It’s time to throw open the windows and doors and the let the outdoors in.
Everything seems new with fresh air and light streaming in—so pull up those
blinds and pull back the drapes. You can make your home an inviting
gathering spot, family refuge, a personal exclamation with small changes.
It’s spring and it’s time to freshen up, organize, and add art.

With small changes, your home can transform into a relaxing refuge just by
adding the things that mean something to you for its beauty, functionality,
or personal sentiment. For example, with a beautiful sturdy, coiled rope
basket, those unsightly piles of magazines can disappear “artfully”. In a
smaller rope basket, you can have a beautiful centerpiece filled with spring
flowers to deliver the scent of spring right to the middle of your kitchen
table—and have the option to change it with each new season.
We know you are extra busy this time of year, with window washing, decluttering, and other home projects, but remember to keep a creative eye
open for ways to organize better and add special works of art for a simpler,

Who’s Who – Going New Lengths
Meet Gary Campbell – an American cowboy and clever artist who has more
hours in a saddle than miles on his car. With 40 years as a professional
horse trainer under his cowboy belt, he pursued another talent that makes
him as happy as roping a wild horse—creating stunning baskets from those
same, hard working ropes he used in his career. For nearly ten years, Gary
has been collecting ropes from ranchers, cowboys, and cowgirls to make his
artful baskets. These sturdy baskets take the top ribbon prize in
functionality and aesthetic categories.

Coiled rope bowls and baskets take
recycling to new lengths! Can these
beautiful baskets really be created from
repurposed cowboy lariats and the
hardworking hands of an American
cowboy? Yes! Each rope previously
lived its life as one of the hardest
working tools of a cowboy, ranch hand
or rodeo rider before it outlived its life.
Gary Campbell’s functional works of art embody the work of a
horseman, who spent a lifetime handling a rope and training horses.
For nearly a decade now, however, he spends hours corralling these
ropes for specialty baskets. Gary’s baskets are as artful, hardworking,
and colorful as their cowboy roots. Collectors enjoy forms and styles
that are usually relegated to clay but spring forth with life from
beautifully worn lariats, dyed with a splash of color, and coiled for a
work of art.
How does this humble material turn into a sophisticated basket? Gary
starts with worn nylon lariats that he collects. After cleaning
thoroughly, they are laid out to be sorted by length and color. For
enhanced color options, some ropes are dyed red, wine, brown, and
natural. Since he has made hundreds of baskets over the years, he is
always developing new designs for unique shapes, color patterns and
sporting unexpected embellishments. Every basket or bowl takes on
the life and character of the rope it is made of—no two are ever alike
and make a perfect addition in any décor as a focal point or grouping.
These sturdy baskets are great functional containers too. To clean:
we recommend using a vacuum with a small soft brush.

various competitions.

Kenneth Shanika rarely slows down. His high school art students just wrapped
Hyatt Moore from California
up an annual exhibit in Woodland Park showing more than 20 paintings.
Preparing for an artist’s life, he helped his students enter another upcoming
Teller County Student Art Show. With teaching adult students (workshop) for
the Montrose Artists' Guild, he has little time to spare, as he prepares to meet
a June 1 deadline for the American Plains Artists Show.
