What’s Inside
Located on the shores of picturesque Hubbard

Our mission is to connect campers with
nature in a friendly and caring environment so
that they may gain a greater respect for nature
as well as our role in protecting it.

“ We loved the enthusiasm of the
counselors and the pleasure of relaxed
camaraderie with new and old friends
at camp. We also loved our children’s
joy in all the activities.”
Wildwood is licensed annually by the State of New Hampshire and
accredited by the American Camp Association.

Activities
Wildwood is all about choice and exploration! Our daily schedule is
built around time blocks featuring activities that campers often pick
themselves.
Pre-Breakfast Jaunt (PBJ)
Is your camper an early riser? PBJs give campers the opportunity to
embrace the morning with activities like birding, paddling, and the
always-popular Polar Bear Swim!
Interest Groups (IGs)
Interest Groups let your camper dive into a topic for four days.
Campers get to choose from topics like wetland exploration, “Things
With Wings,” archery, and sailing.
Discovery Groups (DGs)
Each day, campers choose two Discovery Groups. DGs give campers
the opportunity to explore topics like edible plants, improv, arts and
crafts, high ropes, paddling, and much more.

up with friends.
Unit Time
Evening Program
Campers and counselors can take time each
day to check in, reapply sunscreen, and enjoy
a new activity as a unit group.
After dinner, campers participate in games that involve the entire
camp. We start each session with a campfire, followed by activities like
Predator Prey and Heffalump Hunt.
Campers return to their bunks during Siesta
to have some down time and write a letter
home, read, or take a quick nap.
To end the day, campers and counselors
gather inside the tent for a reflective Cabin
Chat by candlelight.
“ I like this camp because
everyone feels like
your friend.”

O
ur Teen Adventure Trips immerse
teens in the natural wonders of New
England’s most beautiful areas and provide fun,
appropriate challenges for teens with all levels
of outdoor experience.
After a day of group building and orientation at
Wildwood, campers and trip leaders head into
the New England wilderness. Along the way,
they meet with environmental professionals
and naturalists to learn firsthand about natural
Acadia Adventure Trek ➣ July 3–9
science and conservation. Most groups also
complete a brief service project, allowing teens
to leave a positive mark on the special places
they visit.
Breathe in the excitement of Maine’s Acadia National Park and enjoy
spectacular coastal views. We'll hike along the granite slopes of
Cadillac Mountain and bike along the park’s carriage roads. Watch for
whales, seals, eagles, and other wildlife while kayaking along the coves
and rocky shores. Spend the afternoon with your friends at one of the
park’s scenic beaches, and share stories of your adventures around a
cozy campfire.
Groups are coed, consisting of two leaders
and up to eight teens. Participants practice
hands-on skills in outdoor adventure
and develop knowledge of the region’s
natural history.
Bike and Beach Trek ➣ July 10–16
Explore some of New England’s premier coastal destinations on this trip
to Cape Cod and Nantucket. We’ll kayak in Barnstable Bay, bike along
the beaches and dunes of the outer Cape, and meet biologists who study
wildlife such as turtles, bats, and plants unique to the region. We’ll
also travel to Nantucket Island to discover its marshes, beaches, and
woodlands. This coastal experience concludes with a bike ride through
the heart of the island and a relaxing afternoon at the beach.
Footloose in the White Mountains ➣ July 17–23
Have the time of your life on this hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing
adventure in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. We’ll enjoy short
hikes and spend a couple of days with professional rock-climbing guides.
Then, we’ll travel into the heart of the backcountry for an unforgettable
overnight—keep an eye out for moose, beavers, and loons in this
wonderful wilderness!
“Counselors are excellent role models and highly
qualified to lead the treks. They have a perfect
balance of commanding respect while maintaining
a fun-loving atmosphere.”
Discovering the Great North Woods
➣ July 24–August 6
This exciting, two-week trek ventures to the Great North Woods of
New Hampshire, where we’ll discover the region’s unique natural history.
We’ll spend the first half of the trip exploring the Connecticut Lakes,
which are home to loons, moose, bears, and beavers. We will then
paddle south from Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge through the
area’s pristine bodies of water, where eagles and osprey soar overhead.
This paddling and hiking adventure will immerse us in natural and cultural
history. *Previous trek experience preferred. For campers entering
grades 10–12
Exploring the Champlain Valley ➣ August 7–13
Camp and hike through the pristine beauty of this magnificent area and
explore the shores of New England’s largest body of freshwater, Lake
Champlain. Witness breathtaking views from high atop Vermont’s Green
Mountains and discover woodlands, wetlands, and a landscape shaped by
glaciers thousands of years ago. We'll spend a couple of exciting days on
Lake Champlain, exploring its unique freshwater ecology while paddling and
camping along local islands. A refreshing dip at the end of a hot day and
evenings around the campfire promise cool times on this tremendous trek.
Backpacking the Wild Whites ➣ August 14–20
Take a breath of fresh mountain air as we explore the nature and
landscape of New Hampshire’s remote Wild River Wilderness. This
backpacking adventure will bring us great views along beautiful ridgelines
and incredible valleys, often untouched. Keep an eye out for wildlife and
views of the Presidential Range as we traverse this hidden land. Teens
should expect to travel backcountry terrain carrying up to 60 lbs. in a
framed backpack. A backpack can be provided with prior arrangements.
Caves and Waterfalls in the Pioneer Valley
➣ August 21–27
Discover boulder caves and waterfalls hidden throughout Massachusetts’
Pioneer Valley. This trek delves into the fascinating natural history of the
area, with a focus on geology and cave wildlife ecology. We'll explore
natural caves and waterfalls while learning about how these features
formed and how they support the local ecology. There will be plenty of
hiking and spelunking, not to mention a dip in a waterfall pool!

Wildwood Leaders-In-Training (LITs) develop leadership skills through
hands-on experience with environmental education, conservation, and
advocacy. Each session begins with goal setting, ensuring that teens can
focus on their personal leadership objectives throughout the program.
Staff LIT facilitators support participants as they come together not just
as individual leaders, but as a group of leaders.
First-Year LITs
Second-Year LITs
First-year LITs participate in team-building activities,
develop an environmental research project, and assist in
camp leadership. Each session includes a multi-day, offsite community service project, such as trail maintenance
or volunteering in a community garden, that that provides
participants with an opportunity to serve and connect
with communities beyond Wildwood.
Second-year LITs (Leaders-In-Action) dive deeper into
leadership with hands-on environmental conservation
projects. Past projects have included developing an
outdoor education area and performing an inventory of
species at Wildwood. A three-week session gives teens
an extended period of time to make a difference at
Wildwood and in the greater Monadnock community,
further refining their leadership abilities. Second-year
LITs finish each session with skills they can build on for
years to come—at home, at school, and within their
communities.
For teens entering grade 10
SESSION A ➣ JULY 3–16
SESSION B ➣ JULY 17–30
“The staff was excellent, there were great
activities, we loved being outside in nature…
the whole thing was awesome.”
For All Ages
For teens entering grade 11
Family Camp is fun for campers of all ages—
from toddlers to grandparents! Wildwood has
just what your family needs to enjoy some quality
time together in a safe, quiet, and beautiful
natural setting.
SECOND-YEAR LIT SESSION
➣ AUGUST 7–27
SESSION 1 ➣ JUNE 25–28
SESSION 2 ➣ JUNE 28–JULY 1
SESSION 3 ➣ AUGUST 28–31
Bring the whole family to explore nature,
reconnect with one another, and meet other
outdoor-loving families. Each family group lives in
their own rustic cabin, yurt, or platform tent.
A variety of fun, age-appropriate activities are
always available, including swimming, kayaking,
nature crafts, hiking, high-ropes challenges,
birding, and campfire songs. There are also plenty
of opportunities to relax on the waterfront.
Family Camp is a great way for parents to
introduce future overnight campers to all the fun
and excitement Wildwood has to offer.

Summer Staff
Our summer camp staff includes educators,
naturalists, and college students from the US
and around the world—all dedicated adults
who work to foster a sense of community and
make sure your camper has an extraordinary
camp experience.
Camper safety is our highest priority at
Wildwood. All camp staff carry current CPR
and First Aid certifications as well as activityspecific certifications. We have around-theclock, licensed health care staff on-site along
with access to an on-call pediatric practice at
nearby Monadnock Community Hospital.
We select staff members who have experience
working with children and a strong desire to
share their knowledge. The application process
includes thorough background and reference
checks.
Leadership Team
Wildwood's leadership team works yearround to develop summer camp programming.
To ensure that everything at Wildwood is
of top quality, we also participate in ongoing
professional development provided by
organizations such as the American Camp
Association (ACA). We are always available to
talk with parents and campers to help them
prepare for a successful camp experience.
Before camp begins, all staff participate in
an intensive two-week training program that
covers child development and supervision,
health and safety procedures, and
environmental education.

About Mass Audubon
Mass Audubon works to protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and
wildlife. Together with more than 100,000 members, we care for 35,000 acres
of conservation land, provide school, camp, and other educational programs
for 225,000 children and adults annually, and advocate for sound environmental
policies at local, state, and federal levels. Founded in 1896 by two inspirational
women who were committed to the protection of birds, Mass Audubon is now
one of the largest and most prominent conservation organizations in New
England. Today we are respected for our sound science, successful advocacy, and
innovative approaches to connecting people and nature. Each year, our statewide
network of wildlife sanctuaries welcomes nearly half a million visitors of all ages,
abilities, and backgrounds and serves as the base for our work. To support these
important efforts, call 800-AUDUBON (800-283-8266) or visit massaudubon.org.
