T-shirts for the World Championship Duck Gumbo Cookoff are also available. New this year are Festival memorabilia, including coffee mugs, shot glasses and Koozies. “We have a wide selection of shirts, including long-sleeve and short-sleeve shirts,” said Bethany Hodges of the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce. The Festival Store accepts VISA and MasterCard. The store is located in the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce office at 507 S. Main in downtown Stuttgart. FESTIVAL SHIRTS — T-shirts are on sale at the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce for the 77th annual World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest and Wings Over the Prairie Festival. Candidates speak to voters at forum n Voters in Stuttgart had a chance to hear from local candidates at a “Meet the Candidates” event held October 18 at the Grand Prairie Center. Candidates for national, state and local offices were invited to attend. The “Meet the Candidates” event was sponsored by the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce, the Stuttgart Daily Leader, radio station Country 97.3 FM and Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas. Among the candidates participating were: • Arkansas Senate candidates Tiffany Rogers and Jonathan Dismang. • Arkansas House candidates David Hillman and Garland Derden, Jr. • Arkansas County Sheriff candidates Allen Cheek and Mark Duke. • Stuttgart City Council candidates Joe Alexander Jr., Theodore Holt, Wade Hobbs and Johnnie Warren. • Arkansas County Justice of the Peace candidates Mary Ashley Iverson and Kim Solars. • U.S. Congress candidate Scott Ellington. CANDIDATE FORUM — City Alderman Wade Hobbs speaks at the “Meet the Candidate” forum held at the Grand Prairie Center. HOUSE RACE — Garland Derden Jr. and David Hillman were candidates for the Arkansas House of Representatives. SHERIFF RACE — Arkansas County Sheriff Allen Cheek and his wife, Stacy, participated in the “Meet the Candidates” event held at the Grand Prairie Center. SENATE RACE — Sen. Jonathan Dismang of Searcy and his wife, Mandy, attended the “Meet the Candidate” event in Stuttgart. CONGRESSIONAL CANDIDATE — Scott Ellington of Jonesboro, a candidate for the United States Congress, participated in the “Meet the Candidates” event and visited with some of his supporters. Cater Rita’s hosts Business After Hours with holiday menus n Cater Rita’s hosted its annual Business After Hours in October to showcase its holiday menu items. The event was held in the Mallard Room at Arkansas County Bank. Those attending the Business After Hours got to sample Cater Rita’s holiday menu items for 2012. They also got to sample new Crock-Pot meals prepared by Chef Rita Sides. “This Business After Hours has become a tradition for the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce,” said Stephen Bell. “When Thanksgiving, Christmas and the holiday seasons arrive, our Chamber members begin to look forward to this evening.” Not only did Chamber members get a chance to network, but students from Amanda Holsted’s Communications Class at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas got a chance to visit with local business people. “This is a great way for the students to practice the communication skills they’ve learned in class and enjoy some great food,” said Holsted. Business After Hours is hosted by a local business and sponsored by the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce as a way for business people to network in an informal setting. Local Economy City sales tax revenues COLLEGE STUDENTS — Students from Amanda Holsted’s Communications Class at PCC-UA attended the Business After Hours in October. 2012 CAMPAIGN — U.S. Congressman Rick Crawford stopped in Stuttgart and spoke to supporters at a rally held at the Stuttgart Stage on Main Street.
