FARMERS MARKET – A ground-breaking ceremony was held for a Farmers Market Pavilion
to be built downtown next to the Stuttgart Chamber of Commerce. The new pavilion should be
completed in a couple of months.
Work begins on Farmers Market Pavilion
n A ground-breaking ceremony was held for a new Farmers Market Pavilion to be built
downtown next to the Stuttgart
Chamber of Commerce.
The goal is to make the new
pavilion home to a regional
farmers’ market that will include surrounding counties.
Stephen Bell said the current
plan is for the new regional
farmers’ market to be open on
days and times that don’t conflict with the Arkansas County
Farmers’ Market.
Funding for the pavilion
came from several sources.
The Stuttgart Chamber of
Commerce donated the land,
while Stuttgart Unlimited provided funds to hire an architect
and engineer.
Mayor Marianne Maynard
and Carl Humphrey with the
Stuttgart Industrial Development Corp. helped get a
$120,000 grant approved
through the Southeast Arkansas Economic Development
District in Pine Bluff.
“And, of course Sen. Jonathan Dismang, along with Rep.
David Hillman, were instrumental in getting the grant
funded. They made it all possible,” Bell said.
Fun ‘N Fishin’ this Saturday at Riceland pond
n The annual Fun N’ Fishin
will be held at 7 a.m. this Saturday, June 14, at the Riceland
Foods pond.
The Arkansas Game & Fish
Commission will stock the
pond with 700 pounds of catfish.
The free fishing day for children is an event sponsored
by the Stuttgart Chamber of
Commerce, Riceland Foods,
Walmart, Arkansas County
Bank, Stedman’s Ace Hardware and Delta Plastics of the
South.
Fun N’ Fishin’ is open to
children 12 years old and
younger. Each child must be
accompanied by an adult sponsor 18 years or older. There is a
10-fish limit, and only one pole
per participant is allowed.
Registration and signing of
consent forms will begin at 7
a.m. that morning. Fishing
will end at 10 a.m. No one over
12 years old will be allowed to
fish. Adult supervision is required.
There is no cost for fishing
at Fun N’ Fishin. For more information, call at 673-1602.
