Box 1500 Stuttgart, AR 72160 (870) 673-1602 BETHANY HODGES Director of Programs [email protected] Luncheon held to honor teachers The annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Stuttgart and the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce, will be held Thursday, August 14. The luncheon will begin at 11:30 a.m. in Salon A and B at the Grand Prairie Center. “The theme of this year’s luncheon is ‘Are You Smarter Than a Teacher?,’ and tickets are $12 each,” said Kelly Houghton, chairman of the event. “When you buy your ticket, another ticket is given to a teacher for their lunch.” Houghton said that this annual appreciation luncheon is to thank all of the teachers in Stuttgart, both private and public schools, and get them off to a great start for the school year. All certified teachers from public and private schools are invited to attend. Items are donated by busi- nesses for goody bags and door prizes for the teachers. The luncheon is open to the public and tickets may be purchased by calling (870) 6731602. Gunter family gets Yard of the Month Carl and Nellie Gunter received the Yard-of-the-Month for August from the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce and the Master Gardeners. Their home is located at 1202 Long Street. The Master Gardener program, sponsored by the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, selects the Yard-of-the-Month recipients. The Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce presents the award to encourage local residents to work in their yards to enhance the beauty of the city. Call 673-1602 to nominate a home. YARD OF THE MONTH –Carl and Nellie Gunter received the Yard of the Month from the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce and the Master Gardeners. Bethany Hodges of the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce presented the award. YARD OF THE MONTH –Carl and Nellie Gunter’s home at 1202 Long Street. OPEN HOUSE - Mayor Marianne Maynard and the City of Stuttgart held an Open House for the new $2.5 million renovations to the south Stuttgart Water Treatment Plant. Local Economy City sales tax revenues QUEEN MALLARD — Hannah Oliver attended the 2014 Arkansas Rice Expo and displays t-shirts available through the Arkansas Rice Council. FARMERS MARKET — Work on the Farmers Market Pavilion downtown has been progressing as workers from Moser Construction continue working. The project is expected to be complete by the end of the month.
