Position: Corporate Communications Internship
Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network
Status: Internship
Reports to: VP & Executive Director of Television Programming &

Internship Description
Availability: Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer semesters
Hours: 8-20 hours per week
Internship Summary: Assist with corporate communications, public relations and marketing duties for a variety of
internal and external media projects.
Internship Responsibilities





Collect news clips and assist in media monitoring
Update and maintain media mailing lists, databases and contact information
Assist in the creation of press materials for local and national media
Assist in the copywriting and editing of corporate communications materials including publications,
advertisements and web pages
Support administrative duties as needed (faxing, filing, copying, collating, mailing)
Internship Skills/Qualifications
Candidates must have an interest in broadcasting or communications. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented
and have academic experience in public relations, marketing, journalism or advertising. Additional qualifications
include:









Strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Excel, Outlook, and Word
Superior attention to detail
Strong organizational skills
Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills
Strong interpersonal and/or telephone skills

Position: CPTV Sports Production Assistant Internship
Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network

Internship Description
Availability: One position each for fall, winter/spring and summer semesters.
Hours: A minimum of 16 hours/week
Internship Summary: CPTV Sports Production Assistant Intern will work with the CPTV Sports production team to
assist with various local sports-related programming projects and documentaries, in all aspects of program
production from storyline to on-air presentation.
An interest in local Connecticut sports is preferred, but not necessary.
Internship Responsibilities








Assist in writing scripts
Research story ideas
Support producers with their editing sessions, gathering videotapes and voice tracks
Log videotapes as needed
Assist with communications and calling to set up production locations
Assist in requesting permissions from schools and sports venues
Assist with scheduling crews when coordinating producer needs assistant
Perform other duties as assigned to help facilitate all aspects of production process

Position: Education Content Internship Connecticut
Public Broadcasting Network
Status: Internship
Reports to: Senior Vice President of Education, CPBN
Internship Description
Availability: Fall, winter/spring and summer semesters.
Hours: 8 - 20 hrs/week
Internship Summary: The Education Content intern will assist the Education Department by maintaining all
content assets including online social media and blogs, press releases, internal documents, and outreach
programs. The Education Content intern will work closely with CPBN Education staff, IAM students and
instructors, as well as Journalism and Media Academy students, faculty, and administration to maintain up-todate projects to support educational partnerships.
Internship Responsibilities
 Collect information regarding CPBN Education initiatives from employees, students, families, and other
involved parties.
 Assist in the creation of press materials pertaining to CPBN Education initiatives.
 Assist in the production of educational materials such as promotional videos, flyers, handouts, etc.
 Assist in the copywriting and editing of educational content materials including publications,
advertisements, blogs, social media interactions, and web pages.
 Assist in both in-house and on-site event preparation and setup.
 Assist Education team with community and in-house events like Kids Fair, Forums, etc.
 Support administrative duties as needed (faxing, filing, copying, collating, mailing).
Internship Skills/Qualifications
Candidates must have an interest in communications, education, or community outreach. The ideal candidate will
be detail-oriented and have academic experience in communications, writing, outreach, or education. Additional

Position: Media Lab Internship
Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network
Status: Internship
Reports to: Director of Education, CPBN
Internship Description
Availability: Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer semesters
Hours: 15-20 hours per week
Internship Summary: Media Lab interns will have a hands-on immersive educational experience creating original
content to support CPBN initiatives. Interns will learn and perform all the media creation production tasks, from
pre-production planning and production through post-production editing and posting. Students will receive
hands-on instruction from public media professionals and will create exciting projects to engage audiences on
multiple platforms.
Internship Responsibilities










Research story ideas
Conduct phone and on-camera interviews
Schedule logistics for personnel, space, time, equipment, etc.
Write, edit, and post articles for online publication
Write and edit scripts
Perform pre-production tasks (equipment set-up, space preparation, etc)
Perform production tasks (video camera operation, sound acquisition, lighting placement, sound checks,
etc.)
Perform post-production tasks (video, sound, and image editing, writing and editing, posting videos and
articles to online outlets, etc.)
Assist with social media posts for the Media Lab (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flickr, etc.)

INTERNSHIP
Position: SWAG Squad Sports Engagement & Marketing Internship

Internship Description
Availability: Four positions for the Fall, Winter/Spring, and Summer semesters
Hours: 15-20 hours per week
Internship Summary: The prospective candidate will be a part of a group of four interns that will form a new
sports engagement team called the “SWAG Squad.” This program offers an immersive, hands-on experience that
will give interns the ability to have a direct impact on CPTV Sports engagement and LIVE events. Interns will
participate in all engagement & promotional initiatives for CPTV Sports. Above all, interns will learn to be brand
ambassadors for CPTV Sports.
Internship Responsibilities
• Attend and contribute to bi-weekly CPTV Sports SWAG Squad meetings with the Sports producer,
Audience Care & Engagement team and marketing team.
• Attend CPTV Sports tapings of games to promote the network.
• Collect data from attendees for engagement list generation, being able to clearly communicate the
why/what we’ll be doing with the information.
• Cultivate ideas for LIVE event participation from attendees.
• Develop outreach and engagement strategies.
• Light office work for support of ACE team engagement initiatives.

Position: WNPR News Production Intern

Hours: 8-24 hours per week. Interns are preferably available to work a full day (8-4PM).
Internship Summary: WNPR News Production intern will assist WNPR producers in the development of WNPR
shows. Where We Live and The Colin McEnroe Show are daily news programs produced by WNPR/Connecticut
Public Radio. These shows are interactive, combining interviews, listener calls, emails and social media. Topics
include news issues, trends and the arts.
WNPR will provide training in website production, audio production, radio continuity and remote recording.
Intern will observe and take part in live broadcasts. As the internship progresses, training in news production,
feature writing and show production is also possible.

Position: WNPR Web News Production Intern

Hours: 8-24 hours per week – Preferably available to work full day (8-4PM)
Internship Summary: WNPR News offers extensive local and national news coverage for the citizens of
Connecticut as the radio service of the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network. It serves Connecticut; Rhode
Island; Long Island, New York; and parts of Massachusetts, with news, talk, information, and entertainment
programming. The station produces three daily award-winning flagship programs, Where We Live, The Faith
Middleton Show, and The Colin McEnroe Show.
WNPR will provide training in website editing and production, including audio production, photography,
writing/editing, and publishing. Intern may have the opportunity to do some original reporting, photography, and
other assignments. Daily coordination and discussion with news staff and talk show production staff.
Internship Responsibilities






Assist with publishing daily news stories to the website WNPR.org
Assist with publishing website content related to local talk programming
Research news sites and the AP wire for incoming stories
Locate, edit and publish photography to the website WNPR.org
Assist with follow-up on occasional news assignments, including writing, recording, photography
