We are so happy you’re interested in being a
volunteer intern for the Yamnuska Wolfdog
Sanctuary in Alberta.
If we could shout it from the roof tops, we would: as Canadians, we are responsible for preserving wild wolves in
their natural environment, as well as promoting responsible wolfdog ownership.
Recognizing this, we’ve made the education and advocacy
of these subjects our priority. And in a proactive step to
support this priority, we provide the rescue and safe sanctuary to wolfdogs that have been neglected, abandoned, or
otherwise displaced.
In order to do this, we rely on the interest and passion people like you have. We look for select individuals throughout
the year to join our team here at the sanctuary. Interns
play a key role in our organization and are immersed in all
facets of wolfdog care and visitor activities.
In the following pages of this package, you’ll gain an understanding of what our internship includes.

Wild at Heart
What to Expect
Internships are offered quarterly throughout the year, and are a volunteer opportunity with
no stipend. Each internship lasts a minimum of 3 months with a minimum commitment of 2
days per week. In that time frame we train you to become an integral part of our team.
Daily Wolfdog Care
You will be responsible for feeding, grooming,
socializing, and training resident and adoptable
wolfdogs. And let’s not forget leading pack howls and
issuing the all-important ear scratches.
Sanctuary Maintenance
From cleaning the wolfdog enclosures, to performing
basic repairs, to organizing enrichment stations, to
keeping all spaces tidy; sanctuary maintenance is a big
part of our daily routine.
Gift Shop Management and Administrative Duties
You will be trained in our gift shop for sales and
inventory management. You will also be required to
perform certain duties, including answering emails,
phone calls, and performing basic website updates.
Visitor Education
One of our main goals is educating people about
wolfdogs and wolves. As part of our team, you will be
expected to learn as much as you can about wolfdogs
and wolves, and be able to educate the visitors to the
sanctuary. This includes participating in daily tours
provided to our visitors.
Outreach Work
As a part of our team, you’ll be heavily involved in our
outreach programs. This includes a number of different
activities, like creating marketing material, carrying
out funraising activities, and public speaking at special
events.
Qualifications & Requirements
To be considered for our internship, there are certain skills you should have a demonstrated
experience and interest in.
Please note that the age requirement for this volunteer internship is 18 and over.
º Comfortable speaking to large groups of people
º Self motivated and takes initiative
º Extensive knowledge of dog behaviour and training
º Manage workload with minimal supervision
º Interested in animal welfare
º Most work is outdoors, so being comfortable in all weather
conditions is necessary.
º Genuine interest in wolfdogs and learning wolfdog behaviour
º Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Wordpress an asset.
º Must be able to lift at least 50lbs; ability to aid in fencing
projects and all aspects of site maintenance.
