake,” Denny says. The custom interior 80 foot boatwell has a crane genery system for raising and displaying boats, and glass walls provide a viewing area from inside the home. The fixed and floating dock system with IPE decking is made for flexible boarding options, and is complemented by the custom milled cedar walls. There are a total of eight bedroom suites, with four having a private balcony overlooking the lake, and the master bedroom’s circular transom window frames spectacular views of the lake. In the living room, hand hewn hardwood ceiling beams and a wood burning fireplace with a Lake Michigan stone surround create a cozy cottage atmosphere. Horizontal V-groove paneling, which is typically installed vertically, gives the room a contemporary cottage look. The interior’s open floor plan is set off with columns and ceiling details to give the dining area its own identity, and a chef’s kitchen is among its 50 rooms. The home presented some challenges which Denny is uniquely qualified to face. Because of the amount of glass and the wind shear loading, it was built with a huge steel superstructure that supports the upper part of the house. Also, because it was placed over an old stone quarry, it was built on steel H-piling for support. 109 SUMMER 2015 Solving these types of encounters is nothing new to Denny; homeowners often praise his ingenuity. He collaborates with owners on design and implementation to devise creative solutions. “Lakeview Builders was professional and easy to work with,” one homeowner says. “We appreciated Denny’s attention to detail and his creativity. We look forward to many summers to enjoy in our beautiful new home.” Another example of his craft is Faith Cottage, a 5,085 square foot, five bedroom home overlooking Sunset Beach and Lake Michigan. “It was a great project to work on with the homeowner who is an interior designer,” Denny says. An eclectic mix of materials and designs sets this house apart. A contemporary octagonal fireplace sitting room off the master bedroom is juxtaposed with reclaimed ash beams. The kitchen’s mix of black and white with hand rubbed granite countertops give a clean look to the space. Horizontal V-groove paneling and hardwood floors create a modern cottage feel, and the seating area off the kitchen is defined by a Sydney stone wall. Another example of Denny’s expertise is The Whale’s Tail, an 8,500 square foot home which boasts panoramic views of Bay Harbor Lake and Lake Michigan. The master suite occupies the entire second floor, and there are four private suites each with its own bath. The guest suite above the garage has its own wet bar, bathroom and sitting area. In the lower level entertainment area, the custom built mahogany bar replicating a boat’s hull has under-cabinet refrigeration and a kegerator for beer. In the kitchen, hand scraped floors, white flat inset panels, five quarter cabinet doors, and black granite countertops create a clean, modern look. A chef’s kitchen provides space for seamless entertaining. Many homeowners in the Bay Harbor area have used Lakeview Builders more than once. “Denny is a perfectionist and extremely detail oriented. He built us a home far beyond our greatest expectations. In fact, we were so pleased we decided to build another home with Lakeview,” one homeowner attests. Denny has been with the Bay Harbor Company since its inception, and in his tenure there, he has managed all aspects of construction. Design and land development, engineering infrastructure, marine and environmental construction, residential and commercial projects are some of the areas he is well Continued on page 115 TOP: The dining area is defined by columns and ceiling details.
